First of all, the Mets got ahead 7-1 after three innings and then did not score anymore. You can credit the Phillie bullpen, or at least give some creedence ot the fact that, as is their trend, the Mets rested on their laurels. They let the Phils backinto the game and had to use Rodriguez for the fifth day in a row. I was furious that they even gave them a chance to get back in the game. Secondly, David Wright was obviously sent a message by Condrey - and Reyes by Victorino. In baseball, turning the other cheek is weakness. They did not retaliate. Next series if Utley or Howard or Victorino do not go doqn, I'll be angry. Remember the '86 Mets and how they intimidated. Think about the 2000 World Series and Piazza being nailed with no retailiation. Don't think it doesn't make a difference in the way a team feels about itself. Last year, the Phillies came back from two large deficits and beat the Mets (one was 7-0). In a third game, they were down 10-1 and made it 10-9. This team needs to beat up on them and knock them down. Until they do, they won't win the NL East. If you wear a mets jersey to the game, they hassle you and scream at you when your team does good, then when someone hits a home run. they ALWAYS have something to say.. usually steroids. Beltran doesn't get a moments peace.. i get it, sports fan might yell something now and then. but they don't quit. ever. They occasionally fight us, and of course get outnumbered. then WERE hustled all the way down to the security station, because we're not home team, where assumed we started it. Citizens Bank Park is a beautiful park despite all this, cheese steaks and crab fries (french fries with old bay seasoning and something i can't quite make out) are REALLY amazing.. But there bathrooms are a sham. There urinals are like dixie cups!! But i got to hand it to phillies fans, they know how to pre game it.
