Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors lists Jake Peavy, Roy Halladay, Erik Bedard, Matt Holliday, Vernon Wells and Dan Uggla among 14 players who could be available at the July 31 trade deadline:
Speaking of players not on the Mets…
In a post to his blog for the New York Post, Joel Sherman wonders still why the Mets did not look to sign Orlando Hudson as a free agent this past off season, especially when his price tag dropped to one year and $4 million.
According to Sherman, “The Mets knew they had some edge in that Hudson wanted to play in New York, in part, because he is such close pals with Carlos Delgado… Hudson fit so many needs for the Mets, and not just as an excellent player on both sides of the ball. He is a positive person and clubhouse force. Dodger insiders already rave about how much Hudson loves the game and uplifts the group with his upbeat temperament. With so much negativity still swirling around the Mets – as those quick Monday night boos emphasized – Hudson could have helped.”
Sherman also blogs about Mike Pelfrey’s trouble this season, and how it is similar to what Chien-Ming Wang is experiencing.

Does Joel Sherman really "wonder" why they didn't sign Hudson? Really?
nice job of Joel Sherman playing to the morons i unfortunately have to call fellow Met fans. we already have a second baseman, and he's actually playing well. it's this kind of kneejerk reaction that causes the fruitless boos at a home opener…
AGREED 100%
Right on. In no less than 30 minutes this section will be filled with idiots continuing to complain about something that can no longer be changed. "GEORGE IS GETTING UPSET!!!!!"
i know what you're saying, but I think it also had to with Orlando hitting for the cycle
definitely. he's sitting there going, "look what you could've had"
It's easy to speculate on an all-star team when it's not your money on the line…
I wonder if Joel would pay $10m for one year of Hudson because that's what he would have cost with the Mets also having to pay Luis Castillo $6m to sulk on the bench (plus his $6m per for the next two years).
Hudson is not far behind Luis Castillo. No pop in his bat, and the range is going
yea, someone should've told him that after he hit for the cycle last night.
Castillo went 4-4 in FLA as well. Cant a guy have a good game?
ahhh yes,another monday morning quarterback,viewing things with 20/20 hindsight ; )
Hey JOEL SHERMAN
Heres a dead horse. you know what to do with it.
jeez we had castillo and his already inflated contract, couldnt move it so we have to stick with him. Nothing we could do. Im sure we would've signed him had it not been for fat luis.
From what I can gather….Joel Sherman is a dope.
Because we would rather pay a bench riding 300 average homer threat like Cora 2mil.And spend the other 2mil to provide sushi for Citi field for all of the white collar fans in the seats old fans like myself had at Shea.
I happen to like sushi…and i have a white collar job…and i still can't afford those seats…but here's to you my fellow mets fan
Why is he still wondering when the answer is so simple…Omar is an idiot. Don't get fooled by Castillo, he will turn into a pumpkin soon enough
So if they signed Hudson for $4m, what would they have done with Castillo and the $18m they still owe him?
Im not exactly an Omar supporter but this one is on the wilpons not omar, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt although part of me believes castillo is here on an Omar scholarship ala julio franco.
Omar is still an idiot even if Castillo doesn't turn into a pumpkin
I have to wonder why so many of my fellow Met fans continue to watch Met baseball waiting for the other shoe to drop. 2006 we made it to the post season. Yeah, '07 and '08 were disappointing finishes, to say the least. I've been watching now for 4 decades and if you think the last couple of years were bad, you ought to try following the season when you're out of contention pretty much before you even got started – lol.
At least the past 3 seasons there was always the chance we were gonna come out on top. Infinitely better than watching a season just to watch baseball b/c it was over for the Mets in April. That being said, please, I'm begging them, can '09 be our year???
as a mets fan for decades i think you should be able to answer your own question.
That 'instant gratification' mindset so many have just alludes me. I was as disappointed as the rest these past couple of years. But the pessimism and flat out anger? I refuse to give up this soon in the season.
Just saying….
Here we go again..
A know nothing- nyc area sportsjournalist spews about what a team needs(mets, yankees, etc)
NYC area fans go berserk, think sportsjournalists know more about building a team and more often than not feed into hysteria
and you wonder why players don't want to come to the big apple
When was the last time players didn't want to come to the big apple? The business side of the sport has grown so much, that these guys all know that if they wanna roll in bling they gotta hit the big markets – which means NY, BOS, LA. These days, guys play for the buck – they'll go to a place they know they'll be superstars and make four times the amount they would anywhere else
When was the last time players didn't want to come to the big apple? The business side of the sport has grown so much, that these guys all know that if they wanna roll in bling they gotta hit the big markets – which means NY, BOS, LA. These days, guys play for the buck – they'll go to a place they know they'll be superstars and make four times the amount they would anywhere else – and not just salary – fame itself makes you rich, just ask Paris Hilton…
Some met fans actually booed the team as soon as the first official game at the brand new park ended. Wilpons must be ecstatic.
