Are the standings on this page up to date?
nope, but don't worry. the mets will get the division. the fish will die out in the middle of the season. maybe get WC but the Philles might get that
How in the world is Wright still hitting 25 points over .300? Every time I watch him he seems to strike out.
good lineup, specially with castro in there. i think the mets have to leave castillo in the 2 spot and move muphy down.
Agreed, with the play Castillo is playing, his ability to get on base is probably more needed in the 2 spot. I think it's a bit overrated about having a fast #8 hitter so your pitcher can sacrifice for him.
I'm with you guys on this. He's getting on, which is good. Nothing wrong with Murphy at the plate right now either, but with Reyes/Castillo, it's the perfect table setters. Castillo has more speed than Murphy. Plus with Murph in the 7th spot, the bottom of the lineup looks a lot better as Murph is more likely to get that extra base hit than Castillo is.
yup, bottom of the order needs some improvement, and moving Castillo to the 2 spot lengthens the lineup.
Who's a better hitter? The answer to that question is the answer to the question of who should bat #2. It means significantly more AB's over the course of a season…
Love the lineup. Let's hope the team gets Santana the win. Let's Go Mets!
Looks like a good and scary lineup especially with Santana pitching and batting. Hope the Mets can score some runs for him. That will be awesome if Santana pitches like his last start.
Its so scary they should have saved it for Halloween. But its perfect. Rup some of that cream on Sheffield but don;'t tell him what it does.
This lineup should do some clubbing for our ace. LGM!
this is a good line up but why did they let murphy had the day off is it because of last sunday when he made that bad play
trying to ride Sheffield's bat… Sheffield's no better in the OF than Murphy, it's not about defense.
how do i follow you on ur twitter
cant wait for the game today, johan will be amazing as always
LETS GO METS
Let's Go Mets!
Let's make it two in a row!!!
Any idea how I can watch this game on Justin.tv?
only if someone is streaming it
wow 1-1 with a .71 era. thats insane. btw does anyone know if i will get blacked out on sny due to fox, because i live outside of ny?
I'm in the metro area and my cable listing is showing it on SNY. According to the sched, the game will be broadcast on SNY and MLB.TV.
Kudos to Pelf – though I think it's the best decision to miss one start. He really wanted to pitch and really fought not to be on the DL. Makes it a little more difficult to get his replacement up here though. They said on the pregame, it's really only a precaution b/c if this was the middle of a division race, he would have pitched.
Oooo, I'm liking the line-up… Way to congratulate Sheff by giving him the starting nod the next day.
no i know, i have it on sny also, but sometimes with the fox game being on later any game from 1pm and on will get blacked out
At least Omar and Manuel finally understand that this team needs another bat and the bottom of the order is aweful. They are hoping it will be a cheap fix with Sheffield. Let's hope so.
Stupid MLB.TV Blackout Restrictions! I want to watch Santana's Citi Field debut!
there has to be a way to stream the game and circumvent the asinine MLB restrictions…
Where do you live – I am watching the SNY feed on MLB.tv right now. The game isn't available at all on my Extra Innings package.
I'm in DC. I have Extra Innings but not MLB.tv
I'm watching the game on mlb.tv right now.
Let's Go Mets!

Apparently, the WSJ is not allowing links. Worth finding on your own.

Let's Go Mets!
And Perez deals. Fast ball hit in the air to left field, thats deep. Back goes Chavez. Back near the wall…LEAPING…anddd….HE MADE THE CATCH!!! HE TOOK A HOME RUN AWAY FROM ROLEN! Trying to get back to first Edmonds, hes doubled off and the inning is over! Endy Chavez saves the day! He reached high over the left field wall, right in front of the mets visitors bullpen, and pulls back a two run homer! He went to the apex of his leap, and caught it in the webbing of his glove, with his elbow up above the fence. A miraculous play by Endy Chavez. And then Edmonds is doubled off first, and Oliver Perez escapes the 6th inning. The play of the year, the play maybe of the franchise history!
