Mets GM Omar Minaya talked to reporters from the media room in Citi Field today.
According to Minaya, Carlos Delgado is swinging off a tee, and “coming along good.”
Meanwhile, Minaya said, Carlos Beltran is riding a stationary bike, he is working in the pool, and will obviously not play in the all star game. He is still feeling pain in his knee, and will need to play rehab games before the team has a timeline for his return.
Jose Reyes was back in NYC today to get a cortisone shot, and will now wait for that to take affect. “Hopefully, this will get him started again,” Minaya said, and, “alleviate the discomfort.”
Reyes’s biggest hurdle is “acceleration,” be it moving to get a ground ball or run hard around the bases.
John Maine threw from flat ground today, and will do so again in a few days.
Fernando Martinez had an MRI, which showed swelling in his right knee, but that has disappaited and he is able to play in tonight’s game.
JJ Putz is still rehabbing, but not throwing yet.
Billy Wagner is throwing to live hitters and is “coming along good,” though the team is still projecting a late-August, early-September return.
In the end, Minaya said Delgado is still looking at returning around August 15, or “in that range,” ad he hopes to see the other guys, including Maine, back before that.
Frankly, having watched Minaya in person, listening and watching his body language, I think I’m going to switch gears and assume none of these players are coming back this season, or at least not for a while.

I said the same, last week, Matt.
The lack of details and schedule of return times means one thing; don’t let ticket sales die this early!
Delgado, Reyes and Beltran are definite toast this season.
We have been cursed by Philly jerseys in the foundation and all I got to say to the Wilpons is, “Start diggin’ !”
(Just don’t nick my brick in the fanwalk!)
I think Wagner will be back earlier than some people expect. I’m guessing August 1st. We may as well as much out of him as possible. Even if he’s not 100%, he’s still valuable. They’re paying him all that money, so they may as well get there monies worth.
Agree 100%. He said, in ST, that he’d “love to set up for KRod.” Give him the opportunity.
As for how the team is doing right now . . . what goes around, comes around. They will get hot at some point in this season. My hope is that they get hot in time to do something in the NL East. If not to win the thing, to keep another team from doing the same.
gee thanks, that’s inspiring and nice to know…
Come on Pelf. No walks
Game over. It’s not even that walk. It’s the fact that the Mets would take like six or seven innings just to be lucky enough to score a run.
Yeah Gary Cohen, he did everything right… Walk the bases loaded to get to Manny? Like Nieve, he’ll probably be the only one to drive in a run tonight.
That’s what I was saying…why did he pitch around Furcal? That was stupid
ground ball double play Tatis! oh wait, no one on base…
Phillies are winning and we are losing… Prepare to be 5.5 games out and counting…
Thanks Omar good idea to wait for the core guys to come out in August. You really are plain stupid. We will be 10 out by than you cant count on that.
to come “back”
If some of the Mets came out in August, it would be quite a story, NY Post-Piazza style.
But don’t worry about the typo — with grammar like that, you could be GM of the Mets, the team where players are “coming along good.”
Omar isnt stupid in the sense that he knew if he sold this “we are gonna wait before we make a move” philosophy by the time it came to making a move we would be so out of it that he wouldnt have to trade for someone since he clearly just can not do it. He never makes in season trades even the few acquisitions he has made midseason were almost entirely waiver guys. I really just dont think hes bright enough to make a midseason trade without getting fleeced (see: Bartolo Colon to Expos).
Its ok guys, once the reinforcements arrive the team can get back to playing that unstoppable brand of mets baseball they play every Sep…oh son of a.
You really dropped the ****ing ball, Omar. Murphy and Tatis instead of Manny, huh. How carefree would Wright be at the plate if he had Manny ****ing Ramirez protecting him.
forget Manny, how about Dunn or Ibanez in left? Omar screwed up big time. TATIS! good lord.
Sorry to say but Omar waited way to late. The way things look now we will be 5.5 games out. The Phillies are red hot and we suck. If Omar was going to make a move it should have been a month ago when we were screaming for one!!!!!! A trade now may be pointless. I am so aggravated you have no idea.
Im honestly at the point now where I cant articulate my disgust, anger, and frustration. I basically just come on here and rant in hard to follow posts about how much i hate minaya, wilpon, and several players.
Same here. Im speechless. I just watched two guys who I wanted in the off season (Manny and Orlando Hudson) kick our ass, Castillo (who I didnt want) get thrown out at third and make a fielding error, and Nick Evans (not an outfielder) not come close to catching a line drive that he was playing way to shallow on. I’m starting to believe this season is basically finished and its only July.
I’m starting to believe you are making a play to be the Mets GM
hahaha just pissed off
Wagner will be back, perez is coming back, maine MAY come back. I dont think Reyes, Beltran or Delgado will ever suit up again this season.
you got it Todd
I agree with Zeile. Ollie, Maine and Wags (last 2 by around 8/1 maybe), but the others? Beltran maybe 8/15 if at all, ditto for Delgado, and reyes next year hopefully.
But even if they come back, expect lots of rust and minimal production.
