Pre Game: Mets vs. Dodgers (Game 3)
By Matthew Cerrone - Jul 9, 2009 3:55 pm

Luis Castillo will bat leadoff tonight, followed in order by Nick Evans in left field, David Wright, Gary Sheffield in right field, Fernando Tatis at first base, Ryan Church in center field, Omir Santos behind the plate and Alex Cora at shortstop.

…unbelievable… i know there is a left-handed pitcher on the mound, but why is Daniel Muprhy out of the lineup, 24 hours after getting two doubles and making a sensational play at first base… ugh

Livan Hernandez will start tonight for the Mets.

Randy Wolf will start for the Dodgers.

By the way, Tatis is 2 for 28 against Wolf.

Meanwhile, Murphy is batting .317 against left-handed pitching.

Update, 4:55 pm:

Jerry Manuel was asked before the game why Tatis is starting over Murphy, and he explained that, because there is a left-handed pitcher tonight, followed by three right-handed starters before the break, he wanted to get Tatis a start tonight.

Manuel said he believes pitchers had adjusted to Murphy, and he’s now re-adusting to them, as he’s begining to pull the ball again, which is a good sign.

Unreal, Manuel should get raked for this by the press, but he wont.

  2. Lorenzo23 says:

I thought Jerry sticks with the hot hand???? hmmmm

  3. wright5murph28 says:

matt according to bart hubbach and adam rubins blog cora is batting 8th with evans 2nd

  4. ditas says:

Incredible, they score some runs last night and this great manager of ours changes the lineup. Who cares if a lefty is pitching? Oh and Tatis is 2 for 28 in his career against Wolf. I can’t take anymore of this man.

  5. mark4212 says:

Exactly Matt. Exactly.> Frustrating..> This isn’t the first time Jerry has done this to Murphy. I think it’s half the reason he’s hitting .250. He starts seeing the ball well and gets a multi hit game and is benched.

  6. wright5murph28 says:

schneider, reed, murphy all played big parts in the mets rallies…and now all 3 are on the bench because an AVERAGE left hander is on the mound….id rather jerry run the same exact lineup out as he did yesterday and them fail then see all the right handers he put in the lineup fail….

  7. starz31 says:

Wow…we all were joking this morning about Murphy getting benched and we all kinda hesistantly knew we might be right…
    but wow… seriously?

lefty, i dont care…the kid earned another start no matter what….unbelieveable.

    • wright5murph28 says:

i was actually gunna say that…everyone was like “haha jerry will bench him now”….and he actually did….is jerry trying to get fired or does he have a man crush on tatis?

  8. theperfectgame says:

    I’m speechless.

  9. VCarver says:

I second the “ugh” regarding Murphy. What happened to playing the hot hand, which Manuel said he was going to do? How can Murphy get on a roll if he is in and out of the lineup constantly.

Another “ugh” for Tatis. If you have to hit to play, what is Tatis doing in the lineup again? Hasn’t Manuel seen enough double plays lately?

And Castillo should not be leading off. He has a .274 OBP from the leadoff spot. Cora is better at .310. But I would try Murphy for now until Pagan comes back. Too bad Murphy is sitting.

  10. Bruce Boisclair says:

And didn’t Murphy start every day in the OF at the start of the season because the organization had confidence he could hit lefties?

I really don’t understand this one.

And if Tatis hits into one double play tonight, I might lose it…

  11. Patrick says:

I can completely understand wanting to get Tatis in the lineup, but not at the expense of guy who hit the ball hard 4 times last night.

  12. ScottN says:

I’m with the choir here. Manuel had a good team out there last night that played good D and had timely hitting. I can see subbing Santos for Schneider, but back with Church in center? That is not a good defensive outfield.

I really, really don’t understand Manuel.

