By Matthew Cerrone - May 30, 2009 11:37 am

Oliver Perez experienced additional discomfort in his knee following his last start for Triple-A Buffalo.

He had an MRI in New York, and was diagnosed with tendinitis of the patella tendon.

Perez will instead return to St. Lucie where he will continue his rehab.

Any chance the Mets could void Perez’s contract due to poor performance / health issues? I know, I know, it doesn’t quite work that way, but a guy can dream can’t he!

Whatever happened to players just sucking? Why does it always come out that something is wrong with them.. first the knee now this… he just isn’t good.. bottom line.

    hi derek lowe!

Eh, this was just a no win for the Mets……

Lowe got signed to a contract that he doesn’t deserve…..and so did Ollie for that matter. However, after missing out on Lowe, you had to get Ollie…

As for admitting a player just stinks……..doesn’t happen……David Ortiz is one or two 0-4 days away from having a mysterious wrist injury.

lowe fully deserved the contract he got

with this stadium, lowe at 15 mil per year would have been a steal

        • Xavier22 says:

It wasn’t the money, it was the length of Lowe’s contract. He will not be worth anything near $15M in his 4th year.

        • Constnza81 says:

I’ll respectfully disagree with that assessment when Lowe is ineffective/injured after year 2 of that contract and the Braves are in essence paying $30 million for a guy who’s either throwing batting practice or is recovering from some arm injury (see: Pedro Martinez). With Perez, there’s still a chance he can get his head on straight and be a decent mid-rotation starter. Not saying I was ever enthused about that contract either, but it’s the price the Mets have to pay when they don’t cultivate their own starters. I can’t think of any FA pitchers in recent years who have been “steals.” The whole market has been inflated and more and more of these guys are going to go unsigned with these outrageous contracts as the economy tanks and franchises wise up and develop their own guys and sign them in their arbitration years.

Moyer is to for that matter…

on another note, I’m loving how little comments are showing up Matt, it makes the whole site more inviting because I dont have to wae through hundreds of comments on every story.

        keep up the good work.

Is tendonitis contagious? It seems to be running rampant among the Mets!

Is there a cure for Ollie’s “tendonitis of the brain?” Perhaps the Mets should whip up a magic potion, and tell Ollie to drink it when “the bad Ollie” shows up!
