News: The Marlins are Moving Up
By Matthew Cerrone - Jun 26, 2009 11:20 am

In case you hadn’t noticed, the Marlins have won nine of their last 15 games and lead the NL East in wins; they are just three losses behind the Phillies for first place.

Their pitching will always make me worry…

Marlins RHP Ricky Nolasco starts tonight, and is 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA in his last four starts since returning from a demotion to Triple-A.

Josh Johnson has thrown seven straight Quality Starts, pitching in to the seventh inning six straight games.

Maybe I should be concerned about the Marlins, but I’m really not. They’re a very up-and-down team. At the beginning of the season they were way up, then they went crashing down. Now they’re up again, and I’m sure the next crash isn’t far off.

Look at the bright side guys! If they win the series again, they’ll be due for another fire sale in the offseason, and we can clean house!…..lol,..j/k

  2. METSCITI says:

The Marlins are hitting .257 as a team.
Nolasco has a 6.42 era with opponents hitting .311 against him. Even if you take Johnson and Volstad as givens (despite Volstad’s 4.74 era) their rotation is still not that good. Couple that with an absolutely dreadful bullpen and they have a staff era of 4.38.
This team may knock us out on the last day of the year via rainout for all we know, but they are not a threat for the division or Wild Card.

I think you are forgetting West and Miller have been pitching pretty well too. They certainly have a better rotation than the Phils and maybe even the Braves. They also have enough power in their line-up to score some runs. The bullpen is the biggest question mark.

    I had indeed noticed this.

Ricjy Nolasco is def not starting tonight, he just pitched on Wednesday.

Josh Johnson is pitching tonight vs James Sheilds (who bested Johan last week)

I don’t know about the marlins but there is nothing we can do about them. The mets have to worry about themselives at this point, its june, still early to be scoreboard watching, the marlins could fall off the face of the earth, so could the phillies, so could we, just play hard and win games is all we can ask

  7. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

the mets need to focus on one team right now the yankees, they can worry about the marlins when they play them. If there is anything we should have learned from the past 2 seasons is you cant worry about what other teams do when youre not playing them all you can do is win games and if you do that it doesnt matter what anyone else does.

Hard to believe the Fish lead the NL East in wins with 38. I’m also glad that the final series of this season will not be against the Marlins.
