I wonder who is more delicate, Ben Sheets or Chris Carpenter. I seriously doubt Sheets will sign with anyone but Texas since they’ve invested so much time into helping him and they seem to be contending.

A lot of what if’s in my scenario but IF JJ can pitch a little better attracting interest from teams with the need for a closer and IF Billy Wagner can come back good enough to be the setup man or even the 7th inning man, I would use Putz and Niese as part of a package to get a top starter. If that doesn’t work, then I like the idea of Sheets over Pedro. Pedro has never proven he can stay healthy. Why chuck him 3 million to go only 5-6 innings a start and kill our pen. I would rather give a top starter a shot with a team option so that if he works out the Mets get more than just a rental and if Sheets gets hurt again, they can let him go.

Whatever happens, NO PEDRO.

If the Mets are shopping for a starter, then there’s no OP coming back…at least they’re not planning on it….and not in the way that you’d hope

Assets as of dollars? I doubt that’s going to be the issue if there’ll be one. My bigger concern is “…would not indicate how Sheets is doing in his rehab” What does that mean? What agent would not talk up his client in the biggest baseball market in the world? This doesn’t sound very kosher…Sheets may simply not be ready…

What is going on with Pedro? I wonder if he could be had for a cheaper price now that he’s seen that no one’s interested in what he’s asking.

I do expect OP back, which would kick Redding to the ‘pen, which leaves Livan without a chair when the music stops.

Thing is, a month from now is a long time . . . will Livan begin to fade? Will OP be “back” of the same Jeckyl/Hyde?

I think this is worth investigating. Always better to have a surplus of starters. If everyone is pitching well, we move Livan to the ‘pen and move Redding to the minors, comeup with some kind of injury for him, the usual skullduggery.

oh please no. The last time the Sheets topic came up and everyone was clambering for him, he got injured–of course. Plus, with recent trade of Castro for pitching and uncertainty at first and even in the outfield (and you never know how long Schneider will be healthy)…let’s save some assets in case they’re needed.

I’m thinking that if his agent declined to pump his client’s prospects that is not a positive sign about the rehab. I wonder if Pedro is still an option for the Mets.