LETS GO METS!
and the Upper Deck shakes……
I like the grand slam single call better.
I'm actually conflicted about whether to bat Castillo or Murphy 2nd. Castillo has done a really good job of getting on base but the pitchers haven't done a great job of getting him over to score on a Reyes or Murphy single.
Castillo is best batting 1st or 2nd, but with Murphy batting 7th, he'll get less fastballs to hit and make the bottom of the lineup too lefty.
[polldaddy 1549151 http://answers.polldaddy.com/poll/1549151/ polldaddy]
BELTRAN! Finally. Put your best hitters at the top, period.
I think in a perfect world Castillo is the best 2-hitter we've got (not, of course, the Castillo of 07-08…). Murphy has only what? 300 career at-bats? In fact, I like this lineup right here, loaded with power all the way to the 8-spot (if Castro can get some of his timing back), and I will not be lead to believe Sheff, even at 50, is a worse outfielder than Murphy. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the kid, but unless Sheffield slumps badly, to me Murphy is a bencher…
You bat Murphy 6th. He does not show a lot of difficulties with LH thus
Reyes
Castillo
Wright
Delgado
Beltran
Murphy
Church
Castro
At this point would be my prefered lineup.
Can't have castillo and catcher bat back to back. kills too many innings. plus, murph doesn't take enough pitches to allow reyes to steal
We had a lot of luck last year with Church hitting second. I might swap him and Murphy and leave Castillo (who doesn't K much) in the 8 spot.
The only problem with Castillo batting 2nd is that he might fall back into his old habits and take too many pitches. Jerry told him to be more aggressive. I don't think he can be too aggressive in the 2 hole if Reyes gets on base before him
good point.
Why the he'll isn't this game on MLB package? No Fox conflict. Not on WPIX. Just screwed.
I don't know…..these days are why I get BOTH the Extra Innings package AND MLB.tv!
I am watching it on the SNY feed on MLB,TV. This is going to be another Johan GEM, but, a loss. We have never faced this guy before and that points to a big L.
I hear ya…and have had the same thought today….but I am hoping we win in a battle of the pens.
Here's a link to the Pope's interview with Mets official David Howard answering fan complaints:

I like how Castillo is playing lately, but when I watch him take 3 straight strikes right down the middle of the plate I just want to smack him.
I don't think he would've done that if Reyes wasn't on 1st
Funny. The only thing I DO like about Castillo is that he takes a lot of pitches. :)
Reyes
Beltran
Wright
Delgado
Church
Murphy/Sheff

YES!

Please don't tell me we are gonna make another Santana opponent look like a future hall of famer. I can't take the heartache. Not after the win we had last night.
Gallardo is dealing.
fair point. Good life on his fastball. Let's score some runs now.
well, Gallardo does have great stuff, and he is dealing, so it's not that surprising. But, we'll see if he can hold up, we know Santana can do this all game.
Philip Humber was designated for assignment yesterday. Any word on if he passed thru waivers? He'd be a nice pickup for the Mets who need all the rotation depth they can get down in AAA.
Thank you, Johan, for not striking out. It'd be embarrassing if Gallardo had a 27 K game against us today.
Why embarassing? Gallardo is still a young, highly-praised pitcher…
I would not call Humber "rotation depth"
We recently called Jose Lima "rotation depth!"
DAVID WRIGHT makes a play like that EVERY GAME.
Actually, I should have said at least once every game.
A good play from David Wright?? But, but…Mike Francesa says he's not a good 3bman!!
Does it seem that this new format just puts post where ever the hell it wants?
Use "Last activity" and the latest comment or comment with th emost recent reply will be at the top.
Why are we not stealing bases anymore? The only one we did was on a 3-2 count. Come on get to 2nd and then Castillo can bunt.