As long as the seats were filled, you bought a t-shirt,and a beer. They were happy.
you are right, but none of us really know their dedication to the team. I actually believe they want to win. Mainly because, if they win, they can make more money that way.
I have the feeling they will not be as happy as you think they are if the team collapses yet again… and those metsis are not looking so good right now. Are they?
i think the wilpons would like to win, but i dont think they WANT to win. I think they WANT to make as much money as possible and if winning happens in the process thats fine. This is evident in their inability to go the extra mile, they clearly spend alot of money but they always manage to spend just enough to appease people yet not quite enough to get that real championship team on the field.
why not post blogs bout the mets being an EMBRASSMENT to the franchise playing with no HEART AT ALL…i mean does this team blow or wat it pisses me off how we blow a perfect game for santana 13ks and we lose the last game of shea and the 1st game of citi field r u kidding me? jerry needs a hold a meeting a curse every single player out u must be kidding me..i jus noticed the marlins n philles play WITH HEART and we dont..and santana had a baby son he was probly watching this game wit his son and wife and seeing his team lose must make him regret comin here man we are lucky 2 have santana but this team so dumb 2 see it theres other competive teams that wuld KILL 2 have him we have him and we treating it as a joke lets get real i love the mets but this team is a joke and overrated ima keep wishing them 2 do good but ima keep stating the facts oh yea lets trade for halladay in july and give up OLLIE PEREZ! move livan 2 the number 3 spot and we are set
you're back again?
ypu know its firemetsmanagement fiyaminaya mrbill etc in disquise
Again, huh?
Are you a real Met fan? Or are you a Phillie troll posing as a Met fan? Bro, get a life. You are taking this to heart. Stop complaining and enjoy the ride (if you really are a Met fan). The Mets are seven games into a 162 game schedule. Give it some time! Let the team gel. Some gel quicker than others. Gee!
1) Livan pitched one game and now he's a #3 starter. for 10 seasons hehas had 10+ losses and had a 6.11 era last year. so if we do what you do our rotation with be- santana, big Pelf, Livan H., Maine, and who else….FREDDY GARCIA???
2) we are not getting rid of Oliver Perez! we signed him to a 3 year 36 million dollar contract. he may be inconsistant against bad teams but he comes through in the clutch.
3) We play with no heart? you have got to be kidding me. they came down from four runs yesterday and lost on an error and a balk. remember last year? we may have lost but remember when johan pitched the gem the second to last game? remember when the mets had two outs, down by one in the last game verses the cubs and ryan church had the most amazing slide i have ever seen? remember when we were under .500 and came back and JUST missed the playoffs. my god. how could you be a met fan and say they're an embarressment and a joke and that they're overrated.
in the words of ron darling……just get outta here. just walk on the bus and don't look at anyone.
Please let's give the team some time – come back in June. They will improve. I'm sure some of them were nervous. Please stop booing as they are giving the effort. They need our support through the year. No team changes are on the horizon so lets go with the team we have. I get frustrated as well but it's way to early to abandon ship.
nymetsKID – you are right about one thing, you are just a KID. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about … meaning you dont know baseball, what it takes to win, or how to write a complete sentence. Please go away and take your negative run on sentences with you to the mlb.com blog.s
No offense son, but once with this post today was enough – I'm just saying..
Peavy has a good chance to go…but that all depends on how SD is playing come July. But he is making about 1/4 of their payroll.
Vernon Wells has a chance, that was a bad contract. Halladay could net them a lot, not sure if they really want to lose him though.
Bedard is good as gone IMO.
Uggla being traded would surprise no one, especially if he is playing well. The marlins know how to trade for talent.
Imagine Bedard's stock if he pitches a la 2007 in Baltimore? And if he rises to the occasion so does his stock. Imagine the prospects the M's will land? Also, you cannot forget Ichiro. He may be gone as of this July too.
Yeah, Hudson would've been nice, but between Madoff and Castillo's tragic contract, it wasn't going to happen….
So would of been Manny, Tex and CC. whats your point?
Do you see Manny, Tex, or CC in this article?
manny, tex, cc all cost many times (in dollars and years) what the odog got. not really fair to bring these guys into that discussion.
Madoff made off (pun intended) with the Wilpon's money. By the way did you see how much his Citi Field seats sold for on EBAY? The seats cost $255 (face value), they sold for $7K.
Minaya may have underestimated the free agent talent. Who knows. For now they need to battle with the 25 player roster.
Frankly, I think the problem with this team is a lot deeper than the talent we DON'T have.
