Oh, I should have stated, this is pinning the hopes on Josh Thole, Ruben Tejada, etc. Murphy can be solid I think, maybe he can develop more. Nick Evans is a bench guy at best, and Fernando Martinez, while I know he didn't light the world up, is 20 years old and I'm willing to give him time to develop.

while I agree as well, 2012 is a long way away to wait for a winner.

Replacing Delgado, Sheffield, Castillo, catching, and the back of the rotation internally may not do anything but tread water in terms of the talent level.

Murphy, Evans, and Fernando Martinez aren't looking like the answers they appeared to be last winter.

Cora has done a surprisingly solid job of replacing Reyes as an everyday SS. That is in part because Jose wasn't having a very good season so far, but it is still kind of a shock. With the way the Mets record has been tied to Reyes scoring a run or not you would think the season should have been over with him missing a month or more.

I don't want to preach medicine when I don't really know, but it would seem that Reyes could push through a tendon tear easier than a muscle tear. It would seem more difficult to make that kind of tear rapidly worse. Think of all the pitchers who wear out elbow and shoulder ligaments, it doesn't happen overnight. Maybe he could play through it, and have surgery at the end of the season...

OK, it's time to get real. Please spare me the "not a real fan" grenades, it's weak and you know it. It's just not going to happen this year. Reyes probably isn't coming back this season, Delgado is questionable, the coaching is a joke, the medical staff can't get out of their own way, and Jerry Manuel is a lovable loser. The tide is shifting in baseball and the Mets need to take notice. The old days of spend, spend, spend, to win championships are gone. Championship teams build from within and Omar and the Mets need to catch on to that. First and foremost, get Reyes right. No Jerry Manuel, Reyes at 80% is not better than most at 100%. Either he's there or he isn't. And he's not. Get him right. Secondly, NO BIG MOVES, no "power bat." Set yourself up for the future and do not sell the farm. Maybe I'm wrong but I think the team has a chance to be very solid for the forseeable future and to risk that on a season that is lost is madness.

none, if omar believes this team could do something this year he MUST overpay for a hitter, if he doesn't the season is done anyway

AND livan, nieve and redding are not going to keep this up all year

I think Beltran is okay he said that just wants to make sure that he is not making his injury worse which is fine and as for reyes i'm not sure where he is but i'm sure they have a close eye on him and i would not trade reyes i feel that when he comes back he would be a great boost to this offense. I do like Cora but he does not have the range reyes has and once reyes comes back cora can spot castillo at 2nd who needs some days off because of his knees.

I think the Mets need to find a way to get Jose healthy by the end of the year, and really start entertaining trades for the guy. There just always seems to be "something" that's going to keep him from being a top player, whether it be his head, his injuries or what not. While he's been out, I don't think the Mets have struggled offensively because they've missed Reyes at the top of the line-up. A defensively solid contact hitter would do the trick. The Mets need to add thump from either 1B or the corner outfield spots and I think they'll be fine, and I wonder if Reyes can net you a player like that.