Was wondering that myself last night and today.
Yes, it's true. And is it just me, or does Santana actually look a lot better so far this year than he was even last year. He looks so comfortable. I think this new park wlll help too, cause if he ever has problems it is with HRs and this is a big big ballpark.
DO NOT CRITICIZE. Everything here is peprfect.
It lIooks very sunny for a night game. But if you say its a nite game its a nite game. metsblog is perfect.
'Homeruns go to die'…..
Nice catch, Carlos.
ah…love the pitcher's park
Who is this guy pitching for the Brewers? and why are we making him look like cy
OMG, we almost had another come from ahead loss!!! This game was ugly and we should not have this much trouble with the only other team that is as bad as we are. My big concen ib Boobtran, twice he came to bat with the bases loaded and what did he do, STRIKE OUT! We need mor productive out from these guys in those situations. Even Santos in his first MLB at bat grounded out to third, but, drove in the run from third. Another thing that is an issue ib the constabt give back's. We score 3 runs early and by the 5th we are behind by a run or two, that as to stop also. I was thrillied to see Shef hit 500 and tie the game and Castillo win it with a nubber. It should not have been that close, but, a WIN is a WIN and we will take anyway we can.
Pepsi Refresh? This site sadly has gone the way of ESPN – all about marketing. There seems to be increasingly less focus on the content and more on the sale. Sad.
how dare you try and make money Matt?!
I don't get the criticism, randytate. Matt started this site as a diehard fan for fun in college and has turned it into an actual moneymaking job! I say, good for him! The content hasn't changed other than to get better (more access behind the scenes, at ST, etc). If Matt makes a buck doing it – without charging you or me, I might add, then way to go Cerrone!

Nothwithstanding our ability to score any runs when the one reliable pitcher we’ve got is on the mound, I think everyone agree our biggest weakness is starting pitching. If we don’t fix it soon, the bull pen is going to wear out by mid-summer and we can forget about October for another year. Eric Beddard would be a great #2. Although both the Mariners are off to nice start, I just don’t see them being in the mix come this summer. I would give up Niese, Evans, and may be Moviel (F-Mart, Holt, Meija, Ramirez, Flores, Marte, Veloz) for Beddard. Once Pelfrey is healthy, you can count of Santana, Beddard, and Pelfrey to give us 7 innings in most starts, giving the bp a break. And for those inconsistent starts from Maine and Perez, you’ve got two good long relievers in Stokes and Livan. I know some people will complain about giving up our future. But we are jus one SP away from putting us over the top and we may not get this opportunity again in a while. Thoughts?
Would be nice if they got Santana a run.
Crap. Rally killer….
Don't understand why Church is swinging there. What was the count? If we are double stealing we should take a pitch and try to get a fly ball for the only run we need. Man, Johan is so freakin good though. Just ridiculously good. Why cant we get this poor guy a win?
I'm surprised I haven't seen many fire HoJo comments yet. :D
well that sucked
Except when Ollie and Maine pitch. :D
wow, the braves went cold quick
And it looks like FL is losing to the Nats 6-3 in the top of the 9th….
Thats what happens when the Nationals leave town
Wow. What a terrible error. Let's hope that makes the difference.
Come on, get Santos in from third. Johan derserves this win.
And on that note: YES !!
Castillo should buy a sponsorship for that hole between SS and 3B. The Luis Castillo Hit Zone. That has a nice ring to it.
Slap Zone!
a double play? wow, Wright can't buy a hit in a spot like that
Really. And he really looked frustrated with that last at bat. Don't know what it's gonna take to turn that around.
Part of the game, he's been turning a lot of DP's on defense i guess turnaround is fair play.
He does hit into a lot of them, but he also turns a lot, he'll be ok, looks like his hitting streak is snapped.
What else is new? Prepare for the parade of apologists. I like Wright a lot, but he's not a guy I want up in key situations in the late innings. Not that I'd pinch hit for him, but he's got a track record now. Chase Utley, he isn't, sad to say.