    • wright5murph28 says:

yea last nights lineup/defensive alignment is prob best mets have right now…but its not so much that church is in center cause hes good enough to hold it down when beltrans not there……its that evans and sheff are on the corners…both have very little range….i cant figure out jerry’s thinking when making these lineups…

  13. Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

I always wondered what Forrest Gump was up to these days after his shrimp boat adventures. Nice to see he resurfaced as the manager of the New York Mets. I guess Liutenant Dan is the baserunning coach.

  14. Craig K. says:

oh man if i were murphy right now….

  15. havery says:

This is the last straw for me. I have never had a bad though towards Manuel until now. I have always given him a pass and the benefit of the doubt, but not playing Murphy (who I am not a huge fan of) after last night and having tatis in there is unreal. Just unreal. Someone else said it, but if he hits into another DP I will lose it. He does nothing but hot ground balls to 3rd and short

  16. AndrewMichaelZ says:

Does anyone know whether Jerry has actually put the same lineup out back to back? I guess maybe in the beginning of the season.

I actually thought to myself last night during the game that maybe he’d consider sending the same guys out given there was a bit of success (at least breaking the 23 scoreless inning streak).

I’m obviously with you all on Murph but what’s the deal with Tatis (the one man rally killer) behind Sheffield. Is it not obvious that Church should have Shef’s back?

    • wright5murph28 says:

Church not hitting behind sheff shouldnt surprise anyone…jerry seems to find a way to make things harder then they are for no reason at all….church is the mets 2nd…or 3rd best hitter right now behind either wright…or wright and sheff….so it would be way to easy and obvious he should be batting 4th or 5th…but jerry being jerry tries to make things harder then they are and over manage and they seem to be back firing alot lately…

  17. havery says:

    Murphy should be PISSED!!!!!!!!

  18. jesse52782 says:

For someone who says he doesnt like to manage by the book, Manuel is giving an exhibition of it this season…What a disgrace he is as a manager…I know everyone says he has nothing to work with, but that’s because he keeps using Tatis and Evans.

    • mark4212 says:

I’m for playing Evans… Not batting him 2nd and only to give Church and Sheff days off until Pagan comes back…… But tatis should not be playing more then once a week. Does Jerry watch the games. Has he not seen what the booth guys have seen his swing being a good 1/10th a second slower.

  19. mark4212 says:

I think jerry just throws names in a hat and say Wright’s batting third…. Lets see who’s first tonight…… Castillo. ….. 2nd isssssss Evans…. Cleanup…….etc

  20. Zabado says:

    …and aren’t Murph’s #s better against lefties anyway?

    • wright5murph28 says:

if im not mistaken(i havent checked in a couple weeks) murphy is hitting over .300 against lefties…not sure about tatis but i dont see murphy as a liability against lefties…and i also dont see church as one either and we know when(if) beltran comes back church is gunna be sitting against lefties cause jerry cant just find his best 8 players and play them consistently…he’d rather throw garbage like tatis out there

    • mark4212 says:

Tatis is hitting .242 vs lefties and .250 vs righties.

Murphy is hitting .290 vs lefties and .239 vs righties.

I’d say Murphy is the better hitter vs lefties.

And for his career Tatis is a .269 hitter vs Lefties in 800+ career AB’s and a career .260 hitter vs Righties, and Murphy is a .317 in 46..

So murphy is a small sample size. But Man oh man Tatis isn’t exactly a lefty killer for his career.

  21. thedude says:

Nothing really to add here, but I’ll try anyway.

Don’t know why anyone is surprised by this. Can’t believe Evans over Reed either.

    • wright5murph28 says:

i know…i mentioned that above…reed should be playing CF almost every day…for a team thats trying to improve your defense…taking a gold glove caliber RFer out of RF when u have a more then servicable CFer on the bench…at least defensively makes no sense…so what if u sacrafice a bat…this team is gunna need to scratch out runs and play good D and pitch well….

Ron Darling was practically campaigning for reed to get more starts in CF and i cant blame him…u know hes at least gunna bring u defense…and even tho i assume fmart has a higher ceiling then reed at the plate(or at least i frigen hope so) u know what u will get out of reed…some singles and doubles and good defense…i love how anyone who watches this team on a consistent basis realizes all this…but the guy who makes the decisions is oblivious to all of this….