The dedication to their team(Dodgers) is obvious the new Ebbets Field is beautiful. But as for the Mets their other team, their dedication is money is first winning is nice if it happens.
It's common knowledge the ballpark is going to make money on opening day and even during the first weeks of the season because the fan base is excited/optimistic but, with their performance in 2007 & 2008 and higher ticket prices; that optimism will more likely wear off and you will find lots of empty seats and not many empty beer bottles.
Anyone else disappointed that the Mets wore the black hats and snow white uniforms (along with the hideous black and blue helmets) for the opener as opposed to the blue hats and helmets and pinstripes?
i like the snow whites, i think they should only have the blue hats with snow whites at home and grey on the road. but that may hurt the merchandise sales.
I couldn't believe they christened the stadium in the snow whites and even more horrid bruise caps. Big games like that should be the REAL unis – pinstripes, blue caps. Period. I'm sure Howie Rose and Gary Cohen were disappointed as usual about the "novel" unis. They are always talking about getting on the equipment manager (Charlie Samuels?) about it.
There not gellin yet? LOL
milledge demoted to AAA
wow. I said it then and I'll say it now: I'll take Church over Milledge anyday. And I know that trade was more about getting a starting catcher but I think we got the right end of the stick with Church.
Agreed Metsfan…The Mets made out like bandits. Apparently, Omar saw something that us fans didn't see. For him to bat .167 is absurd. I'm glad the Mets have Church and to a lessor extent Schneider.
Milledge has some talent but he doesn't take it seriously enough. He's doesn't have close to the attitude of say DWright or Murphy. He missed a players meeting the other day and was fined, simply b/c it was his birthday. I think that kind of says it all….
he's too ghetto…he belongs in the NBA…
Plus, he really does not have the instincts for CF. He continuallly takes bad routes and gets bad jumps. He's probably best suited for LF but may play RF because of his arm.
it was a matter of time – he thinks he's hot sh^t when he has alot to learn – i think cliff coulda set him straight = given enough time and batteries for his taser
Wow! The Mets made out like bandits in that deal! It's a shame. Milledge has potential. He's just very immature. Apparently, the "know your role rook" note Wagner left on his locker didn't help. I hope he finds his stroke. He truly has potential. But, his immaturity will always be a hinderance.
glad we got some value back for milledge in this deal.
good for the nats, maybe it'll knock some sense into him
They are nowhere near Dr. Scholl's "gellin'". LOL
no heart, no leadership!!!!! and no matter what Omar puts together it will come up short! the black hats are terrible bring back the ole BLUE days! Does Wright look like he is in a daze? trade everybody except Wright, Santana, Murphy and Church! Start new with the basics like FIELDING! Timely HItting get new leaders, hardnoses not new millionaires. I love the guys to say they are in a funk, that was OK when you were making 100K not 10 million! Where is Swoboda, Harrelson, Boswell,, Choo Choo?
HAHAHA !! I'll buy them 10 cases if that's all it will take.
This post is an "EMBRASSMENT" to the English language and "ima' hope we don't see yet another. And I seem to remember that Johan was not on his way to a perfect game the other day — there was already a runner on base when Murphy made his error.
not a day has gone by since hudson signed with LA that i dont think about why we didn't even make some type of offer. is that weird?
i wouldve liked to see hudson in there just as a fresh face who could maybe spark the offense a little more than castillo but hes on LA and we are stuck with castillo so we might as well all just hope he can figure it out and he seems to be hitting the ball harder than ive ever seen him do as a met, so maybe things will turn around for him
Not Hudson. Starting pitching, starting pitching, starting pitching. The Mets have a #1, three #4s, and a #5. And Pelfrey may be a #5, too.
wow it's only mid april, are we really talking about trading deadline already? It was an unnecessarily long spring training with the team not together most of the time. Give them 2 or 3 weeks to warm-up to the new park and each other before hitting the panic button.
TOTALLY OFF TOPIC (wish we had a msg board)
But let me throw something out there for you guys. The entire first half of last year, and to a lesser extent the second half and this off season, this whole board (myself included) was begging for a youth movement. We wanted YOUNG guys to come up and play the game hard.
We got that. The bullpen, the rotation (1-4), the starters and the bench are all pretty young. HOWEVER….what comes with youth?? INEXPERIENCE.
We got a pretty darn young team that has the potential to put a winning product on the field day in and day out. We, as a collective fan base, need to take a step back and realize that we got EXACTLY what we wanted. Youth and an upgraded pen. But we also have to deal with the draw backs of that youthful inexperience.
The guys will get better this year, its a new season, new park, the pressure of the last two seasons etc. Someone else above put it perfectly, no one seems to remember what it was like cheering for the mets even though it was obvious they were out of it by May 1st!!
