if we lose Beltran, it would take a stone cold miracle to make the playoffs.

Well, that or the return of absolutely healthy and crushing Reyes and Delgado. Which in itself sounds more and more like a miracle.

"the perceived lack of communication between players, trainers and management is becoming quite alarming"

Becoming? Really? Matt I know you are an optimist but the communication has been an absolute mess for years...not becoming...IS alarming.

Why would you rather have Holiday than Dunn? Holiday is a free agent rental who will cost a ton to retain. Dunn is under control for the rest of this season and next at a reasonable rate! Dunn who plays in Washington (which is not a small park by any means) has hit 18 HR's and walked 55 times compared with 33 for Holiday. Not too mention Dunn has absolutely crushed two of the longest HR's in CItifield! Dunn outslugs, and has a better OBP than Holiday. Yes Holiday does hit for a higher average, but with far less power. We got two guys right now in the top five in B.A. in Wright and Beltran where has it gotten us in Citifield? We need a bat GUARANTEED to crush it out of Citi on a regular basis, we need that instant offense factor in the line-up period! We don't even know if Holiday can even get one out in Citi? Yes Dunn's defense is not stellar, but frankly we need offense of the instant variety like Delgado produced, and imagine when Delgado comes back, oh the line-up that would be.

If Beltran misses any significant time and someone like Dunn is still expensive, I think the Mets should become sellers at the deadline. I know it's hard with the new stadium and all, but I think that's what you gotta do. Guys like Church and Castillo and Livan and Sheff might be able to bring some kind of prospect back from a contender, though we might have to pay part of Castillo's salary.

I dunno, the Mets are in a bad place. They don't really have the pieces to be buyers or sellers. The problem is that they have this great core, but everyone around it is very mediocre.

there is only a handful of players that i personally would trade fmart for, and holliday IS one of them...theres more to it then just numbers...hes an aggressive, tough player who has power, steals bases, and will hit around .300...he resembles Wright alot in fact, and i know everyone will say coors field blah blah blah..hes playing in that coliseum in oakland and that thing is huge and he still has 8 bombs and 40 RBI i believe...u gotta figure his numbers will go up in a better lineup and also he will get to play in citizens bank 10 times a season...fmart is a mystery...he can be the next wright/reyes or he can be the next milledge/escobar...id be willing to take a chance and trade him for holliday..but only if its fmart and avg prospects..if its fmart and another top prospect...im not sure i would do that just because thats alot to give up for any player

AndrewMichaelZ : We know fully well that Holiday would be a rental but with each passing day and his less-than-stellar stats, the prospect price goes down significantly. With that, expensive seats to fill and the mediocrity of the teams in contention, the Mets can't sit by and watch a Triple A lineup continue to give us all agita. Look what Manny did for the Dodgers last year. Is Holiday Manny? No. But we'd rather him than Adam Dunn or Aubrey Huff - even for a half season... Delgado and Putz are on schedule. Wagner is throwing and Maine and Perez are pitching today - so how are they wild cards? Reyes is the one we should be concerned with most. He's afraid to run.

Everyone keeps saying "Omar go get someone" like its so simple. Fact is the other person has to want to make a trade. Truth is, it may take Fernando Martinez and at least another top prospect (and Niese or evans are not top prospects) to get Holliday.

So if Reyes and Delago dont come back or come back not as good....do we want to trade away all that for a player thats not going to make us a world series team?? Not so sure.

Holiday is not the one guy that is certain, but it is hard to say unless ohter GMs show their cards if there is not a deal worth making.

The key is Reyes, and they need to get an MRI on that tendon soon, if it has not healed at all then making a move is risky, but if he is able to get back a move can absolutely push this sore offense to a different level, then if and when Delgado gets back you see what happens.

But this team if the right deal unearths itself absolutely should be prepared to make a trade, especially if Reyes can get back.
