News: Tonight’s Game has been Rained Out
By Matthew Cerrone - Jun 3, 2009 5:43 pm

Update, 7:43 pm:

Tonight’s game will be replayed on July 2 at 12:35 pm, which had been a scheduled off day for the Mets, between a three-game series in Milwuakee and a three-game series with the Phillies.

Original Post:

Tonight’s game between the Mets and Pirates at PNC Park has been rained out.

According to SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt, on Twitter, though no make-up game has been announced, there will not be a double-header tomorrow.

…frankly, i am thrilled… i feel like this team could use an early night, a good dinner, and some rest… just get away from the ballpark, guys, clear your minds and get back at it tomorrow afternoon

    Best news all day, LOL!!

This also gives the opportunity for the team to skip Redding’s start, which I hope they do. With the way this guy is pitching, you really need to limit the starts he gets.

This changes of course if they feel Johan would be best served by getting an extra day of rest.

I think I’d rather keep Johan on turn and skip Redding. When Tim Redding takes the mound, it’s pretty much a guaranteed loss, so it makes sense to avoid that at all costs.

what about the SNY crew, they still going to be there?

Thank God for the rain out. Team could use it. This way no one can get hurt tonight.

Famous last words……this team will find a way. Reyes hurt his leg somewhere at 35,000 feet above Nebraska……I don’t count anything out.

      Taxi crash, anyone?

I, too, am thrilled with this news. Built in day-off for Sheff, who desperately needs it (2 days if he doesn’t start tomorrow, which wouldn’t surprise me). One more day for Beltran to get his strength back (it’s amazing how much better the lineup looks with him in there). As has been mentioned, there’s the possibility of skipping Redding, or else giving everyone an extra day of rest (which has to be like choosing between lobster and caviar for Jerry). And, with any luck, it’s one fewer game we have to play without Reyes (and possibly Delgado, depending on when they reschedule for).

The rainout definitely helps the players. The only problem I as a fan have with the rainout is that now there is nothing on TV tonight.

agreed. glad there’s no doubleheader….many of the mets would not have been able to play two games in a day (sheffield, beltran, castillo, santos, cora) and we would most likely send out two depleted lineups again. Let them have a day of rest and then hopefully by the second, we’ll have a lineup close to full strength.