There are things that worry me about this team, sure, but I'm willing to deal with the hardships of youth because the payoff is usually there. Patience. The pen has looked great, Pelf struggled last night, and Ollie…..but Santana, Maine, Livan have looked either great or good.
Hang in there mets fans, itll get better soon and this first week will be out of our memory.
Good points. If they can just start clicking as a team, I'm willing to bet the rest will fall into place. They've got the talent and contrary to what some feel, they've got the desire…..
Well put, yet ironic considering you call yourself "Jaded."
As of this morning the current first place teams are the Blue Jays, White Sox, Mariners, Marlins, Cardinals and Padres. It's a marathon, not a sprint. 7 down, 155 to go.
Exactly!
haha i actually lol'd regarding the part about my name. Its something totally un-related to how i feel about the mets. basically a small joke that happened 10+ years ago and ive stuck with the name ever since.
LGM!
There are some things which concern me too about the club, but overall it is an entertaining squad to watch. And I remember some of the over the hill , overpaid mets teams of the past. I'll be watching…
The average age of the team is 29.6. Just babes in arms. :)
looking back we could have had Orlando Hudson for 2 mil more than Alex Cora. thats funny but I expect Omar to be able to pick up a number of guys this season if we need to.
although Omar's midseason moves the past 2 years have been really lacking
Can't argue with your 2nd paragraph at all. Can only hope this trade deadline will, if necessary, be different.
The other point though, would seem to require that either Castillo would become a bench player, or be released, or that Hudson would be a bench player, and I don't see any of those scenarios as likely. Regardless of price tag, Hudson wasn't coming here IMO.
most the guys on that list either would cost too much or dont currently fill any voids for us.
If the Mets had signed Manny Ramirez….everything would have been gravy. Tim Robbins is awesome. I loved that interview; lol, when asked of what he thought of the off-season he just kind of rolled his eyes, and of course was being courteous and mentioned the upgrade to the pen, but he was totally fuming over the Mets not having signed Manny. He said "yeah, I appreciate the upgrade to the bullpen, but…I wanna start winning games 10-2 already."…or something very similar, if that wasn't verbatim. It was clearly a tongue in cheek stab at the Mets not having signed THE RIGHT GUY TO FIX THIS HORSE EXCREMENT SITUATION WE'VE FOUND OURSELVES IN!!!!! IT WAS A ONCE IN A LIFE TIME OPPORTUNITY, AND THE METS BLEW IT!! I WISH OMAR WAS HEAVED ON THE FIELD ALONG WITH FRED WILPON ON HIS PRECIOUS STADIUM GRASS AMID A MAN-MADE HAIL STORM OF ALL HIS NEW FANCY CONCESSIONS!! AND SPIT!! LIKE I GIVE A FLYING YOU KNOW WHAT ABOUT A FRIGON CHEESEBURGER!!! THEY NEEDED TO SIGN MANNY RAMIREZ, AND THEY DIDN'T. HORSE SPIT!!!!! FRIGON, HORSE SPIT!!!!
TRADE JOHN MAINE FOR SALTAMACCIA AND SIGN PEDRO!!!
Hell yea Kherub,
I'm feeling you on that, this team is coming out of the gate like it's still spring training
and alot of these dellusional fans talking crap about it being "early in the season"
apparently Florida and Atlanta did not get that memo.
I'm sick to my freaking stomach with this freaking organization.
We refused to sign Lowe in order to sign the biggest basket case in all of baseball.
Pelfry is not a #2 pitcher and Maine has not demonstrated with only 5 decent innings since last year that his problems are behind him.
Buddy, we are in trouble, it's showing early and Met Nation doesn't have a freaking clue.
some of us have a clue, but we are called irrational, reactionary, ledge jumpers, trolls, whatever else. I LOVED tim robbins reaction to the question and I totally picked up on it. I thought burkhardt ask him what he thought of the mets chances this year but i could be wrong, either way anyone could see he was NOT happy but gave the courtesy "the bullpen is better" response knowing full well we had other problems that went unaddressed. If only he said what we all knew he was thinking.
"…we are called irrational, reactionary, ledge jumpers, trolls, whatever else."
In a reactionary manner,go irrationally jump off a ledge.Maybe you'll get lucky and land on a troll ;)
Excellent, it's true. I just want to add that I genuinely like this team. I know people rip on them for some perceived lack of heart, but I think they are dead wrong. Teams always look bad when they go down 0-10 in their last 10 at bats. But it happens to every team. I like rooting for this team. I think Wright is a great, genuine guy, and Reyes is also a genuine guy and exciting player. We have seen Pelf grow up and we have seen Murphy come from out of no where to become a potential star. I feel like I know these players, even if I know deep down that I don't, and I wouldn't trade it for a hired gun like Manny who has made his career in another town and in another time.
the season is over people, it's ok, you can go home now, just try not to cry to your mommy's too much. I mean, if after 7 whole games, this team can't convince me they're going to win the world series, then what use is it holding any kind of belief and staying positive about the team going forward?
