I can’t believe we’ve made Moyer look so good in the past. He’s the real life Eddie Harris. I would not be surprised to learn that he wipes snot on the ball.

Looks like the middle of the order eats him up though. I hope that Tatis bats .380 instead of .38. This would be a great time for some home cooking from the Sheff!

  2. jimyager says:

I am affraid to watch tonight. Moyer is as old as the hills, and, when he pitches against the METS he looks like TY COBB. Redding was let go by the NATS, need I say more? I am affraid that we are in for a long and hard night. I think that PEDRO would be better tonight than REDDING. LETS GO METS !!!

    • steadyeddie says:

was the Georgia Peach a pitcher?
or do ya mean Cy Young
      his younger cousin, once removed!
      Matt just said it;
      if your gonna trade;
pitchin’, pitchin and some more pitchin’
      right on Mr Cerron-ee

  3. ravi3 says:

    …Damn those Philadephia Reddings!

  4. shinjosplints17 says:

This seem odd to start F-mart tonight, Moyer feast on young eager hitters. It’s 1-1 right now, I have no faith the Mets will win tonight. We don’t win third games or rubber matches of series. God speed boys

  5. cousinrk says:

I just don’t get how Murphy doesn’t get any starts this series. He’s hit lefties this year and its not like there are phenomenal options. Tatis hasn’t done anything, you gotta give Murph a start here. They have to be killing the kids confidence, might as well send him down and get him AB’s there if they aren’t going to play him

  6. shinjosplints17 says:

The D is such a joke, Wright making errors Sheff can’t get to moon-shot fly ball in shallow left. Now Utley knocks in Rollins. He never even should have been on base, 6th,7th and 8th inning are coming this is where they move past us.

  7. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Battle of the bullpens now. The question is, can the offense get a big hit?

  8. shinjosplints17 says:

waiting for the other shoe to drop…

  9. ericloz says:

Come on guys, hold them in the top of the 9th, and win it on a walk off.

  10. ericloz says:

Come on David, do something late for a change…

    One swing wins it.

  11. ericloz says:

Tell me again why we didn’t sign him?

  12. dykstraw says:

    that’s what raul said

  13. kd bart says:

Major difference between the two teams. The Phillies have a lineup in which 5-6 spots can produce a home run at anytime. The Mets, only Beltran and Wright.

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

I’d say the biggest difference is that the phillies are clutch and are good finishers while the mets are the complete opposite

  14. jimyager says:

This team is just plain awful. Another come from ahead loss, that makes two in a row now, and, against the Phillies. We had a chance to gain some ground and as always, we blow it. This team will ALWAYS break your heart and let you down. Why are we fans of this team? Why do we care so much? Now the real pain can start, 3 against the Yankees. Lets see if we can go 2-4 and limp home to lick our wounds. Good game. Keep up the good work.

  15. SantanaCYYOung says:

where is the next win coming? This might be the start of a long losing streak and having delgado or reyes would not have made any difference this team is made up of a bunch of choke artists

    • ericloz says:

Why do you waste your time watching them if you believe they are ‘choke artists’?

Why am I wasting my time responding?

The Mets will win tomorrow and Sunday.

They might even surprise a few people if Maine can find that fastball he lost in Pitt.

      • ericloz says:

I take back my Maine on Saturday comment.

        Rainout anyone?

What’s the weather report for Saturday?

never mind I don’t want to know.

  16. SantanaCYYOung says:

We should be sellers not buyers if delgado and putz are back healthy trade them

  17. DonGately says:

Also, the Phillies would not put a guy who lefties hit .440 against in to face 3 really excellent lefties in a row.

  18. Gasface77 says:

I am usually optimistic and I am not one of the “jump off the bridge types,” but these types of losses hurt me more than the ones where they look like little leaguers. We should have swept this series against the Phillies. What you learn from this is why they have beat us out the past two seasons.

These three games have been great, the Mets have showed heart, pitched good and played pretty sound, however, we are on the losing end once again. Remember 1999 and 2000 when the Mets ALWAYS won these games?

    • ericloz says:

I also remember the previous 40 years where we were worse then this, at least the games are exciting, interesting and fun to watch until the bitter end.

We have a very good ballclub that is fun to watch, yes it’s heartwrenching when we can’t get a clutch hit or solid innings from decent relievers and lose it in the end.

