Health: Reyes Running, but Still not Close

Jose Reyes did light running in the outfield yesterday for the second-straight day, but told reporters he is still unsure when he will return, and it is unlikely to be before the All-Star break.

“Right now, I’m just jogging,” he said.  “So this is the first step.”

Reyes has yet to test the leg at full speed, noting that his legs still feel ‘a little weak.’

the difficult part to this will be when and how to let reyes loose… it’s not like he’s a slugger, who can half-it down the line… he’s whole game is based on speed, and running 100 percent… so, it’s going to be tricky for the medical team to determine when he can bust it, and how to test it without risking further injury

Jerry Manuel later told reporters Reyes is making progress, but the team will continue to be cautious in his rehab.

I assume they are going to do some MRIs to see if the damaged tendon has healed.

But assume and mets medical are terrible words.

Yeah, no confidence the mets medical people will have a clue, and get it right.

I am 95% certain that this wil llinger on until the ASB at least, then the Drs. will clear him, he will try to play, last 3 innings before “feeling” it, then have season ending surgery.

Sadly, that sounds about right to me.

I really have no problem with how they have approached this thus far other than he should have been dl’d the minute he felt pain back in May rather than the crazy shake it off a few dozen days method. Right now rest is the best thing for an injury to a leg muscle/tendon, the question really becomes will they look at it and say, the blood therapy worked the tendon is healing nicely and well enough to run on.

I’ve said it before…when a met doctor says “he will not make it any worse by running or playing” that is code for HE WILL MAKE IT WORSE.

A tear in the hamstring should be at least 8 weeks, no reason jose should even be jogging…sorry but this will blow up too. Reyes is needed for the long haul, once again I think they are pushing a player who is NOT READY. He is there young star who needs his legs…just tell us he is out 5 more weeks and REST HIM.

Didn’t they say he will be out until the ASB?

That’s a few weeks away, isn’t it?

And he is resting, what do you want him to do? Wear a cast and be bed ridden for 2 months?

Reyes has a tear in the Hamstring TENDON, NOT the Hamstring itself, a completely different ( and less serious injury.) However, while it might be okay for the average person to let the tendon heal on it’s own, it’s certainly not the best method for a professional athelete who does explosive moves with his legs routinely. Tendon tears typically require surgery to get them back to as strong as they were before. (Like Reyes needs it to be able to perform like he’s used to). Think of it kinda like a severely sprained ankle. Over time sure, the pain goes away, but as anybody who’s ever had a severely sprained ankle will tell you it’s considerably easier to re-injure that ankle from that point forward. In the end, I have a feeling that Reyes with end up having the surgery that will cost him the rest of the season now that they have dilly dallied around it for a month plus! If they would have just done the surgery weeks ago, probably would have been back by August at the latest.

Hurry up back Jose!!!

all due respect, you clearly have no sense of the player who went to Cleveland nor any of us who the PTBNL will be. Perez is not a bag of anything he was the Cardinals top rated pitching prospect.

Alex, I’m glad to see you made it through moderation. I missed your totally illogical thoughts, which by the way are much more valuable in all caps.

Keep up the good work.
