MetsFan4Decades April 11, 2009 at 5:10 pm

Tried to reply to you on last post on this but as usual, my reply went into never, never land. I hate that this new format is still not working….
I forgot to tune in – I'll catch it on a replay though, to be sure…..

fxcarden April 11, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Sorry I was watching Julie Alexandria (drools).

Bucknersankles April 11, 2009 at 4:44 pm

OUTSTANDING,
and rightfully so, the greatest Mets pitcher to the greatest Mets catcher (offensively).

lagranderusty10 April 11, 2009 at 4:47 pm

i was hoping for craig swan to alex tervinio

Bucknersankles April 11, 2009 at 5:12 pm

How about Duffy Dyer, Jim Beachamp was also one of our backups, I saw him hit two HRs on his birthday one night (forgot which game) .

Matt April 11, 2009 at 6:50 pm

Beachamp died last year

Bucknersankles April 11, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Yes Matt you're right he'd been with the Braves' organization for quite sometime, unfortunately I don't recall any mention of him by our organization when he did pass.
Perhaps they did mention and I simply didn't catch it.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:41 pm

I will take Gary Carter over Piazza any day.

Bucknersankles April 11, 2009 at 5:57 pm

Jay,
You're right a case could be made for Gary, there was a time when he was the premire catcher in baseball.

sellitman April 11, 2009 at 4:48 pm

I'd rather see Seaver pitch to Grote. IMHO.

Stop showcasing steroid junkies.

lagranderusty10 April 11, 2009 at 4:48 pm

grote i believe has severed ties for the organization

sellitman April 11, 2009 at 5:04 pm

Well I for one would like the organization to sever ties with known steroid junkies. Piazza should not be the face of the franchise on opening day.

Bucknersankles April 11, 2009 at 5:08 pm

That would have been even nicer, Grote, if not for Johnny Bench would have garnered gold gloves year after year, when gold gloves were actually given to the best of the best defensively.

Richie Ashburn April 11, 2009 at 5:19 pm

Well, you better stop watching since they just signed one. And where's you proof bout Piazza. From some sick washed up, unemployed writer who has a pimple fetish?

lagranderusty10 April 11, 2009 at 4:48 pm

ok guys its time for the im very ticked off at the umpires last nite – a.m edition of "this day in mets infamy with rusty" so hey! ho ! !ets go !

first off happy – b-day to a guy who shouldve been a true ace on our staff when we traded for him Bret "mr clorox" Saberhagen (1964)
Wally "gotta love the name wally" Whitehurst (1964)
Bobby "not sure which one lol "Jones (1972)
Trot "i am not a met" Nixon (1974)
Transactions:
New York Mets signed free agent Brett Butler on April 11 – good signing – if it were 1983 – played decently for us – then we traded him to the dodgers so he could end his career there and soon after retired

Kevin April 11, 2009 at 4:48 pm

WOW… been there, done that!

JAY_SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 4:56 pm

OH NO NOT PIAZZA.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 4:58 pm

?

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 4:57 pm

Thats cool.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:01 pm

IT IS GOING TO BE REAL SAD WHEN THE DIRT COMES OUT ON PIAZZA. I AM STILL ANGRY THAT HE WAS ONE OF THE LAST TWO PEOPLE TO BE INTRODUCED IN THE LAST GAME AT SHEA.IT SHOULD OF BEEN SEAVER AND NAMATH.THAT WOULD OF BROUGHT DOWN THE HOUSE BUT THE METS AS USUAL COULDN'T GET IT RIGHT.

sellitman April 11, 2009 at 5:06 pm

Jay, I agree with you. Piazza should not be revered as a hero anymore.

(Loose the caps though please)

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:30 pm

Yeah i wish more people would see that.I will never forget game 2 of the 2000 world series when piaza look like he was afraid of clemens.

dak442 April 12, 2009 at 2:17 am

Piazza did the right thing keeping his cool and not getting thrown out of the game. The ump should have had a pair and tossed Clemens.

Piazza is the greatest position player we've ever had, and it's not his fault we didn't win a WS on his watch. There has been nothing but rumor and innuendo on the PED front. I give him every benefit of the doubt.

Having Namath there only would have been funny if he hit the open bar during the game and slobbered all over Julie McDonald.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:07 pm

HOW MANY CHAMPIONSHIPS DID PIAZZA BRING TO THE METS.HOW MANY DIVISION TITLES DID PIAZZA BRING TO THE METS.THE ANSWER IS ZERO.PIAZZA IS A FRAUD AS FAR AS I AM CONCERN.WHEN THE TRUTH COMES OUT ABOUT HIS STEROID USE WHAT ARE THE METS GOING TO DO.DENY THAY HE EVER PLAYED FOR THE METS JUST LIKE THE SAD YANKEES DID WITH CLEMENS.NO HALL OF FAME FOR PIAZZA.

hehe April 11, 2009 at 5:10 pm

woah there CAPS MCGEE

sellitman April 11, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Jay….there a button on your computer called "Caps Lock".

