After yesterday’s game, Francisco Rodriguez told reporters that he would be available for tonight’s game against the Phillies, despite matching a career high 46 pitches thrown.
Jerry Manuel knew that sending Rodriguez out for a second inning might jeopardize his availability for tonight, but Rodriguez asked Manuel to let him back out for the tenth, telling reporters:
“I’m the kind of guy if I make a mess, I clean it up. I felt really frustrated because I didn’t get the job done in the ninth.”
…i just hope that if he is available and needed that he can be effective…he has thrown 93 pitches since Sunday night which has become a lot for a starter, let alone a closer…

it’s funny because most fans complain that the Mets didn’t treat a game against the Pirates like they would a game against the Phillies. now Manual does exactly that and people are concerned.
I’m happy KRod pitched yesterday. if it comes back to bite them in the first two games against the Phils, I will admit I’m wrong but how horrible would it have been if Parnell lost the game yesterday and then KRod was not even used tonight or tomorrow?
win the game you are playing first and then worry about tomorrow when it comes. every game matters, not just the games against the Phillies.
I 100% agree! In fact last night I posted on here that K-rod made the mess, send his butt back out there to clean it up. And considering the state of the ball club, and the next three against the division leading Phils I gotta believe if we have a change to get a W against them K-Rod has got to be in there to close it out. I’m not concerned with him getting overworked at this point, heck some people would say (and I agree) that part of the really K-rod has suffered a lack of command of late is because prior to Sun. he had been used very little largely because the Mets haven’t been in a position to win. He can rest after the Philly Series and I’m sure he would agree with me. If the Mets really want to stay in the hunt they have to take at the very least 2 of 3 this weekend! To do that would be tremendous and a real morale booster.
There is no way Frankie pitches tonight. But hey, it would be a nice problem to have, no? It would mean we’re winning in the 9th.
We should be able to beast this chump Lopez. Frankie will be sippin Mai Thai’s in the bullpen.
Lord, we can only hope that’s the case!
He can’t pitch tonight, even if it is very important. The last thing we need is him going down. If there’s one MVP this team has, it’s him because he’s won so many games for us that would have been losses last year. I don’t know who gets the ball tonight – maybe Parnell. I’d prefer Green or Feliciano depending on the situation. This is why we need JJ or Billy when K-Rod gets overworked.
I agree. Getting yesterday’s game was important and you could not trust Parnell to save it. Plus, in that situation, you can’t manage for tomorrow b/c you may not even need K-Rod tonight. Rest him and use Stokes, Pedro and Green for 7/8/9
So the simple solution here is to just score 10 runs and have a laugher so K-Rod can rest up.
So logical…why did no one else think of it?
I’m with you chief! One nice thing is are going to miss both Cole Hammels and J A Happ the two best pitchers on the Phillies staff!
what I find amazin’ is that we are hanging on by the skin of our teeth.
I watch the Mets play every day on MLB.TV and then glance @ the scores and standings, and see us one game back…
I feel the majic in the air.