  22. dap260 says:

I have been a pretty die hard Jerry Manuel fan, especially given the bashing I doled out to Willie, but this decision really is starting to make me think that Jerry may well be a trans-gendered Rachel Phelps…….

What kind of incentive does he have in his contract if the Mets come in deal last, South Florida already has a team….

  23. mark4212 says:

I Killed Willie randolph for the same thing….

Baseball players are creatures of habit. If your an every day player you expect to play almost every day. If your a Platoon you get used to playing in a platoon and if your a bench player you get used to it.

If you hit in a certain spot in the lineup you get comfortable there.

Moving guys all over the place in a lineup, Having sporadic playing time for every player outside Castillo, Cora and Wright, is KILLING THIS TEAM offensively. How can any player get in a groove?

  24. stickguy says:

well, as always, the simple answer is Jerry is not bright (can’t use the I word it seems)

How long before he finally realizes that Tatis has had enough time to prove he isnt going to get hot? Late September?

Livan better keep the ball on the ground tonight with that OF

  25. Sylow59 says:

I cannot blame Jerry for the injuries; but the lowered expectations from them have masked just how bad Manual is as a manager.

    • Nate W. says:

Actually it has brought out just how bad he is…

If he had the same 6-7 givens in the lineup everyday he wouldn’t look like a buffoon when he makes out a lineup like this.

And it took 3 or 4 blown games before he realized that he was using the same three relievers too much. When the press was on it for three weeks.

  26. wright5murph28 says:

I just cant get over how full of crap jerry is tho…he clearly likes playing favorites…church has been the best RF option this year by far and his playing time was screwed by jerry….but that leads me to my next point.

What have we all heard Jerry say for the past couple weeks….”if you perform and hit, your gunna play”……Omir santos couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat for the past few weeks and schneider has been playing well……reed played well yesterday and had 3 good at bats….2 in crucial situations….and murphy who this team needs to get going and get production from 1B consistently finally has a game where he looks like he might be turning the corner and he benches him against randy wolf….randy F’ing wolf…..im just not gunna believe anything jerry says anymore

    • thedude says:

This is my biggest problem with Jerry. He has players who are inexplicably “his guys” and they get a ridiculous amount of chances to prove themselves.

And it’s always mediocre (at best) players like Tatis, Santos and Argenis Reyes.

      • mark4212 says:

I don’t get on him for Santos.

But A. Reyes is awful at best. and Tatis has proven why he was out of baseball and why last year was such a surprise.

Please just run out a lineup every day of

Cora (SS), Castillo(2nd), Wright(3rd), Sheff (LF)Church(RF), Murphy(1st), Reed(CF), Schneider/Santos(C). On rest days Evans in the 5,6,7,or 8 spot playing LF.

Is that so complicated? Use tatis to give Wright and Murphy a rest or in the OF instead of Evans if you really want to.

  27. mr.gee21 says:

This season has really sucked so far. In every way imaginable.

  28. Nate W. says:

Even worse he moves the hot Church down to 6th so that Tatis can kill any rally that gets started…

    • dap260 says:

IF – we are going to have Tatis in the line-up, let’s bat him lead off.

That is one less chance for him to hit into a double play….

  29. izzyAmet says:

Manuel is really trying to get Tatis going. But the problem is that he is only hitting into double plays. Give up on Tatis and let the young kid play.

  30. mark4212 says:

    Terrible, Flat out terrible.

I rarely ask for a manager to explain himself or ask for his head. But this is really getting ridiculous. I could understand early in the year when he said i gotta try to get these guys some time.

But now, Tatis isn’t hitting at all. And he is playing every other day.

    • wright5murph28 says:

well according to burkhardt on his twitter he said jerry cited some reasons why murphy and reed are out…he said he wanted to get tatis and evans in today cause the reds are throwing 3 righties…while that makes sense normally….your coming off the first game which ur offense showed some life in a week…and u take 3 of the guys who played big roles in yesterdays win out (schneider, reed, murph)

      • mark4212 says:

        Yeah that makes perfect sense….

