Update, 9:41 am by Michael Baron:
The Phillies will place Pedro Martinez on the 15-day disabled list with a mild shoulder strain.
…I wonder if he will be any impact at all for the Phillies after seeing this…
Original Post:
In an article for MLB.com, Todd Zolecki writes that Pedro Martinez has officially signed with the Philadelphia Phillies after passing a physical earlier today.
The one-year deal is reportedly worth $1 million, plus $1.5 million in incentives.

Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Pedro Martinez has passed his physical with the Phillies and a press conference to announce the deal is expected to be held tomorrow.
…I love Pedro, but this is the last team I wanted him to join…

In 2009, they’ve pulled 25 percent, hit 56 percent to the middle and 19 percent to the opposite field.
In 2008, David Wright pulled 29 percent, hit 55 percent up the middle and 16 percent to the opposite field. In 2009, he’s pulled 26 percent, hit 48 percent up the middle and 26 percent to the opposite field.
Wright and others have suggested the team has adjusted its approach to cater to Citi Field. I took stabs at interpreting the data and what it means at SNY.tv today, but be warned: I drew very few meaningful conclusions.

In a report by Mark Hermann from Newsday, there will be some changes made to Citi Field that will be performed after the All-Star Break.
Hermann says that the Mets have received permission from Major League Baseball to show live action on it’s video boards as soon as the ball is put in play.
In addition, there will be a bigger celebration of the team’s history displayed throughout Citi Field but there will be no changes to the field configuration.
…the key for me this season is for the park to have more identity which it appears the team is addressing…whether it had to do with them not having enough time to complete the stadium the way they had planned or it was a miscalculation, I am happy that changes are coming and I am looking forward to what will be done…
…as far as off-season changes are concerned I would like to see the height of the walls lowered in left field and to bring the Mo’ Zone in to eliminate that cavern in right field…keeping it a pitchers park but making it a little easier to get one out…
For more on these changes, check out Hermann’s article in Newsday.
Adam Rubin of The Daily News is reporting that the Mets prefer that Johan Santana does not pitch in tonight’s All-Star Game in St. Louis.
Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen has asked Santana to “be careful”.
Rich Dubee, the Phillies pitching coach, told Rubin:
“If we can stay away from him, we’ll try to, unless we get into a bind. “Unless it gets into extra innings and stuff and we have to use him, we’re going to try to stay away from him.”
Santana threw 114 pitches in his win over the Reds this past Saturday, and he is slated to pitch this Saturday in Atlanta.
…as happy as I am that Santana is an All-Star, there should be enough pitching on the NL roster to avoid him, even though he is arguably the best they have…
