I think it is absolutely shameful for Mets fans to boo David Wright now. It accomplishes NOTHING. Do you want him to struggle further? It seems like it.
So he isn't allowed to EVER slump in his career, or HIS OWN fans will turn on him? Some fans. It makes me ashamed to be a Mets fan. Maybe he shouldn't have worked hard and played so well over the past few years, so your expectations wouldn't be so high....
DW is one of the most likable, hard-working, hold-nothing-back guys in the entire league. If you were to survey the league for players who would be the LEAST likely to be booed, Wrights name would be on there. And yet here we are, not even out of April yet.
This paragraph from Ted's article says it best:
"We hear stories of Red Sox fans booing Ted Williams and Phillies fans booing Mike Schmidt and we cringe. But then here we are, booing the guy who could very well become the defining hitter of this franchise like those players were for theirs, and we're doing it less than three weeks into a six-month season."
RELAX people. Two of our biggest bats are slumping and most of our rotation is in disarray, yet we are only 3 games out! Think about how good we'll be once clicking on all cylinders!

I like the bit where he says that he always come through and that when Wright comes out of his slump we all going to cheer him and forget the past............ Had Wright got out of his slump earlier in the year we might have been a few games over in the race but no we lost again by 1 game. Its not like wright is a rookie here he is a 4-5 year veteran who should be mastering his weekness.

I'm going to guess that your annual salary is less than that of David Wright. Whatever percentage less your salary is than his, we'll apply that same percentage to the seating capacity of Citi Field, and that number of people will go to where ever you earn your living and boo you to see how you like it.

That article by Ted Berg was a good one. Anyone boo'ing or thinking of Boo'ing Dwright or any other Met player should really read it.

Dwright is in a slum. 18 games. Can you guys cut him some slack.? Met fans can be the absolute worst fans around.

Given how the team has performed for the past 2 years, you really do have some disgusting nerve to get on anyone for booing.

Actually it is the opposite. This fanbase treats this team as if they're the dynasty Yanks or current BoSox. Too many fans here treat this team as if they accomplished something ever. (See for example, how they demand Wright get the treatment reserved for winners and HOF players)

On booing. I never boo players. I try never to do anything to a player from the stands that I wouldn't do in person face-to-face. No one bats 1.000. There are some players I respect, and I cheer them.

On rooting for a team. At the end of the day, I'm a sports fan, a baseball fan, and whether it's the NY Yankees, the NY Mets, or the Philadelphia Phillies, I think the most I can ask of any contest is that everyone leave their best effort on the field, to the extent possible that day. I think the Mets are a viable enterprise, they don't need me shouting for them.

On team performance. The sad facts are generally true that if you finish high in the standings one year, you get back draft picks which really hurt the bottom line down the road. So, winning is losing, losing is winning. It's a double edged sword either way. Just look at the Yankees and Mets, how they rebounded after prolonged periods at the bottom, with splendid draft picks, complemented by a couple choice free agent signings. The time is now. The time will come. In the meantime, I'm just happy we have baseball, National League baseball, without a DH, in NYC.
