SI.com’s Jon Heyman is co-hosting WFAN’s mid-day show this afternoon.

According to Heyman, the Mets had a meeting yesterday to discuss
their prospects, and seem to have no interest in trading Jenrry Mejia, Brad Holt, Fernando Martinez and Ike Davis.
Heyman says a deal for Blue Jays RHP Roy Halladay will certainly cost some combination of Holt, Mejia, Davis or Martinez, and so a deal with the Mets is not likely to happen.
What’s more, Heyman says the Mets have struggled to match up with Billy Beane and the A’s, regarding OF Matt Holliday; they’ve checked in on Aubrey Huff, but the Mets see him most as a DH, much like they view Nationals OF Adam Dunn; and so, in the end, he does not see any imminent trades for the Mets.
However, Heyman said the Phillies do have the necessary talent to acquire Halladay, who they are very much interested in, as do the Giants, and possibly the Cardinals and Dodgers.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com believes the Blue Jays are listening to
offers for OF Alex Rios, who is hitting .259 with 10 HR, and will earn $60 million over the next five seasons.
According to Rosenthal, the Jays might be asking teams interested in RHP Roy Halladay to take on either Rios, Vernon Wells or Scott Rolen.
This morning on WFAN, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said the Yankees and Mets are among 12 teams who have contacted the Jays regarding Halladay.
In a poll on MetsBlog.com, 54 percent of people who voted said they would trade Fernando Martinez, Wilmer Flores and Brad Holt for Halladay, while 62 percent said they would sign Rios to a five-year, $60 million deal if he was a free agent.
Rosenthal also reports on trade rumors involving Rockies 1B-3B Garrett Atkins and OF Ryan Spilborghs, as well as D-Backs pitcher Doug Davis.
Speaking of outfielders…
According to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, “The Orioles are exploring trades for infielder Oscar Salazar and OF Felix Pie,” as they look to create a roster spot for SS Cesar Izturis, who will be activated from the disabled list on Friday.
Pie, who had been a highly-touted prospect with the Cubs, is batting just .226 in 182 career games, with just 26 extra base hits, 12 stolen bases and a .299 OBP.
Zrebiec believes the O’s have talked to the White Sox about a deal that would swap Pie for 3B Josh Fields.
Pie is not eligible to be a free agent until 2014.

In a hilarious post to Amazin Avenue, James sets the rules for the Gary, Keith and Ron Drinking Game, such as, ‘Take one sip when Keith refers to Howard Johnson as ‘Haji,’’ or, Take two sips when Keith tells the viewers to watch David Wright‘s shoulder.’
…by the way, keith calls him Haji because Howard Johnson became HoJo, which became Haji, which became Ali Haji-Sheikh, which becomes The Shiek…
This week in Sports Illustrated, Michael Bamberger does a Where are They Now for the 1969 Mets.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Interleague Play is only good for an additional 100 tickets per MLB team.
…hat tip to Mets Police for the link… and, if this is the case, i think it’s time to kill interleague play, since the novelty wore off years ago, and now it just makes the schedule awkward and unfair…
In a post to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Eric Trager explains what its like to be a Mets fan in Philadelphia.
To read more about last night’s win against the Dodgers, check out post-game write ups from the Real Dirty, It’s Mets for Me and the Daily Stache.
Lastly, Meet the Mets will be Citi Field’s Eighth Inning Sing-a-Long, getting 45 percent of the vote on Mets.com.
…by the way, i agree with WFAN’s Craig Carton, it would be pretty fun and appropriate to play I Like it Like That, from the hook, after every time the Mets score… i don’t even like the song, but i like the idea…
Last night, with one out, Dodgers 1B Mark Loretta ripped a ground ball down the first-base line, which hit the base and popped high in the sky. Daniel Murphy reacted quickly, scurried towards second base, picked up the ball with his right hand and flipped it behind his back to Bobby Parnell covering first base for the out.
…snazzy play… credit for parnell, too… again, murphy reacts well, he has strong baseball instincts, and seems to struggle most on plays when he has time to think… that said, it looked like loretta was safe on the re-play…
By the way, Murphy had two doubles last night.
…he hit the ball hard in all four at bats, and seems to be turning on the inside fastball again, like he was when he was hitting well earlier in the year…
To watch Murphy’s behind-the-back, no-look pass to Parnell, click play:
Carlos Delgado hit soft-toss in the batting cages yesterday, after which he played catch, and then fielded ground balls at first base.
…from what i can gather, delgado didn’t do much turning or running, just keeping it simple, basic
movements, fielding balls hit directly at him… nevertheless, he was on the field, which is a lot more than Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes can say…
Delgado later told reporters he feels good, and experienced no issues while hitting and fielding.
…the time to be excited is when he starts hitting live pitching, and taking throws to first…
Speaking of injuries, and rehab…
Yesterday, the Pawtucket Red Sox accidentally announced that Jose Reyes would be playing in a rehab game later this week, adding, “Great seats are still available.”
However, Argenis Reyes will be playing for Triple-A Buffalo, not Jose.
…from what i can gather, reyes will continue to rest following tuesday’s cortisone shot…. he is expected to report back to St. Lucie later this week… i don’t expect any one to hear news of his progress until later next week… frankly, i’m still 50–50 on whether we see him back at all this season…
Oliver Perez walked the first batter of the game on four pitches last night, but regrouped to pitch five innings, and though he walked seven batters, he allowed only two runs.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, courtesy of ESPN.com, “Perez is the first pitcher in team history to win a game in which he pitched fewer than six innings and allowed at least seven walks.”
…perez was rocking a nice slider, but he struggled to command his fastball, it seemed… he walked seven, and more than half of the pitches he threw were balls… the thing is, he kept coming up with the big out… hmmm, maybe we should stop looking for Big Game Ollie, and just be happy with Big Out Ollie…
Perez, speaking to reporters following the game, said:
“I did everything I could… Sometimes you’re going to have that kind of game, and sometimes you’re going to have almost-perfect games… Sometimes you don’t have command. That’s why it’s very important to make sure you make the important outs.”
Perez lowered his ERA from 9.97 to 8.78.
The Mets are 2–4 in Perez’s six starts this season.
“I think there’s still some things that he obviously needs to work on,” Jerry Manuel said after the game. “Obviously command is one of them.”
…yes, jerry… obviously… this is an understatement…
…by the way, perez has a faux-hawk going, which makes him look even crazier than i already assume he is… i like it…
