That MLB.TV preview, is that only 3 innings or something or is it the whole game?

I believe it's the whole game. Can't wait to see the new technology, as a subscriber for the past two years it has been frustrating at times. Any folks remember when the servers crashed for Santana's first start (edit: First start as a Met 2008)?

Clearly, Delgado is on the upswing: He started last year poorly, caught fire in the second half and improved on that this spring. I expect him to finish the year batting .600!

Castillo batting 9th, I love it.

Makes so much sense. Jerry really needs to consider batting him there throughout the season.

Castillo in the 8 hole is a recipe for disaster, he won't get pitches worth even slapping at. In the 9 hole he'll have protection batting in front of Reyes. Pitchers would actually have to pitch to him to avoid getting to Reyes.

He essentially becomes the second lead off man the second time around the order. His OBP wouldn't go to waste. Reyes/Murph and Wright would still get the most AB's. Plus between Castillo, Reyes, and Murph you can expect that one of them (on average) should reach base each time around. Which means David & Co would have a lot more RBI opportunities.

It's fine with a DH but in the regular season NL play you are giving the pitcher more at-bats than Castillo and that is just silly

    Apr 03, 2009, 9:56 pm at 9:56 pm #

How many more AB's would that really amount to over the course of the season? 20? 30?

I think the increase in production you'd see from Luis in the 9th spot would more than make up for the lost AB's. The Cardinals have been doing this for a couple seasons now, to give more RBI opportunities to Pujols while maximizing his AB's in the 3 hole. And that seem to be working out alright for them.

So am I. I'm not that crazy about Sheffield anyway and as far as I'm concerned, Jerry makes the big bucks so he can live with his decision, but he WOULD NOT be an everyday player on my team. He would ride the pine and come in, in the late innings, if at all.

    • Brian
      Apr 03, 2009, 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #

I have no trouble taking the chance with his potential benefit that he gets hurt? it's $400k. I know marlon's salary hurts them but frankly, I would have been happy if they cut marlon and let evans stay. marlon was just a waste of a spot imo.

if sheff gets hurt, bring up evans. is that really that bad?

I don't agree. He looked good in spring. He's got 2 hits tonight and a stolen base. So far, he looks as good as he did last year.

Hey, does anyone know what Fred Wilpon meant when he said they were going to "immortalize" Shea in the parking lot?

It may be the fact that they are going to have all the bases and homeplate marked in the parking lot in their original spots.

As much as I'd love to see happen, I'd say that was a real stretch. Not when you have the likes of Pujols, Howard, Wright, etc. in the league.
MVP maybe would have been possible but he had like one bat too many last year to qualify for that this year.

Anybody else using a blackberry and having issues with getting to the comment section? I mean, where you would normally click to go to the comments has a slew of numbers and jumbled words relayed to the topic instead of the simple “#comments.” Also, I’ve noticed that everyone’s posts are dated and timed in th future. Most of the recent replies are dated at 10:30 or so???

Not sure what it looks like weather wise in Flushing, but here on the Jersey Shore, we had that heavy downpour about 90 minutes ago but it let up after about 20 minutes. Maybe the same will happen there.

Sometimes when I click on "comments" what unfolds is the old WordPress comment section, which as Joe noted above shows "April 4" and a time about 2 hours late. Other times, like now, I get the new IntenseDebate comment section. Weird.

the new layout is hard to look at, when u make it so everything you really need to look at is on the left side it makes it so itrs like a sight, with tons of adverstisements taking up the other half, hard to look at and the two bars of links put next to eachother looks unprofessional, nice job cerrone, NOT

Matt: There has to be some way to tweak your setting on this new format so when you click refresh it doesn't take you back to the beginning of the thread. Really a pain….

the stadium is weird. Why are the outfield walls BLACK? There is no flow to it. Just a lot of weird outcroppings and unsettling angles and incongruity. And the advertisement behind the plate SUCK! they are so distracting and annoying and ugly. and you have to see them evey at bat. proof that this game is just all about money these days. pathetic.

The crowd was so electric and it wasn't even a regular season game, there was certainly a different feel with Putz and K-Rod closing the game out.

The walls should be Mets blue, no doubt. But for the guy to kavetch about the ads behind home??? Every team has that, as we used to at Shea! And, overall, if the biggest complaints are wall colors and the existence of advertising (gasp!) at our new state of the art stadium, we are ahead of the game.

How about the beautiful field itself? How about the huge increase in variety and quality of food choices? How about the far better sightlines and being closer to the action when in the stands? How about the large increase in bathrooms per capita, with fixtures that actually work? How about the well-thought out gathering places like the center field area with all the great food vendors, or the area with all the picnic benches behind home on the Promenade, or the Pepsi Porch? How about the ability to walk all the way around the stadium without missing a pitch? How about increased seat widths and legroom? How about happier players and staff with a state of the art clubhouse and office/workout facilities? How about the worst seat in the house being about the level of the best seats in the UD Boxes at Shea??