True enough, but it's hard to be too upset with the guy when I look at the back of his baseball card. I'm glad he's on my team. .300 hitting 100 run scoring 30 home run hitting 100 run driving in 20 stolen base gold glove winning 3rd basemen do not exactly grow on trees, especially in this organization.
I'll take a .280 average with 15 fewer RBIs if he could actually muster up some big hits every once in awhile. It's getting to the point where people are going to walk the 2 hitter with RISP to get to Wright.
That's fair. Personally I'm happy the way he is, sometimes we forget he's 26 years old, but if I were going to "change" him I'd take the guy Keith Hernandez suggested the other day that he could be: a fewer home run hitting, .340 batting, more RBI even than now guy, if he went to RF more often.
People act like he does not go to RF on purpose, and that's just wrong, he has been hitting a lot of balls to RF, yesterday included that have even made it to the warning track, but he gets jammed a lot so it makes it more difficult.
This is such nonesense. Just because he's in the situation a lot it seems like he fails a lot. Don't forget baseball is a game of failures – a .300 avg means you fail 7 out of 10 times. Wright gets enough big hits – u can't expect him to succeed every time, it's unrealistic…
He was hitting .375 close and late coming into the game. And even last yr in his "unclutch" season he hit .286/.412/ .464/..876 in those spots, compared to Utley's .221/.353/.347/.701
Bobby Ojeda would. On Mets Weekly today, Julie asked who from the 09 Mets would he have wanted on the Mets while he was playing. His answer was DWright because he reminds him of HOJO and is much better.
You're right, tmu. Chase Utley he is not. He is slightly better than Utley. At least from an offensive standpoint. Wright for his career has a higher OPS, higher OPS+ and slightly better numbers with RISP. Utley is an overall better defensive player however.
One thing to note is that Utley has played almost his entire career in a bandbox and that he is also 4 years older than Wright.
Right now, I give the edge to Wright.
Agreed. And both Utley and Wright are ridiculously good players.
So much was made about Wright's hitting with RISP last yr which is fair game…but extending that to say the guy has never been clutch is simply untrue. Sometimes guys numbers are just off in one aspect in a given yr. Utley hit .221 in close and late situations last yr…does that mean he is terrible and has never been good at getting a big hit late in a game? Of course not
i saw that dwright DP coming
is it me or jose reyes does not run as fast as he used to. i could swear that in the previous years that ball he hit last night would not be a double play. he is getting throw out a lot more trying to steal
It's just you.
Arg, why are we not stealing? Reyes would be at least at 3B right now.
It's not even stealing. I find them not taking the extra base often enough. They have the speed to do so. (ex: if Reyes is on 1st, he should be able to make it to 3rd a lot of the time on a single by the next batter).
i really hate the time lag on mlb.tv
It was particularly bad today.
Tell me about it, I live in PR and this is the only to get the game, w/o paying for Xtra Innings (I'm cheap this month).
Eric,
Actually, it was blacked out on Extra Innings today – so maybe that created the crush of traffic and extra hiccups on MLB.tv. I get mad at the lag time on the laptop and frustrated occasionally with the other team's announcers on Extra Innings when getting a non-SNY feed, but overall, I am thrilled that I can see the vast majority of Mets games all the way across the country (I'm in Oregon). I mean, back in the day, you got maybe a few televised games, then the whole season, but only if you lived in NY. Now….it is amazing – I can watch a Mets game on my TV in Oregon, or on my laptop at the airport in L.A.
Me too. And it seems even worse on SNY than the other broadcast for some reason.
The mets are just AWFUL…thank god our bullpen is unreal or we would be 2-9 right now
i heart jj putz
My god the Nats are fcking horrible
YES !!
Oh, what a difference a good BP makes….
Good to see Johan get the win as he deserves it. Kudos to J.J. and KRod.
