Last night, David Wright had two hits and drove in a run.
In his last 15 at bats, Wright has five RBI, one home run, six hits, three for extra bases, one stolen base and he has struck out just three times, while walking three times.
“He’s had some flaws in his swing,” manager Jerry Manuel said to reporters before yesterday’s game. “He’s so gifted and good that he could still survive… I think something kind of clicked for him. Now it is a matter of him getting comfortable with those things. He’s not very far off from what he really is.”
Livan Hernandez pitched to 25 batters, using just 75 pitches in 6.1 innings pitched, during which he surrendered one earned run.
Hernandez induced three double plays.
“It almost appears as if he plans it that way,” Jerry Manuel said
after the game. “He’ll go around a couple hitters to get to certain guys that he knows he can get to hit a ground ball. That’s the experience he has.”
…he does such a great job of working front to back on hitters, keeping them off balance and buckling at the knee… he may not be throwing 95 mph, but he changes speeds so much, with such strong command, batters look fooled and end up topping the ball and getting weak grounders…
Hernandez is 1–1 with a 6.75 ERA in five starts, during which the Mets are 3–2.
