It's not a torn hammy, its the tendon, huge difference. The shot is to reduce the inflammation around the hammy tendon, it's the last step prior to complete shutdown or allows for increased workouts without further inflammation or swelling due to increased exertion. As an aside, does anyone else find it odd that they are giving Reyes a cortisone shot for a torn harmistring? I am no doctor, but I thought cortisone shots are a anti inflamatory/pain reliever. They do nothing to help heal, but rather mask pain. Wouldn't it be counterintuitive to have him rest so that it could heal, but when it is taking too long to give him a cortisone shot so he could play even though the hamstring is still torn... Sounds like another botched medical decision by the Mets Agreed.