        Shaking my head….

      • thedude says:

Brilliant Jerry. Because you always want to make your order based around the Maddux-Smoltz-Glavine esque trio of Bronson Arroyo, Johnny Cueto and Aaron Harang.

Also, does anyone care if Fernando Tatis sits for 5 days? What is the fear? That he’s going to cool off? Is he going to start hitting into triple plays instead of double plays?

      • Mets5rocks says:

I agree! The offense couldn’t score the last week if they were spotted 3 guys on, and when they finally do put something together, manuel guts the lineup! What a !#@#$#$! I think that Jerry has plain lost it. Granted last nights lineup was perfect, but the fact is they got the job done! I guess the only to solve this is Tatis needs to have a mild injury to keep him out of the lineup for I’m guessing atleast 3 weeks so Jerry would be forced to bench him where he belongs. I can’t believeit I just can’t I’mbeside myself with this lineup!

        • Mets5rocks says:

oops that was supposed to read “last nights lineup wasn’t perfect, but they got the job done!

  31. dave27 says:

Oh yeah people….the Mets managed to scracth out 5 runs against a pitcher with NOTHING, while still managing just 1 run in the 5th with bases loaded and one out and then failing to get a hit the rest of the game. No WAY I’d want to mess with that lineup!

I have more issue with Reed, who Jerry refuses to leave in there long enough to get him in a groove. I am with that chorus – as has been pointed out, Reed can play.

As for Murphy, I’m glad all it takes is one straight game where he doesn’t fall on his face for everyone to think he shouldn’t be touched.

Personally I put Evans on first tonight and Reed in CF, but whatever. No combination of these guys is going to be a day-in, day-out lineup.

    • mark4212 says:

We aren’t saying that it’s a guarantee that the same lineup last night would score anything tonight.

But for 3 days they scored NOTHING. They scored 5 last night. Murphy had 2 hits (both doubles) Reed had 2 hits with a walk (a double) and now both are sitting.

So the team had 3 extra base hits last night. The first game they have had that many in a fortnight. And what does the genius Jerry Manuel do? He didn’t look at stats, he went with his feel. And sat the 2 guys who had all 3 extra base hits tonight…..

      BRILLIANT!!!!!

      • Mets5rocks says:

I’m telling ya that Jerry’s a flipping Genius! Murphy has got to be fuming at this point! I would be, I mean what does he have to do to stay in the lineup? Oh you mean Jerry wanted rally killing DP’s oh well then Tatis is your man!

  32. hotcorner5 says:

it’s never good when we have to dive into the intricacies of “Jerry-logic”

  33. mark4212 says:

When the media asked Jerry why Tatis over Murphy he responded:

Wait for it… Wait for it….

Manuel said he believes pitchers had adjusted to Murphy, and he’s now re-adusting to them, as he’s begining to pull the ball again, which is a good sign.

    SO YOU SIT HIM!!!!!!!

    Awesome

  34. methead says:

So my initial reaction was WTF!!!!! Why isnt reed and Murphy not in the lineup?? But then Jerry has an actually logical reason, 3 righties after tonight which means Reed and Murphy should start 3 straight days.

Now….my guess? they wont start 3 straight days. Moreover, if Tatis has the game Murphy had yesterday, I bet he is in the lineup tomorrow. :)

Lets hope I am wrong and Jerry is telling the truth.

  35. deloid says:

This is flat out wrong and very upsetting. Leave the players and batting order alone after a win like yesterdays. Do this for the sake of logic but the baseball gods demand some obedience to superstition.
Wearing dirty underwear repeatedly after a good game is OK but playing the same players is out?

