I don’t understand how the Wilpons don’t see this as a major issue considering these people are handling their $140M investment. If I took my car to a mechanic and it continued to break down, then I’d find a new mechanic. No?

I hope he gets past it and starts to show the consistency because he has the talent but it’s frustrating for the team to lean so heavily on players where their dependability is in question. Besides Maine, signing Perez instead of Lowe (where Lowe’s main attribute is dependability), and bringing Delgado back thinking that he was going to give us a full season like the 2nd half of 2008, giving him a chunk of money and being aware that he has a questionable hip.

When these guys go down, which can’t be a surprise, we don’t have much payroll flexibility to get solid replacements. And we’re left rolling out a team in June like we had yesterday and expect to win consistently.

I think dykstraw brought this up yesterday, but a lot of fans seem to be feeling a general malaise about the team. Like, yes we’re all watching and rooting, but does anyone really expect anything out of this particular squad of Mets? Therefore, battling and playing hard become more of an acceptable alternative to winning, and when we win, it’s something of a pleasant surprise. Well, maybe it’s not quite that bad. Yet.
