Misc: Niese, First, Catchers, K-Rod, Clean-Up
By Matthew Cerrone - Jun 26, 2009 1:07 pm

In his last four starts in Triple-A, Mets LHP Jon Niese is 3–1 with a 1.03 ERA, with 25 strike outs in 26 innings.

The Mets are 8–22 in games when the opposition scores first.

However, they’ve outscored opponents 36–12 in the first inning during games at Citi Field, where the Mets are 22–14 this season.

The Mets have 51 RBI from their catchers this season, the most in the major leagues, according to Elias.

Francisco Rodriguez has allowed 11 of the 35 first-batters he has faced in an inning to reach base this season.

Jerry Manuel has used 50 different batting orders in 71 games.

Lastly, I started a Facebook account for me and MetsBlog, here.

I am so glad to see that Jon Niese has turned it around after such a dreadful start to his season in AAA.

His stock had taken a big hit, but if he continues pitching at or close to those numbers you have cited, he may come in handy later on this season if we need a fresh arm.

I dunno, Matt, pretty sure Delgado hit 4 HRs while batting fourth…

you could have made a fan page on Facebook instead of profile
it allows anyone to become a fan of Metsblog and receive updates from the fan page

I was thinking that, but whatever, I still befriended you Matt

    • ThomasinVA says:

Actually, he should have. He’ll likely hit the 5,000 friend limit and have to re-do it anyway.

Fan pages have no limit and don’t require mutual friendship acknowledgement.

Good news on Niese – trade bait, trade bait!

    • starz31 says:

lol yup…and maybe now teams can think Nick Evans might actually be a prospect…sell high!

      • pedros rooster says:

You thinking Evans won’t pan out? I want to believe in him, b/c he and Murphy are young enough to develop, but you’re probably right. Of course, I also believed in Mike (.300 OBP) Jacobs….

This site should hold a daily lineup challenge. The person who correctly guesses the 8 batters in order wins something.

Don’t worry though, there will be many days where no one wins.

      I love that idea!

        My entry for tonight:

        SS Alex Cora
        LF Fernando Tatis
        3B David Wright
        RF Ryan Church
        C Omir Santos
        1B Fernando Tatis
        CF Fernando Martinez
        2B Luis Castillo
        P Mike Pelfrey

        I think that lineup’s Jerry-tastic!

        • pedros rooster says:

Absolutely Jerry-tastic. You have Tatis in both LF and 1B, properly displaying both Manuel’s undying love for Fernando AND his utter refusal to let Evans or Murphy start with any frequency. Great work!

Your last line made me laugh aloud. And to be honest, that would be an excellent idea—not sure if Cerrone has spare doubloons to spend on prizes yet, tho. Maybe SNY could pony up the goods. Otherwise, I foresee:

An autographed photo of Lastings Milledge
      A Kaz Matsui jersey
2000 World Series DVD, narrated by Timo Perez

      Hahaha, excellent, Nate

11/35 first batters to reach isn’t really as many as i would have thought considering that apparently krod is an adventure. I will say it was a little adventorous yesterday. I know Matt said that he believed he made whoever that last out was his primary target but I really think he might have lost it a little bit after he kind of pitched around pujols, he just needed one more out but I didn’t like that the tying run was on second, although we did have albert picked off. He gets the job done all except that one time when it was clear he did not have it and that happens to everybody at some point
