Hey, the Yankees have a 450 million payroll, ours right now is, what, 150? This matchup is like a AAA team against a little league team. We did not have a chance in hell. The Yankees are a proven ML team with a superstar line up and we a hodge podge of whatever minor leaguer or bench player we can get into the game. Congrats to the Yanks for winning 5 out of 6, they deserve it. Lets move on and take care of the Phillies.

I think the game ball should go to Livan. He threw way more pitches yet again than anybody else does on our staff and kept us in an important game and deserved a W. Only one run scores, if our defense was worth a damn. I probably would have given the game ball to Dr. Kevorkian, if he would have shown up at my home after the game and put me out of my misery:(

The Mets did two things wrong last night. Murphy double clutching when he had Jeter dead at 3rd, and Jerry completely mismanaging the PH situation in the 6th inning. Otherwise a 2-1 or 3-2 win was possible.

They really do need to play perfect baseball to be in games right now. Tough to do when the manager will make at least one mistake a night...

Santos put up a great fight in that AB against Rivera, but even he has lost the magic lately.

And not to compare Dunn to Johan, but have you seen Guerra and Humber lately? Gomez and Mulvey have been ok, but nothing missed. They are hit and miss and you have to roll the dice on a couple of them for a real bat like Dunn, in dire times like these.

NIese has pitched four straight great games in the minors so maybe you can package him and a lesser prospect but I don't know that the Nats do that -- I am being realistic with a deal they would do. Sure we are giving up a lot but Dunn would be signed for 2010 as our 1bman, so it's not a rental player. He is a 40 HR guy to replace Delgado. Do you really think Niese or Parnell are locks to be major contributors? They could be, but you never know. Fernando Nieve could be better than Niese long-term and he was a waiver transaction. Adam Dunn is real.

What dissappointed me the most this weekend was the defense. The starters for the most part gave the team a chance to win but terrible defense allowed the Yankees to have big innings Friday and Sunday. With our pathetic offense that can't happen.

As far as the offense, can we finally just let Tatis go. He has grounded into 10 double plays (most on the team) and he is only a part time player. It just angers me that Minaya has allowed the farm system to become a barren wasteland. I am sorry but the Red Sox and Braves have shown that you can have a large payroll signing free agents while still developing talent. I know we lost some in the Santana move but really, we have not 1 power hitter in the minors? We have no capable ready for prime time 1b or outfielders.

I know we are only a few out of first and a few out of the wild card but I just have a feeling Reyes will not be back or won't be back at full speed and will reinjure himself and who knows about Delgado. He didn't respond well to the wrist surgery. Are we all to assume he will just pick it up where he left off or is it more realistic to think it might take a month or longer, meaning towards the end of the season.

The Wilpons unfortunately do not have a killer mentality. If they were like the Yankees or Red Sox, they would clean house. It is unacceptable to be a major market franchise and have this amount of losing. It is not like they don't spend money, they just don't spend it wisely. Contracts to Castillo and Perez show that. You think the Mets would like that money back? How about the cash thrown at Putz when he was injured. To trade away all of those players without doing their due dilligence. To pick up Delgado (I agreed with) was a risk but they made no attempt to get the best player available for an extra 11 million a year.

The fans hate this team and question whether it has tried in the past. Now they try but have no talent. They have been fundamentally flawed for years. The culture of this team has changed dramatically since Minaya took over and yet the results are about the same. One playoff appearance. Lots of heartbreak. Frustration with the cross-town rivals.

WILPON'S WAKE UP. MINAYA IS THE PROBLEM. HIRE A GM THAT IS SMART WITH DEVELOPMENT AND WITH SPENDING CASH. MINAYA IS GOOD WRITING CHECKS BUT SO ARE THE KNICKS AND RANGERS AND HOW SUCCESSFUL HAVE THEY BEEN?

Agree on the above comments about Murphy. Never been a huge fan, mainly b/c of his glove. His lack of glove work is even more exacerbated with the lack of offense right now. This team can't afford to give away runs like they did Friday and Sunday.

"A deal would send the message they want to win and will do what it takes to help us," one veteran player said. "I'm not saying to make a deal for the sake of making a deal, but something that can make a difference every day like a hitter."

Adam Dunn for Parnell and Niese. Sure that is overpaying, but we need the bat. I still cant believe there were people who said we need so much help that getting Dunn isn't enough. Picture Dunn in there for Tatis, just for a second.
