I agree, after the way Castillo has come back the Mets have far greater problems to deal with than what to do about second base. Granted he certainly doesn't have the pop the O Hudson has, but Hudson does not have the kind of pop that it makes enough sense to pay part Castillo's salary on another team (which is likely what it would take to trade him to get atleast equal value for Castillo) The Mets are better off concentrating on Replacing Delgado's bat somewhere in the lineup and you certainly aren't going to approach that production at the second base position unless the Mets could somehow fleece Florida out of Dan Ugla and even that doesn't totally replace Delgado's production , but it's a heck of a nice start! .

Very, very well said. I understand LRB's frustration, but you summed it up perfectly, Patrick.

My impression is Rubin was talking about those lender trades that are just supposed to help out for a season. I think trades can him, but trading just for this year isn't the wisest. Trading for this year and beyond, I'm all for. I think that's what he's talking about.

I'm not completely convince we're out, but each loss I become a bit more convinced. Trade dead line is a ways away. It'll be easier to gauge then

I do agree that there's not much we can trade for hot prospects because I don't think we should trade any of the core and any lender player I'd think about (Delgado maybe) is hurt.

where you actually watching the Mets when Valentine was the manager? I am a huge fan of bobby valentine but he had run ins EVERY YEAR with players first it was Pete Harnisch, then Todd Hundley, then it was John Franco, then Dennis Cook, then Rickey Henderson, then Brian McCrae on and on and on.

It is amazing how time just allows people to dismiss reality.

The sad thing about Castillo is that for the most part he has come back pretty strong and has not been our problem this year.

He has a good avg and a very good OB%.
I know the zero HR's and 18 rbi's, but if we had some pop from other spots like we should we could live with that.

Don't get me wrong, if we could upgrade at 2nd base I would do it in a minute. I just don't
think Luis is our biggest problem right now.
His defense has been a lot better too this year.

You mean it will be just like how 90% of our games are lost now! lol Look I like Bobby V, but even he couldn't field a consistently winning team with 3 different platoons in the field. WIth Pagan back and the arrival of an everday RF things should and will get more consistent, just because we lost ine game doesn't mean the sky is falling. Considering a week ago if the Mets were down by two runs they would pretty much fold the tent untill the next day, that didn't happen last night, nor did it happen the 2 games prior to that, this offense will get better now that Jerry is rolling out a consistent lineup. NOw if we could the bullpen to cooperate it would be helpful.

Absolutely not! No more platoons at 1B! That's part of the reason we are in this mess to start with!

Than he should be fired too. I know he does have a lot of influence on this team. He shouldn't be here anymore. When I say I want change, that means clean house to everyone who's not on the roster. In '99, they did that for practically everyone except for Bobby V and Steve Phillips. Look at the results? I understand it may be too late this season, but there's no reason to start next season on the wrong foot.

I definitely agree with that. Unlike Jerry, he won't bad mouth his players nor be outmanaged. Unlike Willie, he won't be a deadhead and would have his players respect. The more the way this year looks, this season is damaged by injuries. It happens.

You're not going to get much back via trade in August though. The Mets are stubborn - '02 (ex. Bay for Steve Reed) & '04 (ex. Kazmir for Zambrano). They need to suck up their pride, see how these next two weeks play out and if it's not good, trade Sheff to an AL team, Livan (if he still has any value) and Luis Castillo (what better time will he have value?).

If you don't get rid of Tony B. you don't solve the underlying problem. You can change Managers, Gm's, scouts, Doctors, training staffs............change who ever you want, but if you don't keep Tony B form undermining the GM and the manager, failure will happen again, and again, and again! That man needs to go!