So the season is over with already?? Ha, ha, ha, ha- ha
I've seen mets teams get off to better starts than this, and not win a thing!
You sound like a bandwagon fan to me; go root for some other squad
I think you might need to change the battery in your sarcasm detector. And while you're at it, change the battery in your smoke detector as well. Smoke detectors save lives!
lol heb btw i channeled the spirit of fydrich he said that you used to talk to your shovel when u were digging graves
That was only after he smoked the contents of the shovel. lol
Oh yeah, we should just discount the first seven games, right? It's not like they were trying to get off to a fast start or anything. They really didn't want to win the inaugural game at Citifield in front of everyone. If they wanted to, they surely would have. I mean, it's not like we've been thoroughly trained in the importance of each and every game. Who cares right? Hey, cool breeze, wake up. Once again management FAILED in the off-season, and ONCE AGAIN THINGS AREN'T AS PROMISING AS THEY SHOULD BE. You're telling me if the Mets signed Manny things wouldn't be a whole lot better right now? Yeah, I know….go open a concession at Citifield, and sell your nonsense there. Seems like people will buy anything if you tell them to, right? Why sign Manny if you don't have to shell out money for the necessities if you can still get people to buy what ever you want them to?
why do you things have to be "a whole lot better right now"? What are you asking for? 7-0? 6–1? Is that all that is acceptable to you. We're 3-4, get over it. We're not playing our best, it happens. We're going to lose 65 games this year, deal with it. This isn't about Manny, there wasn't any money to get Manny, so get over it. And were things for the Mets supposed to be "promising"? You're the one who is getting fooled, thinking we're "supposed" to go 6-1. That's not baseball. Taht's not this team. WE don't have have a great team, in fact, there are no great teams. We certainly have a chance to win this division though, and giving up right now, like so many of you are, is just pathetic. I, as a met fan, don't need you around.
YES! 6-1, 7-0, 5-2, HOW ABOUT A WINNING RECORD!? IT IS MOST CERTAINLY ABOUT MANNY!! IF THE METS HAD MANNY, YOU BETTER BELIEVE WE'D BE 5-2. 6-1 RIGHT NOW. you make me sick. I as a TRUE METS FAN DON'T NEED YOU AND YOUR LOSER-ISH WAYS AROUND!!! TAKE A HIKE!! NEXT!
AND THE METS DO HAVE A GREAT TEAM.
Yes,because we all know that Manny is known for his stellar defensive prowess, right? He never takes a play off or takes a roundabout way to the ball, ever! All Hail Manny! lol. Btw,could you sound like any more of a whiny bitch? It's pathetic…
NEXT!
"We're going to lose 65 games this year, deal with it." LOL, probably closer to 75-80 losses with this crap rotation and pop gun offense. I will be surprised if they finish higher than 3rd, they needed to do a lot more than fix the pen. This years pen will be just as ineffective and overworked with 5 inning starting rotation we have.
yeah youre a real friend why don't u go play with mr johnson and the juice crew my friend
Why would you even consider calling yourself a "fan" and waste your time coming on here to post? All you're going to write is about how you think the team sucks? Are you just here to get a rise out of people? Because I certainly can't think of any other explanation. If thats the case no one needs your whiny ass around here…
how bout a LETS GO METS chant during Jackie robinson night tomorrow? ENOUGH with Jackie Robinson. Trade the rotunda to cooperstown for 1000 gallons of BLUE and ORANGE paint!!!
LETS GO METS!!! ( the stadium should have been modeled after the team that plays there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Tim Robbins should have signed Manny, he's got the money, especially after he filtered out all of that money from Warden Norton when he was in Shawshank prison
Someone should tell Tim Robbins the bats are made from trees.
He'll never go to another game again
Didn't Robbins and Sarandon lose money with Madoff too?
Eh, nevermind I was thinking of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgewick.
why is this Hudson crap still being posted? Matt I love this site, but I think you are in love with Orlando Hudson and moves the Mets didnt make over the offseason. Get over it, christ.
Omar needs to be fired.
i think you need a lobotomy – oh my mistake – YOU ALREADY HAD ONE !!!
at least save the Hudson stuff for when Castillo is actually struggling. Right now hes doing great.
+1.
Let's start booing Castillo when he gets a single. Stupid Louis. Should have hit a double.
