true enough. The biggest issue is the Braves and not the Pirates anyway. Mclouth is a very good CF. Maybe 2nd in the NL to Beltran. He makes a weak offensive team in Atlanta more formidable. Not worried just yet but Atlanta is in this year for the long haul and Mclouth makes it more serious of a threat

Glad we will miss him in game 4 but not happy he is in the division. He is the type of player the Mets should get. Fiery, talented yet humble.

Exactly my thought starz.

At first I was really concerned about this trade and though I think McLouth is a solid player, I don’t think he’s a great player. His .250-.260 batting average is the proof of that. Now I’d hate to see Omar overreact to this and possibly a pitching move for the Phillies. Our own Ryan Church can have as much impact as a Holliday without the cost of talent and $$.
The Mets as a healthy ball club are capable of going far into the post season. The focus should be on making sure this squad is primed for a late summer burst instead of a burnout. A utility player like DeRosa I think will help while trading for a guy like Holliday will create as much holes in the organization as it will fill.

Exactly, and they get to bring up their prized pitching prospect to “fill out their rotation”. Hanson doesnt have to be the front line guy just yet, even though he may pitch like one. It’s not a situation where like with Jordan Zimmerman,you have to be THE guy right from the get go. Hanson is in a great situation.

Adding Mclouth is a huge improvment in CF as well. They went from a rookie who they just demoted to an all-star and probably was the best hitter on the Pirates.

Not a bad pickup for the Braves, but they really aren’t gaining on the defensive side. Mclouth is a better hitter, but he is not anywhere near the defensive player Shafer is. As far as Hanson goes he maybe pitcing lights out in AAA but he hasn’t impressed against Major League talent. Most teams hit him fairly well in spring training (including the Mets) at a time when the pitchers are generally ahead of the hitters so I don’t think the kid is ready quite yet.

Good for the Braves. It shows they’re willing to spend. Does anyone remember how close they were to trading for Peavy? Atlanta’s one of the few places he’d probably be delighted to have gone to also, since he’s from nearby Alabama, and it’s in the NL. It wouldn’t suprise me if that eventually happens. Instead of a deal being built around Escobar, as previously proposed, it could be around Shafer, who apparently won’t be the CF for the Braves. This trade will make the division a little tighter, but they still don’t have enough to take over the division. At this point though, if the Mets can’t, I’d love to see the Braves win it, over the Phillies, especially if it meant the Phillies don’t make the postseason. Being a diehard Mets fan growing up as a teenager in the late 90′s/early 2000′s, I never thought I’d say that.

Wow….great move by the Braves. They just made a significant upgrade to their lineup (Schafer to Mclouth) and soon they will be bringing up Tommy Hansen who may just be a stud from the get-go. His AAA stats this year are sick. Don’t discount the Braves. They may just have the best pitching in the division. Derek Lowe would sure look great in a Mets uni right now. =P

Braves made an interesting move. McLouth is a good player that I feel that continue to improve. In addition, I heard that Hanson is great pitcher. It is likely that phils will make a top-notch pitcher trade soon with that Omar would not make any top-notch player move. Honestly, we are bare in a fatm. Holliday is a rental with billy beane wants tons of prospects so trading with the A’s make no sense. I would go for Comoma from the Indians or other pitcher rather than a hitter.
