Note: Going to Battle with K-Rod

by Matthew Cerrone on May 8th, 2009 at 8:49 am

Francisco Rodriguez pitched to four batters to lock down his ninth save of the season, in nine opportunities, and his fifth save in a row and fourth and four days.

the best part, i get the feeling K-Rod totally understands the Mets-Phillies rivalry

“You knew they got a guy who’s a great closer,” Shane Victorino is quoted as saying by the Journal News.  “But it doesn’t change our approach.  We feel we can come back against anybody.”

well, apparently not everyone, shawn… i mean, shane

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, courtesy of ESPN.com, this is the second time in his career Rodriguez recorded four saves in four days.

he is inspiring, that’s what i like best… his energy is infectious… i find i can’t sit still when he’s on the mound, a) because it typically means the Mets are within range of a win, and b) because his antics are exhilarating… yes, he lets guys on base, but it’s hard to deny his track record over the last few seasons

Rodriguez, when was asked if there is any affect on his arm when pitching this many days in a row, told reporters:

“What affects me even more is four or five days without pitching… When I pitch four or five days in a row, my command is where it needs to be.”

David Wright explained later, “A lot of guys would’ve asked for the day off… That says a lot.  That’s the kind of guy I want to go to battle with every day.”

Jerry Manuel told reporters following the game that he is not likely to use Rodriguez tonight, instead he may go with Bobby Parnell and J.J. Putz should the game come down to the final two innings.
