According to the Associated Press, the Mets have acquired OF Emil Brown from the Padres for a player to be named later.
The 34-year-old Brown hit .260 with four HR and 22 RBI this season in 146 at-bats with Triple-A Portland.
Brown will be assigned to Triple-A Buffalo.
Brown hit .244 with 13 HR in 117 games with the A’s last season.

he’s a switch-hitter, isn’t he? at least this offers some outfield depth with a little pop in his bat. basically an older, less swift with more power version of angel pagan.
by the way, what does everyone think about potentially going hard after adrian gonzalez? the friars are going to tank soon despite their current surge. peavy is as good as gone and you’ve got to believe gonzalez is going to follow. i would have no qualms whatsoever about sending murphy, neise and holt over in an attempt to land adrian. we need a first baseman….
I guess that buffalo roster is getting pretty empty considering how much omar has had to dip into it.
Do they really need another 4th or 5th outfielder? Emil has some pop so I like that but an infielder would have been a better acquisition under the circumstances. Emil is probably no better than Pagan or Jeremy Reed.
Interesting career for Brown – I was surprised to see he was that old because I only remember him from KC where he was starting in 05…but turns out he played 97-01 for Pittsburgh, then diappeared for 4 years.
He had some nice years for KC:
17/86/.286 in 150 games in 05
15/81/.287 in 147 games in 06
Solid .350+ OBPs and double-digit steals as well.
A head scratcher in that Buffalo is loaded with marginal major league OFs (Kielty, Sullivan, Pena, now Brown), but there is certainly a call for OF depth on this roster.
Wondering if that PTBNL could involve Castro? Schneider is almost ready….
Sad thing if he hits at Buffalo like he did for the Pads he would be the 2nd most productive guy after Ja. Valentin. At least until FMart possibly gets returned.
You can never have enough depth at Triple-A especially with the injuries the Mets have had but they do seem always have an abundance of 34-37 year old journeyman infielders and outfielders. It’d be nice at some point to have some young players to bring up as your depth in utility roles
This seems like an odd move, though I would think it is to add outfield depth. Perhaps young Fernando needs a bit more seasoning? Is this a set-up for another trade involving one or more of our current outfielders?