Still like to see them start getting some runs on the board by getting the timely hits with runners on base…..
Exactly right, on all counts. Let's go get , ugh, the Met killer Suppan tomorrow.
Today's game was one of the best games I've seen in a long time. By any team.
Wow
Memo to Brian Schneider:
Take you time coming back, buddy. We're good.
Man the Nationals are terrible.
DONE AND DONE!!!! WAY TO GO SANTOS!
Just a great job by a call-up cathcer. Scores the lone run and makes a great throw to catch a runner tp end the game.
Just a great job by a call-up catcher. Scores the lone run and makes a great throw to catch a runner tp end the game.
Way to go Johan, Putz and K-Rod. Bats have to show up tomorrow against Suppan.
it is me or does jose reyes seems to have lost a step
Too soon to tell….he doesn't seem to be running in obvious running situations – which IS odd.
Well that and Castillo is getting on base a lot and no one is behind him to drive him in.
I would even entertain switching Castillo to 1st spot and Reyes 2nd to get Reyes going and take advantage of Castillo's only positive.
Could we see:
Castillo
Murphy
Reyes
Beltran
Delgado
Wright
Church
Catcher
Castillo is off to a good start getting on base, Reyes would benefit from hitting third, and Wright could benefit from dropping in the order until he gets going again.
Impressive. Could not and actually did not have a win like this last season.
Definitely want to see more close wins in the coming months . . . including September.
Absolutely TMU….hey – blue caps today! It was a Festivus miracle! Now….the pinstripes perhaps tomorrow, for the love of Tommy Agee, PLEASE!
I didn't get to see this game because of the Fox broadcast rights and where I live (I live in Cardinal country for those of you who don't know) How many men were left on base today?
You really should move. Missing a metsie game makes you less perfect than all the other posters. I hope they forgive you. I do but only if you promise to move soon.
8 LOB and 0-5 RISP. Yep. That said, that kid Gallardo was flat-out dealing. Sad to say, the only RISP AB that seemed poor / like he was pressing was David's.
Cohen commented that the Mets haven't won a 1-0 ballgame since June of '07 – until today….
BP consistently holding leads. Haven't seen that in a while….
GREAT WIN!! This is the second time that we did NOT hear Takinn Care of Buisness after a win, infact, I dont recall hearing any song? It just does not seem like a METS game without that :{
They've played it for every win so far.
Santana to Putz to KRod. I would love to see that in a bunch of pennant chase games.
Attendance: 36,312 (63.3% full)
Very nice….had bad visions there with the leadoff hit in the 9th, but what a great way to end the game.
Man, this offense really needs to wake up. Wright looks downright awful unless there's no one on base, and even then…. Definitely liking how good Santana is looking early, as opposed to most of his Aprils. And the bullpen… man… those years of Franco/Benitez/Looper really took years off my life, but now…. The 8th-9th innings are a joy to watch with a lead now. :)
Coming into the game today, Wright's numbers were actually better with guys on than without. 368 with runers on base, .316 with the bases empty
Hmm, alright, guess it just seems like he's doing nothing with runners on. His numbers are good, but he's looking really bad out there. He'll turn it around at some point and start really giving us something, I just hope it's sooner rather than later.
"numbers are good but he's looking really bad"
what does that mean? Is he too ugly? Not shaved enough?
I agree, he's not locked in by any means and not really picking up very many extra base hits. But at least he is finding a way to get on base for the Carloses even when he is struggling.
I wonder if Jerry will switch Wright and Beltran. It might take some of the pressure off of Wright.
That's what I'm hoping for. Someone really needs to tell Wright to stop trying to pull the outside sliders/fastballs.
He might want to try going for a base hit instead five run homers. He now tries to pull everything, and has forgotten about right field.
He has been hitting the ball to RF, i have not seen much to prove your "forgotten about right field" statement.
Everyone's a critic!!!
