I'm a big fan of the platoon system. With Schneider/Santos and Murphy/Tatis already in place, what do people think of Neise for DeRosa, with a platoon of Church/DeRosa in RF? Gil Hodges would have loved it!

When is Takahashi going to get a chance to start? He seems best in long-relief so far and usually that translates well to starting.

He also had only played one game of the last 4...It's important to play regularly.

That said, think about that lineup without Beltran. Murphy is the 3 hitter and Reed is probably hitting in the 5 hole...That 3-4-5 is just awful.

He hits .230, stinks defensively, has no motivation, is injury prone, and got passed on the depth chart by a 28-year old rookie. His only value is he can occasionally jack one out of the park. There are dozens of backup catchers I would take over him.

I would not blame Beltran.

He was suffering from stomach flu all day (i.e. nausea, etc.). I can imagine that swinging the bat is difficult with those symptoms.

Given that Jerry was aware of this and that Jerry was sitting so many starters, I am surprised that Beltran was not one of them.

There isn't anything to say about this game. We came out with a 4-A team and tried to be one of the best pitchers in the NL. It was nice to see Martinez have a solid game against a very good pitcher. I hope he can settle in and help this team out. Looking forward to taking the series tomorrow with a rested line up.

He ddnt say Castro was a solid catcher. He said he is a solid backup which is 100% true. There arent many backup catchers you can name that are better than him.

With that said, I prefer Santos.

I feel for the fans who paid to see this squad when they probably bought tickets earlier in the season. I understand the move by Jerry, but it's off-putting. As a displaced fan it was kind of nice to not have to worry about a win though, and if they did it'd be a very pleasant surprise.

I agree Figgy should be back! Guy can't seem to catch a break sometimes. He always seems to give you 6IP 3ER which is text book for a quality #5.

What happens when everyone gets healthy though? Pagan HAS to stay right? I like his energy and quite frankly, he looks like a ballplayer out there.

In all fairness, I'd just as much rather watch Perez pitch to a 9+ ERA than Redding. At least Perez has the potential to be great. What's the deal with Ollie's knee? I thought that injury was supposed to be an excuse to get him to the minors? Let's hurry him back and get him pitching well again!

In what universe is Ramon Castro a "solid" catcher? He stinks.
