Hiring Bobby wouldn't be moving backward at all. Its been long enough and Bobby's success has been substantial and continued. He took some pretty mediocre Met teams to the playoffs and has always had a penchant for getting the most of of his players and teams. I was disappointed when he was fired but I figured some times change needs to be made for the sake of change. I really can't think of a reason not to bring Bobby back. His personality clashes sometimes with veterans who feel they've earned a certain amount of status and respect but I feel like thats been a problem with recent Mets teams. The level of complacency is just too high. I want some one to push and make these players uncomfortable. If they can't handle it let them go. This team needs some fire and absolutely needs some one to come in and force them to play fundamentally sound ball.

I understand your point. Not that I put Valentine on this level, but I don't think the Blue Jays moved backwards bringing back Cito Gaston. The point is, it can work. I agree with the bench coach idea and the manager looking over his shoulder. And at the moment, I don't think that would be a bad thing. I know there have been a slew of injuries. I'm willing to let that part go, it happens. But Jerry Manuel, as I read on another blog, is managing the Mets right out of contention. He brought in Sean Green when he had no business being in pressure situation earlier in the year, he selectively ostracizes players (see Ryan Church), and gives passes to his boys (see Luis Castillo). This man has to go, along with the entire coaching staff and most of the front office if this team does not go deep into the playoffs. Making it isn't good enough.

Look, I love Bobby as much as the next Mets fan, but resigning him to manage just feels too much like moving backward instead of forward. I am no Jerry fan (he has pros and cons like everyone else, I just feel there are more cons), but I can't put everything on him with the slew of injuries we've endured. If we wanted him to be a bench coach I think it'd work, but how much would the current manage be looking over his shoulder....

All in all, kind of like Pedro, I just have to pass.
