Just emphasizes what a poor brand of baseball this team plays. Leaving men on base, throwing errors, mental errors, base running errors. If they played a fundqmentally sound game they’d have at least 5 more wins.

You also need to take into account the number of games that we’ve lost due to errors and mental mistakes. Missed bases, droped balls, stretching doubles into triples…all these things have cost us games and those types of plays aren’t accounted for statistically.

Yeah I would say that Mr Redding has pitched himself right into the bullpen! But considering that Santana is generally a 2nd half pitcher and we have already got 9 wins out of Santana with 2 starts to go before the all-star break I think we have to be happy with that at this point given the month of June he had and our current offense. As for Big Pelf I expect him to continue rolling, I think something clicked after that bad inning against the Yankees. He was pitching with the same agressiveness after that, and shut them down the last 2 or 3 innings with very few pitches which is why I lamented Manuel for pulling him after the fith inning with Argenis Reyes of all people!

Well, he can’t bench all three! lol he doesn’t have that many players! Seriously if he would just keep his hand off the lineup he might just see some consistancy in the offense! I still contend that the players detained Jerry while someone with a brain filled out yesterdays lineup card! It just made too much sense for Jerry to have done it.

Totally fair – but I think the tone of the post raises the question, why is the mets offense so middling? And there’s also a “look how good the mets offense is despite not hitting home runs.”

Meanwhile, our up and down pitching in June has a lot to do with the struggles of Santana and Pelfrey this month – which I think can be more of a blip (unless Santana is really hurt). The back end of the rotation has pitched better than the front end in June, save for Redding, whose just been a disaster since day 1 outside of one start against the Nats.

Well, lately Church and Evan hve been providing some. So hopefully that trend continues. WHich will in turn give David Wright a chance to finally relax. That man needs a day off, but I don’t see it happening in the next three days that’s for sure. With any luck yesterdays offensive outburst from Tatis was not a fluke. (athough I’ll need to see more from Tatis to truly believe it) If he get rolling, and Church stays hot, we just might score a few runs!

The Dodgers only have 59 home runs, 4th lowest in the NL, and have the best record in baseball. The Giants have only 52 home runs, third lowest in the NL, but the second best record in the NL.

The difference is that they are first and second in team ERA, while the Mets are in the middle of the NL pack at 9th. Our pitching has stumbled this past month, which has been a big reason why we lost 2/3rds of our June games.

It’s not just the lack of homers, it’s the lack of extra base hits of any kind. I know there was a game recently where they had 14 hits. 12 singles and a couple of doubles You generally need 3 singles to score a run. A single, double, single or single, single, double will generally plate you two.

Look guys we all know that a big HR guy in the lineup would help, but the fact is there isn’t much on the trade market currently, and what is on the market is going to require mortgaging the future to obtain, and even then we might not have enough prospspects to get it done. Especially with Bobby Parnell’s struggles of late. All for an HR guy who I think will help but not enough to make a marked difference in the teams performance to make it worth mortgaging the future. It’s time to just deal with what we have and make the best of it. If we get some halfway decent starting pitching and Jerry leaves the lineup alone so everyone gets in a groove we should be fine, not great by any stretch but good enough to hang around ’till we get healthy.
