Manuel isnt doing Redding any favors with this line-up. I understand the need to give guys some rest, but do Wright and Sheffield need it o the same day? Throw in a middle infield of Martinez and Wilson Valdez, and Schneider after a month layoff, and I out the over/under on Mets runs today at 1.5.

Looks like Johnson made an impression earlier this season. This appears to be a game Manual appears willing to concede. This may not be a bad approach – willing to lose a battle in order to win the war.

Wasn’t John Maine supposed to pitch today. Even the SNY post game promo’s are saying that he was.

    Is something wrong?

    • JefJarrett says:

Just heard on WFAN that he is going tomorrow. Not sure if there was a change or not, but I heard Redding’s name yesterday as well.

      • ToastyJoe says:

I guess they figured there’s no way they’re beating Johnson, so might as well let Redding take one on the chin (which he did, predictably).

        • JefJarrett says:

When I saw Johnson was up this weekend, I figured 2 of 3 would be good series. That would make this a 5-1 homestand and then go take on the Pirates.

Deck was stacked anyway this game……vs Johnson, Redding, today’s lineup…..

Gotta come out strong tomorrow though.

  6. Mrs. Met says:

Jerry “gift-wrapped” this game for the Marlins! Redding is not a good pitcher. Therefore, Jerry should’ve played the better offensive players instead of putting a “B team” on the field! It does not fit in with the team philosophy of hustle because “every game counts.”

Remember what Jerry said? He said the team does well when two of the four “core” guys are hitting. The only playing is Beltran!

What was Jerry thinking? These types of games are very deflating! This is how the Mets lose their “Edge” and the ability to “plunge the knife in deeper for the kill!”

nah this is Reddings day, always has been, maine is in slot 4, today is slot 3, i heard that too but they later said it wasnt maines start.

  8. JefJarrett says:

Anyone else think Angel Hernandez likes to be antagonistic on purpose? Shouldn’t have rung up F-Mart there at the end, and then appeared to stare in at someone as he was walking off the field……….

    • ToastyJoe says:

Angel Hernandez only likes to be antagonistic to the Mets, as the past 10+ seasons have proven. I wonder if Fred Wilpon backed over his cat or something.

  9. BullpenHelp says:

Considering we just had an off-day TWO DAYS ago, can anyone explain why we waved the white flag with this AAA lineup today?

Two years ago, we missed out on the division by one game. Last year, it was a one-game margin on the final Saturday of the season.

Every game counts. We should never give up like this.
