News: Sheffield should play Tonight
Prior to Monday’s game, Jerry Manuel told reporters he plans to use Gary Sheffield in right field tonight against the Padres.
…sure, because, when your outfield has made two costly errors in each of the last two games, sheffield is clearly the answer… yes, that was sarcasm…
Sheffield, as quoted by the Daily News, said:
“I’ll be ready. I’m looking forward to it. It’s been a long time since I’ve been out there… I’ve played in the outfield before, it ain’t like it’s something (new), so I’ll be fine… I’m looking forward to it.”
Sheffield said on Monday that he talked with Ryan Church, and told him, ‘Don’t worry about me,’ saying Church should simply play his game, and know that Sheffield is there should Church ever need a ‘breather,’ since he’s only a pinch hitter, ‘and that’s it.’
