Not only that, but those are the kind of teams that have killed the Mets the past few years. Man it would have been nice if he had pitched in the last Pirate series.

I can't get too worried about who lasts how long in the playoffs yet. Having seen Maine already pitch in October he is the least of my worries right now, other than being healthy.

If the Mets could get a big time starter to pair with Santana yes I would do it, but the chances are slim that a team is going to give that up. And really for it to make a difference for the Mets we are talking about getting a 1 to co-ace with Santana ala the Diamondbacks with Schilling and Johnson. Santana and generic decent 7 inning guy is not going to make the Mets a big contender. Santana and (Peavy, Oswalt, Lee, etal maybe)

From April 25 through June 4 (7 GS), Pelfrey WAS a #2 starter: 3-1, 2.96 ERA, Mets 6-1 in those starts

From April 27 to May 31 (7 GS), Maine was just even better than Pelfrey: 5-1, 2.36 ERA, Mets 5-1 in those starts

Each guy had one bad outing, and all of a sudden they are horrible? Even worse, you want to trade them?

This site is full of horrible wannabe GMs...

Last time I checked, a win against the Nats or Bucs counts the same as a win against the Phils.

It might just be me... but doesn't it feel like Livan only pitches well against teams like the Nats, Fish, Bucs, and Giants?
Against real competition like the Phils I am afraid he will get shelled.

My sense is that selling Pelfry or Maine now is selling low. More Maine than Pelf. Yet the logic of turning a young controllable mostly good results pitcher into a better pitcher at more cost but with more consistency is likely a good option.

Halladay is one excellent option but he is likely not being floated. Peavy is another but he will likely not come to a big city like NY. I think Oswalt is past his best and I would not trade Pelfrey straight up for him considering what the next 3 years of Oswalt are likely to be and what the next 3 years of Oswalt are likely to be.

Im for adjusting the rotation with deals but dont see this as the major need of the team right now.

They need a legitimate bat to put somewhere.

Time to trade Murphy, Church and Neise for Carlos Lee and let the outfield be Beltran, Fmart and Lee for this year

I think you are half right. I think a 2 or 3 starter on a playoff caliber team should be able to go 7 innings. Pelfrey has done it 4 times, Livan 3, Santana 6, Maine 0. Maine is not a 2

It's funny how Livan Hernandez, who is a little bit overweight, is always in perfect health and never goes on the DL and can throw 140 pitches with ease. Yet his brother, who was always in top physical muscular condition, couldn't stay on the field to save his life.

Pelfrey and Maine had both been pitching very good for the better part of a month plus time, they each terrible outings this week and we are going to bury them? Come on, talk about a knee jerk reaction.

Hernandez has been very good, healthy and down weight. He has also pitched well against the Braves in Atlanta and against the Dodgers in LA.

Livan is the perfect # 4 or 5 pitcher. He just goes out and tosses 6+ inninge per start, better than anyone on the team not named Santana.

That being said, Pelfrey & Maine are not pitching like the 2-3 starters they are supposed to be. Moving one of them and a prospect for an upgrade would make a lot of sense, because Livan has earned his spot in the rotation and replacing him would not give us value in return.
