To change gears a little bit, if the Mets can stay within striking distance of the Phils (no more than 3 games back), they will be in a very good position as they get their guys back. They may have been playing fairly well lately, but it goes without saying that they are better with Delgado, Reyes, and yes, even Perez. As long as they can keep it close, they have every chance to go on a nice run in August/September, particularly if they can get back guys like Putz and Wagner to reinforce the pen. I don’t know if Parnell has the stamina to last the whole season while being on top of his game, so those two will be key….Lets go Mets!

Mets are getting all the mileage they can from Sheff. He is a legit threat and we don’t have many!
Let’s face it, over the next few weeks the Orioles, Indians, Royals, Nationals, Padres, Rockies, Diamondbacks and perhaps the Marlins (to name a few) will look to dump some big contracts.
I remember a road trip in 1969 when the Mets were humiliated in The Dome (as usual) and the nah sayers began to doubt the miracle run.
Don’t give up my friends! It’s baseball, man…

just started pouring in S> Jersey. if this tracks toward Queens, this game will at minimum be delayed.

And if it is a wet field, even more reason to sit Sheff.

Tatis is batting in .238 against lefties and Murphy is slightly better than that. Granted that it’s a small sample size but I don’t get the push to keep Tatis in the line-up everyday. Murphy needs to play regularly to see if he’s a full-time player after this season. We already know what Tatis is. Also, Sheff needs to sit, lefty or no lefty. He’s 40, already looks run down and just isn’t hitting. Hopefully he’ll pick it back up DHing a number of games coming up but we’re asking too much of him right now and he just isn’t hitting.

If it wasn’t for the fact that they don’t want Tatis at 1b every day, I’d say there’s no reason for Murphy to even be on the team at this point. Are they really going to miss his .240 batting average and his nightly error? He should be playing everyday in Triple A where he can actually learn a position b/c at this pace, he’s never going to be a good fielder and might as well be a piece used in a deal with an American League team. I do have my doubts he can ever field a position well enough to stay in the National League.
I’m not so sure Reed would be any worse at first and, this is just my opinion, but I think Reed is better than both Church and Murphy if given the opportunity to play regularly.

With Sheffield batting ahead of him, Wright essentially has been leading off more innings than not lately.

Why is Murphy not starting an issue when two lefties were on the mound?

And Sheffield is facing 6 straight DH games in NY and Baltimore, so he can be pushed. Better to try to get the bat heated up again.

And why are the Mets opposed to Carlos being on Twitter? That makes no sense to me!
