I agree, I think every Mets fan hated having to deal with yankee fans making fun of them over the embarrasing sweep and thats what put Mets fan's over the edge to make a trade. We're still only 3 games back with a lot of games left. If we were 7-8 games back than I'd panic but if we can get to the all-star break being less than 10 games back, a healthy team can make up those games. We still have a lot of games against the phillies to make up ground. If the phillies don't get another SP, they won't be able to run and hide with the Division!!

I agree, I was upset that they offered O'day back and didn't find a spot for him in the bullpen. The same thing happened last year when they chose to keep Wise over Register. Granted I have no clue how Register has pitched this year but I liked what I saw out of him last spring and he couldn't have been worse than what we were throwing out there last year.

It's a month before the TD.

Some fans say we don't have the chips to trade and blame Omar.
Whatever.
Some fans suggest they can evaluate players/prospects better than the pros and want to trade the FMarts, Parnell's, etc, etc,
and blame Omar for not doing so.
Whatever.
Some fans say pick up DeRosa, or Dunn, fill in your choice, etc, as if one or another ensures we stay in the race while Omar allows himself to be robbed.
Whatever.
Some fans say it's Omar's fault for not having the organizational depth to replace all the wounded.
Whatever.
Some fans say the Met's and Omar owe them something...and have to make a deal.
Whatever.

Few, if any clubs could withstand the rash of injuries, both this year and last, to starters, relievers, position players, backups and backups to backups, and remain in the hunt?Omar is keeping his cool. There will be salary dumps this month and we will get guys back. We may be able to make a run in a weak division.

This season may end up being Omar's finest hour. He kept his head while all about him were losing theirs.

What I am getting at is I think our front office puts to high of a trade value on some guys. almost like if they believe everyone else around the league will believe. I am not saying DeRosa was the right fit but I am not putting a very high value on Parnell right now. Really he is nothing special until he develops another GOOD pitch.

most of our better quality prospects are in single A ball because the mets just started to draft over slot last year. They need time to develop.

You would need to throw in either an OF or a reliever...those are the Nats' needs right now.

I'd say Church + one or two of Niese/Kunz/Gee

Parnell is still very young an inexperienced, and my take why he is struggling is simply because he is fatigued.

Bobby Parnell has 36 appearances this season, which is TIED with Pedro Feliciano.

Brian Stokes and Sean Green have 28 and 31 appearances, respectively.

Jerry Manuel has overworked Parnell, and the loss of Putz has hurt as well. Meanwhile, Darren O'Day (the guy I scorned Omar for releasing) has a 1.46 ERA in 26 G for Texas this season.

It's simple: O'Day should never have been released after just four short appearances, and Bobby Parnell should not be pitching day like he is.

Derosa is 34 years old, Parnell is 24. Why trade a young fire baller for an old utility player. Don't forget Parnell is a starter who was forced to the pen last year and pitched well in spring training. If he struggles in relief, he'll be given a chance to be a starter and young pitching is more valuable than old utility players.