Learn how to use it. Caps are considered yelling on the Internets.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:12 pm

I just don't understand why the Mets would do this.Look at the injuries he had at the end of his career. All signs of steriods.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Good job.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:24 pm

Thanks i am just telling it like it is.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 5:29 pm

LOL not to offend you but I meant on not using the caps lock anymore Sorry but still nice posts way to get your opinion out.

wnymetsfan April 11, 2009 at 5:35 pm

You mean the injuries that also come from being a catcher. You are innocent until proven guilty. The only things that have come out are a bunch of hearsey. Until something concrete comes out he is innocent and frankly I don't care either way. So many guys did it and not only in baseball.

fxcarden April 11, 2009 at 5:41 pm

Because Seaver and Piazza were the two biggest stars the Mets ever had. Seaver was way bigger than Doc, and Piazza was way bigger than Straw. That's why.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:17 pm

Maybe the Mets should invite Piazza,Dykstra,Hundley,Vaughn, and my favorite Mark Carreon to throw out the first pitch. That would be fitting.

MetsFan4Decades April 11, 2009 at 5:17 pm

I don't know…..maybe b/c you're innocent until proven guilty?
If it's proven, you've got a point. Until then, it's all just opinion.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 5:22 pm

True. Right now he is on the way to the HOF. It will be extremely upsetting if anything comes out before then.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:23 pm

You are right about innocent until proven guilty. The sad thing is that it is true that he was on the juice it will be a blow the the Mets organization and fan base.

The Glider April 11, 2009 at 8:12 pm

Since when don't our opinions count … especially around here. lol.

The_Fonz April 11, 2009 at 5:23 pm

wow, how do u know for FACT that piazza did steriods? until proven guilty, he's still my childhood hero

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:36 pm

If it looks like crap and it smells like crap then it must be crap. This is a guy who was about to get released by the dodgers in the minors.Come on guy.Piazza is just like the rest of the steriod freaks.

MouserDZ April 11, 2009 at 6:03 pm

Just curioius, how do you feel about Clemens? Because he hasn't been proven guilty either.

metsfan60 April 11, 2009 at 5:24 pm

wow i cant wait to go see tom throw to mike for the first pitch

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 5:26 pm

I was at Piazza's first game back at Shea. His hair was all shiny so I yelled out "mike, what shampoo do you use?" and he happily responded "Avon." Very nice geuy.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 5:26 pm

BucknersChiropractor April 11, 2009 at 6:32 pm

did he mention anything about going to guissepe franco?

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 6:35 pm

Nah, but it sure is a possibility.

metsfan60 April 11, 2009 at 5:35 pm

does anyone know when jerry going to make a pick on who to cut

fxcarden April 11, 2009 at 5:39 pm

EXCELLENT.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:44 pm

What ever happened to Sam Champion.i guess we should ask Piazza.I heard they like to share bats with each other.

Sylar April 11, 2009 at 5:50 pm

You are a very unfunny troll

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 6:04 pm

WTF thats offensive in so may ways.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 6:05 pm

fxcarden April 11, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Write your comment here…

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 5:56 pm

I am just telling the facts.i just wish it wasn't piazza.I just can't respect the man.He is a product of the steriod era.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 6:01 pm

I hear that Piazza likes the high hard one, hehe.

Mex_17 April 11, 2009 at 6:02 pm

I'm ambivalent about Piazza. I liked him as a player, but now it's pretty obvious that he was a steroid user. On the other hand, it hasn't been "proven" yet. But still, it's obvious.

I think the Mets would have been better off having Seaver throw out the first pitch to Gary Carter.

reillys5 April 11, 2009 at 6:09 pm

jay relax bro if you hate piazza its one thing….posting like 100 comments on it is another problem in itself

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 6:17 pm

It does sound like i am a hater and i don't want to sound like one.It just ticks me off that the Mets are bringing him for this historic night.i wish we could find out the other 103 names that failed the steriod test in 2003.I just want the truth to come out.

Richie Ashburn April 11, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Why do you want to see the list. After the list comes out, you and your ilk will say there were others. You'll never be satisfied. An what's the difference? You gonna change something?

Gland April 11, 2009 at 6:18 pm

I hate it when one person takes over the board. how much attention does one person need?

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 6:23 pm

Right, we need to just ignore this troll.

911nafstem April 11, 2009 at 7:34 pm

What are you talking about, it's Intense Debate, isn't it awesome!?

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 6:37 pm

you must of not been to shea in the 80's.GOODEN was the most exciting and the best pitcher in franchise history for a 5 year period.Piazza has to be the most overated player in METS history. He did make the last out on the 2000 series.PIAZZA will always be a dodger in my mind.He wasn't a home growned talent either.

dak442 April 12, 2009 at 2:20 am

So you'll trash Piazza for unfounded steroid rumors, but celebrate a dope fiend who threw away his career and our followup WS championships? Who recovered briefy in time to win a WS against us and throw a no-hitter for the Yankees? Do you even like the Mets?

ProudMetsFan April 12, 2009 at 1:58 pm

He probably doesnt

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 6:38 pm

We have a lot of hate out here.