Here's one name that could be available at the deadline, or sooner: Ben Sheets. All he'll cost is money. No prospects going away. Sign him to an incentive-laden deal with a vesting option if he meets the goals.
think the rangers are on the fast track for him – like ive been saying it will either be oswalt or cliff lee
Jackie Robinson is a baseball patron saint and like Selig with the "everybody retire #42!" idea, Fred Wilpon will only get accolades for whatever he does honoring Jackie Robinson, and rightfully so. HOWEVER, while I respect Wilpon as the forever Brooklyn Dodgers fanboy and for fulfilling his lust for this modern/retro stadium, how totally UN-METS can it be? Citifield cries out "visiting ballpark" for the Mets, no matter how new and fancy it is. I'm sure time will rectify this odd feeling, but yeah, some Mets blue & orange would help.
agree clap whole heartedly – robinson was a good man and its right that the mets are giving him recognition for his achievements in the game and in the human rights field – i just wish there was more nod's to the mets history – i still feel that cleon jones tommy agee and al jackson – 3 most loyal of the all time mets should be recognized somehow
I agree. I wish there was more Mets stuff in the stadium. They could do a lot more
i think they will – especially after willets point is cleaned up – i just cant believe the lack of foresight on the front office's behalf – especially after all the complainin we fans have done
Rusty – no doubt the wall colors must change…and they should name features after Mets players/history. Seaver's Club instead of Ebbet's Club. Agee's Landing. Mex's Mezzanine for the Excelsior Level? Etc, etc.
Jackie was a great man – and transcends team (and a damn good Republican, if you'll allow a guy named Gipper to note)….but being confronted with nothing but a Dodgers uniform in tons of pics and videos at our front entrance is a bit jarring to those of us who still hate the Dodgers since 88!
i was the one that suggester the falcone foul pole or the vereyzer veranda along with the rusty's ribs and the new k korner
I know…they need to do that kind of stuff. And, the walls can't stay black. :-)
I love the Mets very much but only the Mets could open a ball park and lose on a balk…..ya gotta laugh.
So true JRod. I kept catching myself shaking my head during the course of the day just saying to myself only the Mets could pull off such a feat. I too love this team but man they really can piss me off.
I would gladly trade Murphy for Matt Holliday. Probably a salary dump on the part of the A's if it comes to pass.
I also would gladly send Pelfrey and his hand-licking to SD for Peavey or Toronto for Halladay. I realize it will take more than Pelfrey, so I will add Fernando " I haven't done a thing yet " Martinez, and any reliever they want except Putz or K-Rod. However, if Wagner shows me something and it's close to the deadline, I might take a calculated risk and trade Putz, replace him with Wagner, but I would need to get Halladay in that scenario, and I would need to be able to sign him to an extension.
hey guys sorry i havent been on – rushed my wife to the e.r yesterday – 6 stiches under the eye
I bet she behaves now, eh? ;)
not funny wanny – and you know i like ya man
sorry, russ. just joking. this intense debate crap brings out the worst in me.
understood man i can't stand this new system but i don't accuse my online friends of being wifebeaters lol – child molesters yes wife beaters no :P
Hope she is doing better!
still alittle sore thanks for asking – hope u had a good holiday
Oh jeez, wish her the best for a speedy recovery.
yeah she's hurtin – but she can't wait til sat to see johan pitch
She's a keeper!
My wife made me feel like a completely inferior Met's fan the other day by singing the entire Shickhaus Frank jingle I couldn't remember…..
Sorry to hear that Rusty. Hope she recovers quickly.
thanks 4decades and how is your dog and how was your easter??
Vet told us today she's doing better than expected so that's a plus.
Easter was quiet, but nice. Would have been better if they didn't squander that gem pitched by Johan – lol.
Two games in a row lost on unearned runs. Man, I hope it's good Ollie on Wed b/c this team needs to start clicking on all cylinders.
I was shocked they didn't wear blue hats with a white B on them and Dodger jerseys.
LOL. Even though you are a Phillies Phan, that WAS funny!
yeah even a blind phillies fan finds a philly cheese steak sangwhich every now and then lol
I don't see much similarity in what Pelfrey is going through and what Wang is going through. First of all, Wang is recovering from an injury. And Pelfrey has never been good out of the gate as a Met. And I don't think that most pitchers who rely on location care much for pitching in Cincy and New York in April when it is difficult to feel your fingers.
Yea Hudson would have been nice can he pitch because right now the Mets have 3 massive holes to fill
PELFRY
PEREZ
MAINE
until these 3 get on track if ever, this team is not going anywhere.
I'm ticked at the poor showing out of the gate, with the exception of Johan Santana
this pitching staff along with some ignorant "it's early in the season" delusional rah rahs
are not aware that the season has indeed started.
Florida and Atlanta did not get that memo of "IT'S EARLY IN THE SEASON".
