If Delgado shows no affects from the surgery and is productive after returning, I have no problem bringing him back. Time and again we have seen that his bat has been critical to the lineup...look back to 2005, 2007, and first half 2008 compared to when Carlos is in the lineup. Given that there really aren't any impact first baseman on the market, letting Delgado go will create a big hole in the lineup. I've been thinking lately that it may not be a bad play bringing him back. If he is productive, and there are no better options, then bring him in.

the only similarities i see between jacobs and murphy is that they are both white 1bmen for the mets who started at other positions.

jacobs is a power or nothing hitter, who was adiquate on d.

murph is a contact hitter, who was a better prospect his whole time in the minors who has played a very impressive 1b.

plus, jacobs has been playing well this year.

i think murph has some if not more upside then most of the mets on the team right now.

I see Murphy becoming a Mike Jacobs type of 1st baseman. If they can trade him as part of a package for some offensive pop and/or quality pitching, I'd have no problem with that.

I'd much rather they go after someone like Adam LaRoche. Delgado has DH written all over him.

0% chance I want delgado back next season.

less then 0%.

I also am not looking forward to him coming back this season. I like murph at 1st, and would rather him get the time in this season. So we dont have to sign anyone and can just give it to him.

reyes, maine, beltran, putz and wagner are all players I want back. As far as I am concerned delgado can stay on the DL the rest of the season. I will never wish ill will on a guy, but it wouldnt bother me to hear he has had a setback.

In my opinion it is to early to tell. If Delgado comes back and has a second half of the season like last year than I wouldnt mind bringing him back on a year to year basis considering the lack of 1st baseman on the free agent market. ESPECIALLY if David Murphy is my only option. There is NO WAY I go into next season, like this season, with a guy at a main position who the organization "Thinks" can handle playing everyday.

Exactly, the only reason to keep Delgado is if we don't have question marks elsewhere. I can make due with Frenchie-Beltran-???, Wright-Reyes-Hudson-Delgado and osmeone decent at catch.

Still though, it depends what money Delgado would cost...

I think alot depends on A) His production in the second half and B) Whether or not we can somehow get a solid bat somewhere else on the field so we don't look lika AAA club if he gets hurt. As much as I've been pleased wih what Castillo has given us at second all things considered, I think now that he's healthy I think we should visit moving him for maybe a Freddy Sanchez kind of guy, I know he makes some green, but the guy puts up numbers plain and simple and he's younger and we need another guy in the lineup capable of generating multiple doubles. Thats part of our problem offensively, nowhere near enough extra base hits.

And I agree, it would depend on the opther 24 players on the roster and their ages. If we are depending on Delgado, Castillo, and Franceour for production and no decnet catcher, I dont; like that at all

If Delgado has a goof fianl 50 games, with ther right deal I would gladly take him back. With a healthy hip and wrist, he shoudl have a couple fo decent years left and there is not much else out there. It would have to be the right deal and we would have to have a plan B that made sense.