BucknersChiropractor April 11, 2009 at 6:39 pm

hey, jay sanchez, guess what?
DAVID WRIGHT OMG DAVID DAVID DAVID WRIGHT HE IS SO BAD HE DIDN'T SCORE W/ RISP OMG OMG NOW IM JUST GONNA KEEP ON DOING THIS IN ALL CAPS AND SAYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN DAVID WRIGHT SUCKS AND I'M GONNA USE ALL CAPS TO ADD EMPHASIS DAVID WRIGHT

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Thats funny,hehe.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Actually it isnt, he is trying to make you realize how pathetic you look to the rest of us.

BucknersBackDoc April 11, 2009 at 7:26 pm

thanku for the clarification, proudmetsfan

Metsfan89 April 11, 2009 at 6:43 pm

I miss piazza

Matt April 11, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Why not have someone from the past (Seaver) throw to someone from the present (Dwright) . As a way to symbolically pass off the torch from the past to the present

BucknersBackDoc April 11, 2009 at 6:49 pm

very very good idea, i think the only thing preventing them from doing that is the fact that piazza is actually a catcher, while wright is a 3B, and nobody wants Schnieder catching the first pitch.

JAY SANCHEZ April 11, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I agree with you. That would be perfect.I will never forget how much SHEA was rocking during a Dwight Gooden start. It was amazing.

Matt April 11, 2009 at 6:53 pm

They have non catchers catch 1st pitches all the time. It doesnt really matter

BucknersBackDoc April 11, 2009 at 6:56 pm

the way it worked out that the 2 possibly greatest players in mets history are a pitcher and a catcher is just a tough thing for them to forget about wen deciding upon who should throw/catch the first pitch

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 7:10 pm

True, for the STL home opener they had someone toss a ball to Pujols.

Matt April 11, 2009 at 6:55 pm

Or how about have Seaver throw to Grote and Gooden throw to Carter.

Mike April 11, 2009 at 6:55 pm

Hello.

BucknersBackDoc April 11, 2009 at 7:00 pm

i definitely agree with the argument that there shud b some sort of a symbolism of passing on the torch to the new era, but there is also an argument that can be made that citi field should open up the same way shea stadium closed, with seaver pitching to piazza.

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 7:12 pm

That is also a really good point. But to me this is sort of a non issue. Just friggin win the home opener.

BucknersBackDoc April 11, 2009 at 7:13 pm

…with tatis at 2B and castillo benched :)

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 7:20 pm

I dont care who does it or how its done, just win the first game at the new staduim. It will emphasize the point that winning will be a tradition at Citi Field.

BucknersBackDoc April 11, 2009 at 7:27 pm

the mets wud b a team to lose their first game at their new stadium lol

CaseStreet April 11, 2009 at 7:20 pm

The post reported an hour ago that Marlon Anderson was cut by the Mets.

TalibKweli April 11, 2009 at 7:36 pm

too bad matt is busy wackin it to d murph and making a craptastic "message board" hes such a bumb…… the sny conspiracies are coming true……..

Metsfan1 April 11, 2009 at 7:22 pm

Don't bounce it.

jeenyus245 April 11, 2009 at 7:23 pm

let murphy throw the first pitch…
begining of a new era in mets baseball

jeenyus245 April 11, 2009 at 7:24 pm

let the rookies (and murphy) throw the first pitches…
new ballpark for a new era

911nafstem April 11, 2009 at 7:35 pm

Anyone have a link yet that will have a video stream of this game?

TalibKweli April 11, 2009 at 7:37 pm

in typical mets fashion they try to be a nice storied franchise but they mess it up again…… what does seaver throwing to piazza symbolize? hello anyone out there please tell me…… does it say, hey we got a new stadium but we still have greats from the past? i just dont understand….

glider1986 April 11, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Seaver throwing to Piazza symbolizes only Mets pitcher in HOF throwing to only Met catcher to be in HOF.

JasonNYM09 April 11, 2009 at 7:55 pm

I haven't had time to look through all of the other posts, but just for my part I like the idea of Seaver throwing it to Piazza. I wasn't born yet when Seaver pitched for the Mets but I obviously know what a big part of the team and franchise he was…and Piazza was the face of our franchise for the time he was here. It works out well for me.

The Glider April 11, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Grote! Not Steroid Mike.

Hazmet April 11, 2009 at 8:29 pm

I so would love to see that. If anyone can recall as my memories a bit foggy on this but I seem to remember Grote getting thrown out of a game because he dipped his shoulder and let a fastball plunk the ump once when he wasn't getting the calls he felt his pitcher deserved. Great defensive backstop.

Hazmet April 11, 2009 at 8:20 pm

Just when I had my money on Matt Cerrone to Rick Cerrone…

The_Fonz April 11, 2009 at 6:29 pm

Jay Sanchez is obviously a stupid philly fan just trying to piss people off

ProudMetsFan April 11, 2009 at 6:17 pm

Now your ticking me off. I am not gay, and as far as I know no one else on here is. Does that make you instantly believe that if you make fun about a certain "race" or group of any sort no one will be ticked off or offended by it? Im not a fan of having people banned off this website, but you sir have crossed the line into pure predjudice. You wont be on here long.
