According to multiple reports, Carlos Beltran is scheduled to have MRI on his knee today.
Yesterday, according to MLB.com, Beltran told reporters he feels a sharp pain in his knee when he runs full speed, saying:
“I don’t feel I can play a lot of games the way it felt today. I’m a little bit worried, to be honest.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, Mets GM Omar Minaya told reporters Jose Reyes did some running before the game.
Yesterday, however, Reyes said he hasn’t run, nor as he fielded ground balls, adding, “I worry about running,
that’s the key.”
…the perceived lack of communication between players, trainers and management is becoming quite alarming…
Instead, Reyes took swings in the batting cage, and said he did not feel any pain.
To read quotes from Reyes, check out Kristie Ackert’s report in the Daily News.
…as i said over the weekend, i believe the Mets are working jose back slowly, rehabbing the tendon, but surgery has not yet been taken off of the table… and, until it is, i’ll remain worried…
Jeff, of Amazin Avenue, does an interview with his cousin, Joey August, who will play for Single-A Brooklyn this summer.
August was drafted by the Mets in the 20th round this year.
Meanwhile, in a post to Mike’s Mets, Dave Mills creates a few lists for the Mets, such as ‘Three Best Hitters,’ ‘Three Mets Who Need More Playing Times,’ and ‘Three Worst Minaya Moves.’
Greg Prince leads off a post to Faith and Fear in Flushing by writing, “It’s getting so bad that I’m beginning to think Brian Schneider deserves to be traded to a contender.”
In a post to the Eddie Kranepool Society, Steve gives his two cents on the bullpen, and the recent light bulb over Jerry Manuel’s head, while Rob Harding of Hot Foot asks Manuel to ‘spread it around.’
John of Metstradamus adds Pat Burrell to taxes and death, as the three things that are certain in life.
Lastly, Taryn of My Summer Family coins the phrase Post-Traumatic Mets Disorder, or ‘PTMD.’

This morning, at Mets Minor League Blog, Toby Hyde recaps all of yesterday’s Mets minor-league action, including strong performances from RHP Jeurys Familia, who allowed only one run in over six innings of work, and SS Wilmer Flores who went 3-4 with a double in a win for Single-A Savannah.
RHP Nelson Figueroa went eight strong innings for Buffalo yesterday, allowing only one run and striking out eight.
In 13 starts this season, Familia is 5-4 with a 3.08 ERA.
Over his last ten games, Flores is 14-38 for a .389 average and has seen his average raise 20 points over that span. He is now hitting .273

Last week on SI.com, Jon Heyman listed the Mets behind the Cubs, Angels, Dodgers and Rays as teams who are likely to sign Pedro Martinez.
However, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times believes, though the Angels scouted Martinez last Friday, they have ‘no interest’ in pursuing him due to ‘baseball reasons, not financial ones.’
According to Shaikin, citing baseball sources, “Martinez’s fastball was clocked most often in the 85-mph range.”
Shaikin reports the Dodgers are not interested in Martinez as well, and have not discussed him since spring training.
Martinez held a workout last Friday in the Dominican Republic, though there are questions as to whether he ever attended, and which teams stayed to watch, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
…for what it’s worth, i find zero evidence the Mets attended martinez’s supposed workout… i really don’t think they have much interest in bringing him back, mostly due to the money…
…the buzz around baseball suggests martinez is seeking around $2.5 million, to essentially pitch for two months…
According to Buster Olney, in a post to his blog last week for ESPN.com, the Mets can add roughly $5 million to their payroll.
Tagged Pedro Martinez |The Mets have lost eight of their last 11 games.
“We’re not doing too many things right,” David Wright said, following yesterday’s loss to the Rayes. “When you look at the standings, we’re in striking distance, but we’re concerned about how we’re playing right now.”
Fortunately, The Phillies went 1-8 on their just-completed home-stand.
“We’ll be fine,” Shane Victorino said, according to the News Journal. “We’re defending champs, and we’re not defending champs for no reason. At the end of the day, I’m walking out of this place,
and we’re still in first place. That’s how you’ve got to look at it.”
In fact, the Mets are 3–8 since June 10, but have actually gained a game on the Phillies during that time.
I am afraid of roller coasters, mostly because of the heights and because I don’t like to be upside down. However, it appears I can get the same rush of the up-and-down thrills, without the heights, all by simply rooting for the Mets.
The sad thing is, I feel like I’ve been on this ride for two years.
This season, I feel like the Mets have the parts and pieces to win games, but they just can’t get it together. I mean, short of one hot week in May, the Mets have been all over the road.
Johan Santana is dominant, but John Maine, Mike Pelfrey and Oliver Perez struggle… Then, Pelfrey gets it together, and Santana falls apart… David Wright hits .350, but strikes out a ton… The starters are good, the bullpen stinks… The bullpen turns it on, the starters all get hurt… The team hits, but guys make base-running mistakes… The ball is fielded cleanly, then air-mailed over first… One guy comes off the disabled list, another guy goes on… He’s healthy today, then needs an MRI… and so on, and so on.
The Mets have 20 games between now and the All-Star break, 19 of which are against teams at or above .500, including the Dodgers and Phillies.
Yesterday, Jerry Manuel said John Maine and Oliver Perez will start in a doubleheader today for Single-A St. Lucie, and could possibly rejoin the Mets at some point next week.
According to Manuel, getting Maine and Perez back will give the team options, in terms of who is in the rotation and who is in the bullpen.
Manuel explained, Fernando Nieve could be a candidate for the bullpen, as he could lengthen the bullpen and allow rest for Sean Green and Bobby Parnell, among others.

Tagged Oliver Perez |Yesterday, Brian Schneider hit a three-run home run off the porch to put the Mets up one run in the sixth inning.
The Mets then took the field, where
Bobby Parnell faced four batters and allowed a hit to each, including a two-run home run to B.J. Upton and an RBI double to Evan Longoria.
Parnell has retired just two of the last 11 batters he faced, spanning three games.
As such, the New York Post writes, “The beleaguered Parnell should have monogrammed ‘B.P.’ on the baseballs he threw in yesterday’s seventh inning, serving notice those pitches were for batting-practice purposes only.”
…it’s not rocket surgery, though, i mean, parnell has nothing on his his secondary pitches, and so people are teeing off on his fastball, which he’s been throwing right over the plate…
Later, Sean Green faced three batters and gave up three hits.
In fact, the 2005 Reds are the only other team in the last 60 years to have two relievers face three or more batters in one game and give up hits to each batter, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, courtesy of ESPN.com.
…it really is amazing… i mean, it was just a few days ago that the bullpen was viewed as the strong part of the team, not just according to my eyeballs, but also according to the stats… but, boom, the wheels just totally fell off… it could be they’re a bit overworked, given how the short the rotation has been… it could be the odd weather… it could just be a collective slump… who knows…
Manuel, speaking to reporters about his bullpen’s struggles, said:
“What I need to do is really refresh the bullpen. I probably, to a fault, use them too much. I have to do all I can to refresh them and that will help. What I have to do is trust the other people I have down there.”
Parnell has pitched in five of the team’s last six games.
However, according to the New York Post, Parnell disagreed, saying, “I don’t think Jerry owes me a break, I owe him a few outs… I’ve got to get better.”
