No shortage of fan reactions these days, and at the blog Major League Jerk, they express how the Mets don’t just lose, they lose badly.
Disgruntled Mets Fan explains why he endures the suffering that is being a Mets fan.
Karel at On The Black video blogs about the roller coaster of emotions on his Twitter page.
…he did this before yesterday’s loss so i’m sure the roller coaster continued…
On a lighter note, TMZ.com shows how Mike Piazza and his wife did their best to graciously elude the paparazzi last week.
…those paps really ask the lamest questions…
Failed Mets prospect Geoff Goetz is interviewed at High & Tight, where they write, “The Mets had big plans for Geoff, signing him to a $1.7 million bonus. Geoff talks about the adjustment of being the Mets’ top prospect to suddenly being just a regular prospect in a Marlins organization incredibly deep with pitching.”
Finally, Oh Murph is giving away Mets tickets to the lucky winner of their contest.

Earlier today, former Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson was a guest of Brandon Tierney on 1050 ESPN Radio and said:
“Well, Santana is a major concern, obviously. I know it’s been reported he has a blister on his middle finger and that can certainly be a major, major detriment for a pitcher; and then there’s been some rumors that his knee has been bothersome. When you have a finger issue and then you have that knee issue like he had before you really have to be concerned… But, hopefully for the Mets and hopefully for Johan it’s temporary, hopefully it’s just a blister and a cranky knee and he bounces back after a few days rest.”

… rick pulled on another interesting point, which is, he has always let up fly balls, even in Minnesota… this is true… the thing is, those fly balls in a spring-time Citi Field might have all dropped for outs, while now, in a warmer, dead-air Citi Field, they may be carrying in to the gap or over the wall…
In a report for SI.com, Jon Heyman says, if the Nationals fire Manny Acta, Bobby Valentine may be among the possible replacements, according to a National League source.
Valentine is currently in his seventh season as manager of the Chiba Lotte Mariners in Japan, but is not expected to be hired back.
…this would break the hearts of lots of Mets fans, who, like me, would love to see him return to the Mets some day…
Heyman also reports on the trade market, the Indians plans, the market for starting pitcher, and other topics from around the league.
According to the Boston Globe, “The Red Sox
have fielded multiple calls and some offers for Brad Penny.”
The Dodgers, Mets and Phillies have all been linked in rumor to Penny so far this season.
Meanwhile, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, OF Jeremy Hermida is drawing a lot of interest from other teams, “but the offers haven’t been enticing.”
The 26–year-old Hermida is batting .276 with eight HR and 29 RBI in 63 games for the Marlins this season.
Hermida is arbitration eligible through 2011.
Jackson also reports that the Braves offered Jeff Francoeur to the Marlins for OF Cody Ross, but the Marlins turned it down.
This morning, on WFAN, Evan Roberts wondered if this would interest the Mets in swapping Ryan Church and a minor leaguer for Francoeur, who is eligible to be a free agent after 2011.
Francoeur is batting .250 with four HR and 29 RBI for the Braves.
…i don’t understand why frenchy would be a better or worse option that church… i mean, all these guys are around the same caliber player…
Meanwhile, the Indians are asking more and more for infielder Mark DeRosa with every day that passes, it seems, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The Indians have won seven of their last 11 games and are now six games out of first place.
The O’s will welcome the Mets this weekend in Baltimore.
According to Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com, the O’s are getting lots of interest in 1B-OF Aubrey Huff and Luke Scott.
…honestly, the sense i get is that the league is in lock down right now, with most teams waiting, watching and assessing their budgets and position in the league, and no trade is imminent… it sounds like no team is willing to take on serious money, yet few teams want to part with top prospects, except the Phillies… plus, there are only two, maybe three, teams who truly believe there is little chance they’ll make the playoffs… every one else still believes there is a chance, or, at least the chance of a run, which would keep fans interested enough to buy a few more tickets and stay tuned on TV…
…in other words, i really don’t think there will be a substantive up tick in trade rumors until after the All-Star break, which is a few weeks before the deadline…
…this is interesting, which comes courtesy of Modell’s:
“Modell’s Sporting Goods is looking for a dynamic duo of local Mets fans to represent the Mo’s Zone (sections 101 & 102 at Citi Field) for the remainder of the season! If you think you’ve got the chops, come to the Modell’s Sporting Goods store located in Queens Center Mall on Tuesday, June 16th, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. to show us what you’ve got. The first 20 duos to audition automatically win a pair of Mets tickets!”
…if you enter, good luck… and let us know how you do…
This morning, at Mets Minor League Blog, Toby
Hyde recaps all of yesterday’s Mets minor-league action, including a strong performance from 1B Nick Evans, who who was 2-5 with a double in a win for the Double-A Binghamton Mets; as well as SS Matt Bouchard, who was 3-4 with a double in a win for Single-A St. Lucie.
Evans is hitting .350 in his last 10 games for Binghamton, with six extra base hits and five RBI.
By the way, Toby Hyde was a guest on WFAN yesterday, during which he talked about the team’s prospects and recent draft.

Tagged Regis Courtemanche |Gary Sheffield told reporters on Saturday that he would have an MRI today in New York on his
right knee.
However, according to Evan Roberts on WFAN, Sheffield will not have an MRI.
Roberts said the Mets called WFAN earlier today to say Sheffield was never scheduled to get an MRI.
…jeeez… get… it… together… frankly, if he is on the Mets, likes the Mets, watches the Mets, whatever, he should have MRI, you should have an MRI, i should have an MRI, everybody should get an MRI…

Philadelphia needed a four run fifth inning and a six run seventh on Sunday to rally past Boston’s Josh Beckett and salvage the finale of its weekend series against the Red Sox, 11-6.
The Phillies allowed sixteen runs over their first two games.
The Orioles took it to Derek Lowe, pounding out seven runs on eight hits in just 2 1/3 innings on Sunday afternoon to clinch their series against the Braves, 11-2.
Atlanta’s lone win over the weekend came from rookie Tommy Hanson. It was his first career victory.
Ronny Paulino had four hits, including two home runs, and Josh Johnson pitched a complete game seven hitter on Sunday to put the cap on an impressive three game sweep by the Marlins.
Florida outscored the Toronto Blue Jays 24-11 in its three wins.
Washington was swept away by Tampa Bay as the Nationals defense fell apart and the bullpen collapsed once again.
The big news over the weekend, however, came from FoxSports.com who reported that Nationals manager Manny Acta would be fired this week.
Finally, in a bit of sad news, Washington placed Josh Willingham on the bereavement list Saturday after his younger brother was killed in a car accident earlier that morning in Alabama.
…Our thoughts and prayers go out to Josh and his family

The thing that troubles me most about Friday night’s loss, and, frankly, the repeated slip ups, mistakes and errors, is knowing that the last two seasons each came down to one game, any one loss, which could have staved off the Phillies and put Mets in the post season.
I fear the same will happen again…
For instance, who knows, maybe Friday night’s game, that one dropped pop up, ends up being the moment I look back on in November and wonder what might have been had Luis Castillo closed his glove.
Or, what might have happened had Ryan Church touched third base in the team’s one-run loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Or, what if Sean Green didn’t walk in the winning run against the Phillies during a game in early May.
Or, had Carlos Beltran slide in to home, or had Daniel Murphy not fallen to the ground on a fly ball, would the Mets have defeated the Cardinals in late April.