What did Maine do to piss you off? 2 runs on 2 hits in 5 innings and 80 something pitches is not good enough? His count was low enough that he could have/should have pitched another inning or two.
aint husin on the dl?
"aint husin" what ? are you speaking english ?
Maine pitched 5 good innings, the best he's done since LAST YEAR,
sorry but it's going to take alot more than 5 innings of pitching to covince me that Mr. Maines arm problems are resolved.
Since it's the second week of the season, I think it is fair to say that no one has done anything since last year.
And while I don't downplay the importance of April wins (I think they're as important as any other win, a win is a win), I think it is way too early to consider Maine, Pelfrey or Perez a "hole."
Wanny,
I can only hope you are right, you might want to take a good look at the May schedule if these guys don't get on their horses by then, then you can kiss your precious season goodby.
Yes it's only April but these are the same issues we had with these same pitchers at the end of last season, and if you watched spring training which I'm sure you did you'll see that indeed there is a legitimate cause for concern with regard to said pitchers.
ok boys and girls it the tuesday and im damned tired edition of " this day in mets infamy with rusty" so lets just get this over and done with – cuz im ticked off at alot of the fair weather fans that were booing last nite – but anywhoo
happy b-day goes out to the one man polish bomb squad Mark "bombs awayyyyy!!" Bomback (1953)
Transactions:
New York Mets sold Duke " da dook of flatbush" Snider to the San Francisco Giants on April 14, 1964. – i felt that was heresy – even though i wasnt born yet
New York Mets released Grant " one toke over the line" Roberts on April 14, 2005.
after seeing shefield batting yesterday – i think mo vaugh should really be motivated in his comeback lol
is it me or was fatty mcfaterson wallowing with glee over the mixed reviews of citi?? from what i understand yankee stadium is alot worse – unless the pope says otherwise
ok guys gotta tend to my wife
cyas tomorrow nite
In light of everything, the biggest concern I have with the '09 Mets is the lack of proverbial "blood and guts." Most of us refer back to the '86 team and to do that again, as great as Hernandez, Carter, and Strawberry were what won the championship that year was the guys like Backman, Knight, and Dykstra. I don't see any of that "street brawler" type. What does everyone think?
The things is that i think wright actually tries too hard too much. I think he presses when the team needs some1 to step up, and that in turn hurts his game. Thats why i love the kid, the hearts def there, he just doesn;t finish the job. I just think that some needs to step up and kick the team in the pants, cause in my opinion they're a little soft. i just think we need 1 more starter to put us overthetop. say what u want bout pelf, but clearly he isnotready to step up and be the #2 on a WS team. and can we get a catcher that isn;t an auto out, if i have to watch schneider fail in a big spot again, i think i'm going to be in the market for a new tv,.
I for one would like to see the Mets stop relying on a team from 23 years ago, and another team from 40 years ago. Enough already. If this team doesn't win, their only place in history is along teams like those they fielded in the early 90's. Same result.
What?
Oh yeah, b/c a team 3 years back that made the post season, and last two years went down to the last game is just like the years of the worst team money can buy…..
Bottom line…..nobody ever remembers those that strike out in game 7 looking at a curve ball, so………I will disagree……..these Mets haven't done squat, except get lucky one year……..if they had won the pennant, they would have my respect much more, but bottom line is that after the Endy catch, they stuck their heads up their ass, and have been in that mode ever since.
thats why u r mr positive
Ahh look,a negative creep posing as a mets fan. i thought they we're all weeded out already.how do they sneak back in? lol.
Matt,
I'm sorry but this format has got to be shown the door, I mean, come on,
In order to read other replys I have to press reply and blah blah blah blah,
it's also time consumming and totally inefficient when compared ti its predecessor.
buckner how did people react at first to the system that was in place before the winter meetings when matt first started using it? was there any resistance at first?
Guys – who heard about this – MILLEDGE SENT TO AAA BY THE NATS check out the Washington Post:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal...
What a disaster this kid turned into. Even with Church's struggles, I'm glad we got rid of him
Saw it reported on the MLB network.
thats like saying liberace was gay – DUH lol
thanx hazmet btw anyone see me on mets weekly lol
doncha remember spinal tap? how much more blacker can it be? none more black lol
damn i wish kong wuz here
You two going to play dueling banjos? :)
what is this the meeting of the mindless?
for now this hudson thing is done and over with so why do we keep bringing it up and beating it to death. we all wanted him, we hate the castillo contract, and in the end we are stuck with lou, end of story. but you know this next off season its gonna be brought up again, especially if castillo has another bad year. but for now just drop it.
I guarantee you that the mets are either gonna get Matt holliday or roy halladay spend the farm. The mets are here to win now.. The next 3 to 4 years david wright and jose reyes are gonna be in their 30s and free agents there gonna make alot of money and they cant afford to keep both just win a ring this year or next year before their done. And all of these mets fans that are worried because of 7 games get a life .
