Relievers are thoroughly misused today. Your closer has to start the 9th, and your 8th inning guy has to start the 8th. So if your starter gets in trouble, who do you bring into a 1-run game with 1 out and bases loaded in the 6th? Why, your mediocre middle-innings guy! A failed starter, a journeyman side-armer, a loogy. But that''s what the book says, so that's what all the gutless managers of today do.

They Just need to PLAY WITH ENERGY and passion for 9 innings, NOT one inning!
everything else will come if they compete as Johan does every second of every game he plays!

You seem to forget, Matt Cerrone is "the pragmatic one".

Metsblog is at its best when it is providing news, interviews, extra access (e.g. during spring training) and linking to commentary around the Web.

Metsblog is at its worst when it is attempting to provide commentary of its own.

We could use a bit (ok, a lot) less bloviating.

Actually I think he is the exact same guy. He still runs hard and plays hard. The guy is always getting his uniform dirty and making plays. I think the problem is really the fact some fans expect him to do no wrong and always come through when needed. It just isn't that simple. Hitting a baseball is not an easy thing to do. Could he be hitting better with RISP sure and in the end he probably will. He is struggling right now just like last April and the one before that, etc.

If you think that my comment is the most ridiculous comment you have read on here in a while, than you haven't read many of the comments to this post alone!

I can appreciate a true Mets fan and in my opinion, Matt C is one of them. Frankly, if you are a true Mets Fan, you can join us for Lunch!

In the end Matt is still a Mets fan. He just has a lot more access than we do and his thoughts/feelings about the team are often what drives the content on here just like any other blog.

One of the problems you get when a site or blog gets bigger and attracts more visitors is that with the increase in visitors you get an increase in bad posts. Example is mets.com message board. I left that place because of how moronic and worthless 98% of the posts were. You find a more obscure site and it is still a problem but not as prevelant at least that is what I have found.

Totally! Matt's post was on the money. It wasn't a doomsday scenario. And if I want a rosey picture painted of a lame loss, I'll go to Mets.com.
