The Mets have promoted LHP Jon Switzer from Triple-A Buffalo.
Switzer was 0-2 with a 2.13 ERA with Buffalo.
In case you are wondering, left-handed hitters were batting .186 against Switzer in the minor leagues.
Lastly, the Mets announced that Fernando Nieve will start Saturday against the Yankees in place of Maine.

Has anyone notice that Darren O’Day is itching very well for Texas. That was a big Omar screw up
nothing the Mets could really do to keep him at the beginning of the year. more power to him.
big omar screw up? Come on. He was the one who took him in the first place. There was just no room and he was not performing at the time. He had to be returned to the Angels.
interesting strategy. looking at his career stats, he can clearly get lefties out. but he has given up a concerning amount of HRs to lefties. something to keep an eye on. good luck, switz.
I believe Gary, Keith, & Ron were commenting on the broadcast last night (for the second night in a row, in fact) about how Manuel might consider going to Nieve to get out the big bats in the Philly lineup if he’d already used Feliciano earlier. The reason they gave was because all the lefty boppers on the Phillies are low ball hitters and that Nieve throws a lot of high fastballs.
Is it just me, or if Nieve throws high fastballs and is off with them even a little, that the Yankees will destroy him tomorrow. I’m thinking he could give up 7 runs in 3 innings.
Well, certainly that ballpark is not forgiving. Hopefully we win tonight’s game and then with Santana going on Sunday, tomorrow’s game won’t be a must win.
It is astounding that a team with a $150 million payroll has to go to battle with Fernando Nieve on the mound.
Think of who the Red Sox can turn to when starters get hurt: Justin Masterson, Clay Bucholz, Michael Bowden, John Smoltz.
All four of those guys would probably be the No. 3 starter on the Mets. That’s the way to run a team.
I assume your point is that the Red Sox, as a high-payroll team, use that payroll to provide depth…yet 3 of the 4 guys you just mentioned are prospects/minor leaguers. In other words, no correlation whatsoever.
I don’t know how you expect a GM to build a team that trots out quality major league starters even when they are down to their 7th and 8th options. Actually, Nieve has a decent amount of ML service, and based on how far down he is on the depth chart Omar did well to have him here.
Damn, I was hoping we would call up another Jose to go with out three Fernandos and two Carloses.
I think it’s time to add another Carlos. Omar should be looking into Mr. Lee at this point. If we get him, and Delgado and Reyes ever come back, we’ve got…
Reyes
Beltran
Wright
Delgado
Lee
Church
Santos
Castillo
Pitcher
Carlos Lee would be great. I wanted Omar to get him when he was a free agent back in the 2006 offseason.
I am dreaming of the day we can field a team with a Carlos, Jose, or Fernando at every position, except third. How about this- only requires a few tweaks:
Jose (Reyes): SS
Jose (Lopez): 2B
Carlos (Beltran): CF
Carlos (Delgao): 1B
David Wright: 3B
Fernando (Tatis): LF
Fernando (Martinez): RF
Jose (Molina): C
Fernando (Nieves): P
In that case Wright has to change his name to Diego.
I am sorry… who is Nieve?
haha…i dont blame ya.
Nieve = Loss
What would the Sox want for Brad Penny?
In case anyone was wondering, Jon Switzer was a Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2001 2nd Round draft pick. So, at some point someone thought he had legitimate MLB potential.
He and Lance Broadway must have had alot to talk about down in Buffalo.