How can you disagree with fact? That 90's team, just like the mid 70's thru early 80's and the first 8 years were God awful. Plain and simple.
The last 3 years, well you just can't compare them to those years. Luck had nothing to do with it, – unless you're referring to last year bad luck and all the injuries which resulted in 12 playing LF, 4 playing RF, 2 starters injured, no closer for the last 6 weeks. And they still managed to go down to the wire.
And BTW, no one is EVER gonna forget it was Beltran with that K – lol.
umm Mike Pelfrey forearm tendinitis am i the only one that saw athat on sportcenter
excuse me it was on Baseball tonight peter gammons and ravich said it
Yeah I saw it. Gammons sad big Pelf might miss a start or two.
There you have it. Give him a few days off, send him to PSL, let him heal and hopefully return to the form we all expect and need this year.
Which old former stud do we bring up to replace him?
Yeah, they also dug Johan's grave in ST earlier this year
Yes.
I think they that they should get rid of the two-tone hats completely. Wear the blue hats with the snow whites and the pinstripes AND the away grays (a la last year's Yankee Stadium drubbing).
Anybody watch Ron Darling on Daily Show?
It's seven games people. Chill out! Two games were pretty much lost by errors. There are issues but I'd like to see Pelfrey pitch once in something more than 40 degree weather before I make any judgments..
Intense Debate? Lol. More like teenagers who just LOVE the Mets giving thumbs down to anyone who actually functions from the neck up. I tend to be very positive during the season and tough in the off-season. Now it's a lot of thoughlessness. Anyone who thinks Hudson wasn't worth $4m is crazy. Terrible move by Omar who I wanted back.
Now Pelf is out for few starts,I can't wait to get a good look at Freddie Garcia, because spring training just wasn't enough.
Orlando Hudson certainly could have helped, and I hope they look at him next off-season, but having the balls to shift Murphy to 2B would have been just as valuable. No what if's though. I'll try to be as confident with Castillo, who hasn't gotten off to a bad start. Although a couple shaky games, I'm still confident with the bullpen. Expecting perfection isn't realistic, but we've gotten pretty good results, especially from J.J. and Frankie. We need to get them the lead going into the 8th though. We need to get stronger in the beginning of games and in tie games late in the game. We shouldn't even need to be trailing, come the sixth or seventh. What I think all of us need is to see a good Oliver Perez start tomorrow. A good win. Yeah, we'll be like it's opposite Ollie, but it's something we're going to have to learn how to accept. Most of us wanted him over Wolf, although wanted Lowe, but you can blame Wilpon and Madoff for that.
What this team needs is a lead. In some ways, I think Johan and Frankie can be that, but we need a guy who's out their, in the line-up, taking charge. Orlando Hudson has that fire Paul Lo Duca had in '06, except less controversy and more personality. We've dealt with babies like Lastings, egos like Pedro and malcontents like Wagners the last few years and I'm sick of it.
I have felt that way for a couple of years now.Keith even said it last year after the second collapse, yet Omar chose not to address it.I feel they need a true winning player to come in and show the younger guys like Wright, and Reyes how to win.
Hell, I'd get in the face of these players lol Someone needs to light a fire cracker under their ass. Someone needs to step up and get in the face of all of their teammates to pump them up. This team needs to be alive and ready. As crazy as it sounds, I think this team could really follow in Daniel Murphy's lead. He comes off as a quiet guy, but he's very smart and takes full responsibility for his mistakes. He doesn't dance for no reason. If you look at Jeter with the Yankees, he was their 2 hitter and had to prove himself to earn his teammates respect and did. He hasn't been the most talented Yankee, even during their best years, and definitely isn't now, yet is still their symbol of leadership.
Schillings got some rings…oo he went there…no did he just say schilling, what a moron! The problem is..where would you put this player? outfield is taken, they weren't moving muph or beltran, despite what they said thisst, idt they wanted to move church. 3rd base ss 1b are all ocupado. I woulda liked o-dog, but they pre-maturely jumped the gun on cora so that went out the window, so where does that leave us…catcher perhaps? I think Aj Peirzinksy (clearly spelt wrong) was made available.
thisst= this spring training..my space bar is a little jammed since the feliciano balk.
You have to remember that LM is 24 years old. He’s 6 years younger than Church. How LM develops over the next 6 years is obviously up to him. He has enormous talent and if he grows up can still be a productive major league player for many years. I wouldn’t give up on him just yet.
i agree with that but idk who on this team is ever going to develop this attitude, they need somebody to show them the way and so far nobody has stepped up, idk who i expect to anyway
