The Yankees have recently DFA some pitchers to get them off of their 40 man roster to make room for needed extra catchers and relievers.

The lack of playing on a consistent basis is what did it. And Manuel has been resting Church against rightys and then sending him up to PH against leftys lately.

I’m not sure how that is protecting Church.

Added some of Castro’s numbers to Schneider’s. Schneider’s ERA is 3.81, Castro’s is 4.76 and Santos is 4.82. However with the exception od Perez and Hernandez every other pitcher has a lower ERA with Santos (Santana 0.00, Pelfrey 4.09, Maine 1.50). Trade Castro, let Santos catch those three while Schneider catches Perez (1.50 ERA) and Hernandez (2.90ERA). That will them some fresh cathers at the end of the season. That being said I could probbaly catch for Santana and he’d have a ERA under 3.00.

Let’s try not to make snap judgements here….

I’m not ready to say these 40 or so at bats of Santos is what he will be for the whole year. Afterall, every team had a chance to sign this guy numerous times before the Mets picked him up.

I hope he continues what he is doing, but I would rather have other options in case he doesn’t.

Yeah, I think keeping 3 catchers on the roster is pointless. Best option is to keep Sch in rehab as long as possible then option Santos (he does have options right?). You need depth and he will be back at some point.

I really don’t see what Schneider brings to the table to warrant any type of job in this team.

He was heralded as a great game caller but there hasn’t been any appreciable difference, over the past year, in how well the pitchers have done with him vs. Castro or now Santos.

Hi bat is weak and he really doesn’t have any sort of arm throwing runners out on steal attempts. His being a lefty with the bat also makes him more of a misfitin this lineup,

I don’t see the logic in changing the Castro/Santos platoon just to give a job back to a light lefty hitting catcher who is not outstanding in any way.

The team ERA when Schneider catches is a robust 5.67.
Castro’s is 4.15 and Santos is 4.88
With the exception of Hernandez and Perez all the pitchers post a lower ERA with Santos catching and the team is 6-4 when he starts. They are 7-7 when Castro starts. Team is better without Schneider right now.

Should be a starter over Church. At least Sheff doesn’t swing at crap.