You need the #5 guy to hit just as much as you need the #3 guy to hit. Wright has actually hit several balls the opposite way the past few gms…I don't think that is the issue.
I like it, we still need timely hits, gotta tough it out scrap and be productive, we can't depend on errors all the time. We still need another solid bat!
i just noticed carlos gomez is hitting .103. Humber was released. How are the other two pitchers the Mets gave up in the Santana trade?
Deolis Guerra just turned 20, so I wouldnt be in a rush to judge him.
But he won his first start with 5 shutout innings. He is in the FSL for the third year in a row though…
Mulvey is in AAA again and would be as good a call up option as Jon Niese if the Mets still had him.
Was there at the game! Quick, uneventful, boring game for those casual nosebleed, ruckus causing fans. But a beautiful, masterful showdown for those fans that appreciate the finer points of the game on a gorgeous Saturday that felt like July.
This is the game we lost over and over again last year (Santana leaves after a great outing leading by one, bullpen comes in to blow it) but this year it was THE perfect showcase of the doors shut formula of Santana—>Putz—–>KRod. Exactly the game we envisioned while we made those offseason signings. Here's to a whole summer of them!
So you are not criticizing fellow metsie fans are you? If so that is horrible and you owe everyone a big apology. shame on youy for hating. This site is for loving; loving Cerrone and all his sidekicks and Omar all the metsies. Shame
I'm just Glad Johan go the win. He deserved it. He looks great right now
Seriously, he deserved the Cy Young last year. Hopefully he gets it this year, along with a WS ring.
Has a SP even been an MVP or WS MVP?
I was trying to pay last years' WS no attention so I could be wrong, but I thought Hamels won WS MVP last year?
Yes, he did. And he's not looking good so far this April. His MVP aside, I'm ecstatic we have Johan. I said it before the season started…I know we have question marks in our rotation but I wasn't impressed with the Phillies starters at all. And hands down, we have the better BP right now, especially with their set up guy out for 50 games.
Maine and Pelfry start getting it together, giving 6 good innings and we'll be in good shape. Perez, well Ollie is always gonna be Ollie….
Listening to the baseball updates and wow:
Look at Wang's first 3 starts. I think he's broke a franchise record for most runs given up. And that Yankee BP is looking horrible right now.
While you're still concerned with the Phils, the Marlins are 10-1. I say we're not chasing someone below us – we're chasing the team currently in first place – and they have a heck of a rotation btw…
I'm concerned with all teams in the NL east not named the Nats..
Was just commenting on the previous poster who mentioned Hamels MVP in the Ws…
He did deserve it. The Mets BP cost him that. He would have easily won over 20 games last year. Lincecum did have a great year though, so I wasn't as upset over it
I just read that O'Day was placed on waivers to make room for Nelson Figueroa. I imagine that the Angels will re-claim him, considering their overall pitching situation. I like Nelson in the long man/spot starter role, and I'm glad that they didn't send Parnell down just because he happens to have options. I think this was the right move.
Parnell is bringing it right now and it seems he has earned that 7th inning spot. If you're right I hope O'Day clears. Id like to see a bit more of him before he is let go and thus possibly preserve some of our pitching depth.
Glad to see Figgy. He did well last year against the Brew Crew. Hope he can stay on. Wonder if Wagner has a suite at "the ballpark"
I was thinking that same thing. Angels pitching situation is looking pretty desperate right now – although I think the bigger problem is maybe 4 starters hurt.
It's possible that we work a trade. It's not like O'day will help what the Angels need.
Maybe – still I see Figgy staying up as long-man for a bit – wouldn't he have to clear waivers if we tried to send him down?
Went to my first game today..very happy with the pitching. Santan was Santana, enough said, putz perfect, k-rod did his job. Could use some more timely hitting, but hey just get one and thats a W for the Johan. One cpmplaint, got a hot dog, small, worst hotdog have ever got at a stadium, and was a good 4 dollars i think. Very underwhelming dog, but beautifull stadium. Couldn't see a tiny tiny part ofthe lf line, but still an upgrade. Rangers win, Mets win, good day! Go mets!