Murphy needs to play first base everyday. He needs to get his mistakes out of the way and play with his natural instincts. The guy has uncanny refleses and a rare athletic baseball swing with a good eye. He’s the one that needs time…not Tatis. Let tatis play second and left field to help him find his shorter swing. On the other hand someone can hire a batting coach for him on the side to correct what looks like a simple fix (at least to start things off).
Jerry- stop tinkering so much…please! If you want to tinker and mess with peoples minds make David Wright play second base a couple of days. that would hopefully get him to stop worrying about carrying the team. Wright is one guy that I wish could relax a bit. I’m certain that most fans know he’s a star and know he’s pressing too much. I like many, I hope, don’t care how many times he strikes out…he’s David Wright and that’s enough for me.
    Rant off.

  36. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

I seriously am sick of fernando tatis, Ive never rooted for a member of my own team to have a season ending injury but im kinda leaning towards that for tatis. Jerry needs the option taken away from him.

    • Mets5rocks says:

sadly, I think that’s the only way Jerry could see the light! UGH!…….Just UGH!

    • methead says:

lets be fair here….if Tatis is then benched for the next 3 games as Jerry implies, then his logic makes sense (even though I would have benched evans if he wanted to play Tatis)

      • thedude says:

Why? Tatis is a BENCH player. Most of his time should be spent on the BENCH, if not in a retirement community.

What’s so wrong with a bench guy who is playing terribly sitting for a week?

        • methead says:

I didnt say I agree with his move. What I am saying, unlike previous times, there is logic here but only if he follows it.

By the way…90% of the lineup is bench guys. hahahaha

      • Mets5rocks says:

if Tatis sit out the next 3 games (barring injury) I’ll eat my hat! It ain’t happening, Tatis and his GBDP butt will start atleast one of those games I guarantee it! Besides at this point who cares if the next pitcher is a righty or a lefty? The lineup from last night WON and at this juncture that is all that matters!

  37. dykstraw says:

murphy may be nailing jerry’s wife, but only because jerry is nailing tatis

  38. Mets5rocks says:

    3 batters 3 hits………atta boy Livan!

  39. KD says:

Who doesn’t live a game that’s over before it begins? Looks like I’ll have to find something else to entertain myself with tonight. God this team angers me to no end.

  40. nyj0126 says:

Game over. The reason why it’s over before it starts is because this team doesn’t know how to fight. They’re cowards. It doesn’t matter who’s worn the uniform the last few years. When their back is up against a wall when they need to play well, they rarely respond. Even if they come back, it’s hard trusting Livan. He’s reverting back. He’s not going to be what he was in April or May. It’s hard to expect that though.

    • kd bart says:

Ah, yes. The “This team has no heart” argument. Does this old chestnut ever go out of fashion with some fans?

      • nyj0126 says:

No. Not until they see results. I really don’t care what you want to call it. Heart, grit, what ever. Winning is all I’m concerned about. Even with all the injrueis, losing 9 of 12 is unacceptable.

        • kd bart says:

So in your book, it ls a complete lack of heart and not a lack of overall talent due to injuries that is the cause of thei losing? That if he played with a little more heart and courage, Alex Cora could turn himself into a power hitting shortstop.

          • Lorenzo23 says:

Its not lack of heart… It is lack of talent and two guys that would have made all the difference if they were signed over the off season just drove in 5 rbi’s against us.

  41. nyj0126 says:

Jerry’s just a stupid dude. We can’t do anything about it. Just don’t expect anything.

  42. nyj0126 says:

I’m suprised they were even able to take one game in this series. Especially with out of who else – Oliver Perez.

  43. nyj0126 says:

Well at least the Reds are beating the Phillies 2-0 and got runner on 3rd with no one out

  44. Nate W. says:

    The wonders of resumed games…

Joel Hanranah won his first game for the Nats a couple weeks after being traded to the Pirates when the Nats scored right away in an extra inning game being resumed from May.

  45. nyj0126 says:

home run anywhere else. many jerry will blow wilpon to move it up for his buddy

  46. KD says:

I was expecting a Tatis double play. The fact that he hit a non-Citi-home run shows that they can get to Wolf tonight. Though they’ve already gotten to Livan. So it’s gonna be one of those games that teases a possible come back and then lets you down in the end.

