For a complete recap, boxscore and stats, click here.

The Least You Should Know:

  • Livan Hernandez was stellar this afternoon, shutting out the Nationals through seven innings and 116 pitches. He allowed just four hits and lowered his ERA to 3.88.
  • The Mets got started early in this one, plating five in the first inning before Hernandez took the mound.
  • Ryan Church returned from the disabled list to go 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
  • Fernando Martinez scored two runs despite going just 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI.

Other Observations and Notes:

  • Daniel Murphy had two solid opposite field hits – something he has had trouble doing over the past month.
  • The team played loose from the outset despite the continued lapses on the base paths with Brian Schneider getting in on the act during the eighth inning.
  • On the road trip, David Wright hit .450 going 9-for-20 with four doubles and four RBI. He struck out just once during that stretch.

The Mets open a three game series on Tuesday Night at Citi Field against the Phillies with Johan Santana facing J.A. Happ, starting at 7:10 pm.

News: Maine has Tightness in Shoulder

by Michael Baron on June 7th, 2009 at 7:47 am

John Maine told reporters after last night’s game that he still felt tightness in the area where doctors removed a bone spur from his throwing shoulder last season.

However, while not discounting the potential of an injury with Maine, Jerry Manuel told David Lennon of Newsday that his decreased velocity could be attributed to a period of “dead arm”.

For more on Maine, check out Lennon’s blog.