Who thinks the Mets will resign Delgado? I hope they do and he finishes his carrer with the Mets as well as Wright, Reyes, Beltran and Santana. Also, the Mets are going to win tomorrow. The Nationals are terrible now and the Marlins are just lucky. The Mets should be in 1st place by the end of April or beginning of May. These are the final standindg of the year. Who agree's with me?
Mets
Phillies WC
Marlins/Braves
Braves/Marlins
Nationals
You are putting honey on yourself for the trolls, try not to make statements like that on here
I will hold my opinion on Delgado until Sept, as should Omar…
regarding Sunday, I will be happy if Figueroa keeps them in the game.
The Mets early schedule is not favorable and I think it will be very tough to catch the Marlins that quickly. It might not be until after the All Star break, but that is fine. Look at the May schedule, if the Mets get to June 1st more than a couple games over .500 it will be a nice result.
Actually the Marlins worry me. Last year no one through the Rays would hang onto 1st, eventually they had to lose it right? Well the Marlins have even better pitching, and will expand thier payroll to bring in some relievers. They are better than a 3rd or 4th place team. Someone needs to get them some losses before they get too much confidence.
That is so sweet. Well, you should ,not only him but all the little metsies. They are so 100% perfect.
Hating is bad. You are setting a bad example for your felow littel metsies.
it's spelled little
well, after watching the Yankees 2nd inning, i dont think our pitching is so bad……. Wang is just awful
Holy crap score some freaking runs for Santana…….he should be 3-0 and on the way to a CY Young
Also O'Day going blows, Angels will take him back for sure and he goes back to where his buddy was and likey takes his spot after he passed away eeeek
I guess the Mets have tons of depth and Figueroa will just stay in O
Days spot in the pen
as for Santos, meh whatever they are all even in my books ,Rivera, Cancel, etc
Interesting but Tatis is scheduled to start at …. 2B tomorrow. Wow, interesting move.
I heard Jerry say that on Friday. Said he needs to get Tatis in the lineup, get him some consistent plate appearances, so he was going to start him at 2nd for one of these day games.
I wonder why they just didn't DL Pelfrey. It would've been for only one start. It would be a shame to lose O'Day.
We were going to lose O'day eventually in a situation like this or to make room for another lefty down there (you know, before Feliciano's arm falls off!).
Been out enjoying the nice day here in Oregon after the game….came home and saw the Yank-me score. Holy cow! What a shame. :-)
Don't think Figgy is a ground-ball pitcher so might make sense. Although with Castillo as hot as he is, I wouldn't mess with him. I'd have Wright take a day off.
Putz arm strength showed today, he consistently threw his 4seam between 95-97 and his splitter was so filthy it dropped off the table, I can't wait until this bullpen gets into mid season form along with the line up.

Tip your hat to the Mets today. They played a great game. Surely, we'd love to see them score more runs, but tip your hat to Gallardo too. He pitched great too. Even though the Church hit and run double play was unfortunate, I like that Jerry was aggressive. The basic thing to take out of this game is that, we applied our method, which was the plan since December. Get in the 8th with a lead and it's a nearly guaranteed win. Who'd think we'd have no blown saves through the first 11 games of the season, with 9 games decided by less than 2 runs? On the other hand, the Phillies have had two blown saves in the last two days, one which snapped Lidge's streak. One thing about Mets fans is, we demand perfection. We're unhappy when we don't get it. But it's alright, because it's justified why we have high expectations. We had anxiety in the 2nd game of the season, when Feliciano boiled our blood, and we got upset with that walk off from O'Day, but from Sunday through Saturday, the bullpen has only yieled one earned run in I believe 17 innings, which is incredible.