    • Lorenzo23 says:

ummm I’m pretty sure a routine pop up to left center going 350 feet doesnt go out in any other stadium.

      • KD says:

(Ummm….) The ball dies in that part of the stadium. None-the-less, Tatis got some good wood on that, and my point was they were connecting against Wolfe well.

But would it go out in other stadiums?

        Maybe but good chance not.

        • Lorenzo23 says:

KD I was being sarcastic…. Didnt mean to come off as a d*ck…. ooopppsss

          • KD says:

Well you were right. I probably wouldn’t go out in many parks. Pushed Manny back, but I don’t know the exact ball park dimensions compared to others except for the fact deep straight away earned the tern deep. Either way, one out from Tatis is better than his usual 2.

  47. nyj0126 says:

It could be one of those kinds of games if Livan settles down, they field adequately and they put runners on base. They should test Martin’s arm too.

  48. Mets5rocks says:

    Here we go again! LGM!

  49. nyj0126 says:

    Good job

  50. nyj0126 says:

Look at that. All with 2 outs. The Mets had an opportunity with 1st and 2nd two outs last inning but couldn’t cash in. This sucks

  51. KD says:

This really is the worst time for the real Livan to resurface.

  52. Mets5rocks says:

So let me get this straight, Livan sits there and nibbles on the corner to the point he walks Eitheir, then throws a meatball dead central to one of the hottest hitters in the league? Am I missing something?

  53. nyj0126 says:

It wouldn’t suprise me by the time Maine’s able to return Neive stays in the rotation and Livan either goes to the bullpen, traded or designated for assignment.

  54. Lorenzo23 says:

hmmmmmm making a mega deal for Rios AND Halladay is looking better and better by the day..

Can someone please remind me the last time we won a series besides the St. Louis series???? Was it in May or early June??? I’m being serious I dont remember

    • Mets5rocks says:

I’m sorry I’m going to have to consult with Elias! lol IDK either!

      • Lorenzo23 says:

Hey Omar – How many rbi’s do both Manny and Orlando Hudson have tonight???? 5???? Oh ok just checkin…. Another brilliant off season by the Metropolitans lol…

We fix the bullpen and now we cant score runs so KROd pitches once a week if we are lucky… LOL… cant make this stuff up

  55. Lorenzo23 says:

WOW The last series we won besides the lucky one vs the Cardinals was June 5th vs. the Nationals…

Halladay + Rios probably equals a couple of winning series LOL Anyone disagree???

    • Mets5rocks says:

Sure, you might end up with another win or two, if not for the multiple error games, missed bases, missed pop-flys base running snafoos and the list goes on and on and on!

    • KD says:

I don’t know how we beat the Cards like we did. It seems impossible thinking back on it.

At this point, this team is so defunct that adding a couple players won’t change the team mentality. Any move that’s made this year has to have future seasons in mind.

      • Lorenzo23 says:

Rios and Halladay definitely has the present and future in mind. Wilpons probably wouldnt pay thats the problem.

        • KD says:

We’d have Halladay this year and next. He’s a good pitcher but I wouldn’t want them to give up too much just for really one season (since this season is tanking.) A contract extension would be a must.

          • Lorenzo23 says:

Ofcourse we would definitely need to give him an extension …

My point is if we sign him to an extension and we can have a young outfielder, good hitter, and a lot of upside.. Both guys are proven…Than who cares if you give up prospects???? Right?

            • KD says:

I never was against Rios/halladay. Obviously I’d have to see how much we were giving up. Some prospects, OK… depending on which ones.

If it were to deplete our farm system further, it would have to be a move that would make me think “OK, we can go all the way with this team. It’s possible.” If the season ends the way the Mets are going now, I think some heads are gonna roll in the off season. And then who knows if we’ll have a team the can win even with those guys.

