The least you should know…
- Oliver Perez was putrid again today, allowing four runs on five hits and SIX walks over 2.1 IP. Perez’s is ERA is now 9.97. It could be worse, just ask Chien Ming Wang. Any chance the Mets could put Ollie in a witness protection program the next three years? I here Buffalo is a nice place to live.
- Sean Green did his best Kenny Rogers impersonation by walking Shane Victorino with the base loaded in the 10th inning to force home the game winning run. I’d rather see Victorno hit a grand slam than be walked.
- Ken Takahashi looked steady in his 2.2 innings of work.
- Daniel Murphy was 1-for-2 with his second homerun in as many games.
- Carlos Delgado walked as pinch hitter in the eighth inning.
Other Thoughts…
- Sean Green cursed himself by wearing number 48 during spring training.
- After looking weary versus the Nationals on Wednesday, J.J. Putz looked strong for the second consecutive day in relief, striking out two in his two innings of work.
- Carlos Beltran continues to rake, going 2-for-5, but with runners on first and third and one out in the top of the tenth, he grounded into a inning-ending double play.
- If Pedro Feliciano continues to give up homeruns to left-handed batters, can he continued to be called a left-handed specialist?
The Mets and Phillies play the rubber game of their three-game series tomorrow afternoon, with John Maine facing Joe Blanton, starting at 1:05 p.m.
Update, 6:31 pm:
Carlos Delgado walked as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning today.
Update, 3:03 pm
Jerry Manuel told reporters today that Delgado is feeling better, but he would prefer to give him more rest
According to Manuel, the team is leaning against putting Delgado on the DL.
Manuel feels the team and Delgado will likely need to monitor the hip all season long.
Update, 12:45 pm:
According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News, Jerry Manuel posted two different lineups for today’s game against the Phillies: one with Carlos Delgado in the lineup, and one without.
Original Post:
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that, though ‘he checks out OK,’ if Carlos Delgado is unable to start today or tomorrow he will be put on the disabled list.
Delgado last played on Monday, meaning he can be put on the DL retro-active to that date.

Yesterday, in a report for FoxSports.com, Ken Rosenthal quoted Omar Minaya as saying, while the team does not lack leadership, the team’s stars do lack ‘a certain edge.’
However, according to Newsday, Minaya talked with reporters from prior to last night’s game, tried to back track from his comments, and said:
“Let’s be clear, we have an edge. Our edge is different. Some guys are serious. Some guys are happy. There’s a different form of leadership. Yes, I feel this team plays with a lot of passion. To me, that’s all subjective. Our guys play with a lot of passion and a lot of energy.”
In a response to a similar topic, the New York Post quotes Jose Reyes as saying:
“Everybody here is competitive. Everybody here loves to win, and loves the game and tries to win every day we take the field and we give everything we have.”
…good… i hope the players hear the talk about passion and heart, etc.,, get mad about it, and play with a chip on their shoulder because they’re trying to prove fans, media and of the NL East wrong… because, then, ding ding, guess what, they’ll have an edge… that’s an edge… and i don’t mind us, the fans, being the wedge… whatever… if the players need to use us as the symbol of who to prove wrong, go for it… whatever it takes… maybe that’s the role we fans have all been waiting to play…
Following the game, Jerry Manuel was asked to respond to Minaya’s comments, and told reporters:
“Uhh, the team lacked an edge? What kind of edge are we looking for? If that’s what he said, he’s the General Manager, that’s good. So, I guess we had an edge tonight (laughing), yes we had an edge.”
After yesterday’s win over the Phillies, Jerry Manuel spoke to reporters about the game.
“I guess we had an edge tonight,” Manuel said to reporters. “I feel good about how we approached the game. We have to bring that level of intensity and focus every night no matter who we play.”
David Wright also discussed the team’s attitude when they play against Philadelphia, saying:
“It seems like we always pick it up a notch when we come here… I hope that this team really understands this feeling and the intensity that we have here and that carries over to Atlanta and that carries over back home because this is the kind of intensity and focus that we need every day.”
…do they not know this yet, i mean, last night’s game reminded me of the team i have been waiting for, but i just hope they don’t lose focus again…