It’s the nature of the team to break the fan’s hearts, no matter who or what they do.

I can guarentee that Ibanez will not be playing like that if he signed w/ the Mets.

He is feasting on the leftovers from the other 4 very good batters in that line-up. He is surrounded and protected by some decent people and is enjoying it very much.

That is what we are missing w/ Reyes and Delgado out, we don’t have depth and protection up and down the line-up. One good bat @ the d/l and Reyes back, and we’ll see a different line-up.

it’s not easy to score 6 runs every night when no one hits a 3 run homerun.

      • kd bart says:

Exactly. The threat of the long ball is the big thing in late and/or extra innning games. The Mets just don’t have much of a threat. You could see it in the ninth. The Phillies pitched carefully to Wright, because he was a true threat, and he chased a 2-0 slider and got himself out. Tatis and F-Mart were no threat to them. Truly, there was no threat again until Beltran was due up.

        • ericloz says:

that’s right, Omar needs to pull the trigger and get another bat, someone who is a deep threat.

Who that person is and what will it take? Omar knows.

  19. kd bart says:

100% healthy Phillie lineup against a Met team that is missing 50% of its’ core. The Phillies just have a lot more consistent firepower than the Mets do. The Mets are having to depend on guys like Sheffield, Tatis and Martinez. Guys who at this point in their different careers are just not consistent every day offensive threats.

  20. metsfan1 says:

The Mets are as good as the Phillies. They are missing 2 major offensive weapons and a solid setup man and we played them tough. We easily could have swept but probably should have taken 2. Last night really hurts because they left so many men on base. You could kind of see tonight coming. 1 run here or there but not much offense. They have so many HR hitters you knew it was just when and not if and when Manuel brought in Takahashi (what was he thinking by the way) I knew they lost.

The major difference between these teams is Philly makes up for its offensive problems with HR’s. Their BA is not great nor is their OBP but they convert when they get the chance with HR’s. Consider the Mets were out homered 8-3 in this series and won a game and lost 2 in extra innings.

Manuel pulled a Willie. Why is it obvious to all of the fans and announcers that Takahashi is terrible against lefties. Why was Parnell taken out? Because he has given up 1 HR in over 100 batters and that batter is up next. I’ll take a 97mph pitcher any day over a meatball pitcher.

  21. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Wright is hitting over .600 over the past 7 games, but all it seems he is doing is hitting leadoff singles. It might make sense to have him hit #3 if he is going to stick with this high batting average opposite field approach. No sense keeping him in the 5th spot with this approach.

    • methead says:

I thought the same thing. With that said, its not his fault no one is on in front on him. That Gary looks like an over the hill player now.

Though your thought process is interesting, I think its a suttle dig at Wright again. Wright could have won the game yesterday with that hit. He is not the reason for the offensive woes.

If there is no underlying dig there, I apologize.

      • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

Not a dig. I prefer him taking this approach as opposed to taking uppercuts and trying to do too much. The underlying dig is probably directed at Jerry. He should change things up a bit.

  22. methead says:

first off, you can argue parnell in that spot if you want. At some point, you have to hit. You can’t pitch parnell and Rodriguez everyday. This game is on the offense for not coming up with a big hit. It also all came down to 1 pitch…the hanger a terrific Redding threw in the 7th. I knew at that point if they tied it, we were going to lose. I thought Parnell should have been in the game in the 7th after the first runner got on.

This is a loss, you can’t win them all. Yesterday was a more hurtful loss because that game we SHOULD have won. This one? It was anyone’s game.

  23. huge_mets_fan11 says:

People need to calm down and take a deep breathe. Yes I am pissed that we lost but I am not ready to throw in the towel yet. First of all, If it wasn’t for one great catch we would of taken 2/3 from them. Second we are still only 4 games back and that may seem like a lot but it is still way too early in the season. Third I guarantee that Omar will make a deal for a big hitter in the coming weeks. I think these 3 games would of been a lot different if we did have that big hitter. So lets not jump of the bridge quiet yet fellow Mets fans.

    • ericloz says:

I’ve been a Met’s fan since 73, it’ll take a lot more then the current events to push me off the edge. I remember the mid eighty’s and all those games with the east leading Cards.

I still hate Terry freaking Templeton.