If we can get a fair price for those two, great. Pull the trigger. It just has to be the kind of price that’s for the future and not the type of deal that’s used on a loner player that is thought could be what gets them “over the hump.”

I’m not in disagreement with what you’re saying. I’ve just been weary for along while (probably dates back to that damned Kazmir trade) about giving up too much in trades.

              • Lorenzo23 says:

Please dont compare the Kazmir trade to anything. That was one of the all time worse trades in baseball history… The Mets traded at 1st round draft pick, a left who throws 96 mph for a #4 starter… In this case we would be getting the best pitcher in baseball (besides Santana) and a very solid outfielder..

                Big difference

                • KD says:

Ah, I didn’t compare anything to the Kazmir trade. Never would. I said my hesitance goes back to the Kazmir trade — that ever since that I’ve been weary on every trade the Mets made (except for Santana.) Believe me, I realize there’s a difference.

Tatis up witha man on! NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  57. wright5murph28 says:

chip away…wolf doesnt seem to have great stuff tonight…keep chipping away and this game aint over…church got his job done…but really needed santos to get a hit there…

  58. KD says:

Ugh. And a blown call makes it even worse. I swear this team must have collectively clubbed some baby seals in a past life because their karma is completed f’ed up.

  59. wright5murph28 says:

well the real livan is showing himself…

  60. Mets5rocks says:

Bartender! Make it a double! UGH!

  61. Mets5rocks says:

OUr big RH power bat ! Ladies and Gentlemen ;……..Argenis REyes!

    • Lorenzo23 says:

I know we dont need a bat when we have him! What was I thinking???? We can just use A Reyes until everyone comes back in the middle of August… No problem!

  62. dave27 says:

I hope everyone is pleased with all of the time they wasted this afternoon whining about Daniel Murphy. Doesn’t matter a whole lot when your starter pitches to a WHIP over 3 does it?

    • Mets5rocks says:

Nope, but then again what does that have to do with Daniel Murphy!

    • Lorenzo23 says:

You mean Livan wasn’t going to pitch like an ace all season????

      • thedude says:

You’re right Murphy wouldn’t have made a difference, but that doesn’t excuse Jerry’s managerial incompetence.

Just like Adam Dunn wouldn’t put this team over the top with all the injuries, that doesn’t mean it was a mistake for Omar to pass on him in the offseason.

Those decisions are just reflective of the bigger problem with the team’s management

  63. kd bart says:

15 earned runs in his last 7 innings. Way to pitch, Livan. Way to give your team a chance.

  64. jimyager says:

GAME OVER< Go home, This team cant play with the big dogs, we stink.

  65. thedude says:

And Livan joins the ranks of Tatis, Santos, etc of bad-to-mediocre players that have come back to Earth. Expect Jerry to notice this sometime in June 2010.

Livan, you gave us a few good months. More than anyone could have asked for. But it is time to go.

  66. fortleemets says:

How long before Omar Minaya is fired?

    • Mets5rocks says:

2014, it’s going to be awhile! He’ll get a pass under the “all the injuries” umbrella! So strap yourself in for atleast one more season! lol…..WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHAAAAAAA!

  67. Mets5rocks says:

AH YES REDDING IN HIS USUAL FORM I SEE!

  68. Lorenzo23 says:

Does anyone know that song “Time to say Goodbye” by Andrea Boccelli?????

    It’s almost that time…

  69. wright5murph28 says:

wow…this is one of those losses that u can do nothing but forget about….absolutely nothing went right

  70. fortleemets says:

Lets all get one thing straight…Omar will of course pretend as though they would be in first place had the Mets not encountered all of these errors. Guess what — given the consistent 5,6,7, 11 runs that the mets pitching staff have been giving up — they would still be losing these games. Omar has no idea how to put a team together and I truthfully can’t think of one good move that he has made (signings don’t count — I could have signed Johan Santana). OMAR MUST BE FIRED.

  71. Mets5rocks says:

Well, it’s over, now maybe the pain will stop! lol
