Gary Sheffield left last night’s game due to an apparent injury to his hamstring.
However, it was later reported that Sheffield had a cramp in his leg and it is not expected to be serious.
…finally, an injury that isn’t bad, but I guess you never know anymore…
Meanwhile, Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post is reporting that JJ Putz played catch yesterday for the first time since elbow surgery.
Also, Jose Reyes apparently did not want to run in Port St. Lucie yesterday after pointing to his hamstring, but the Mets do not feel it was a setback as the plan was to make it more of a lighter day.
…of course…

Ain’t that wonderful about Reyes! Now, the Red Sox won’t want to go anywhere near him in the offseason.
I would say be sellers but who do we sell? Guys like Santos and Cora are our biggest trading chips. No one is touching Perez or Castillo. Sheffield might be someone a contender would want, considering the Tigers are paying almost his entire salary but not if this injury is serious. We might be able to get rid of relievers like Feliciano or Green.
Do people think we should pick up Putz’s option this offseason then try to trade him? People always want closers. I also think it is time to break up the core…shipping out Reyes or Beltran. It will take a year or two of rebuilding to fix these glaring weaknesses and having Omar pick up just one big name free agent won’t work anymore.
The light at the end of the tunnel? If we continue to fall far and fast, we will be in the running for Bryce Harper in the draft next spring.
Julio Lugo was put on waivers by Boston. If they’ll pick up most of his contract, it would be nice to be able to place someone other than Cora at SS.
Believe it or not (Per Adam Rubin) Julio Lugo is already working out at the Mets sports complex in the DR.
What’s the plan OMAHHH?
There’s a plan? lol I hear they are about to release Redding….that’s a start right! lol
That’d definitely be a start. He’s a waste.
Meanwhile Darren O’Day has 29 Ks in 29 innings with a 1.86 ERA and 0.93 WHIP for Texas. Good thing we released him.
UGH, another in a long line of not so stellar decisions by the Met’s FO!
Gimme a break. The guy wasnt pitching at the time and they had to make the call. How about giving the Mets credit for taking him in the rule 5 draft in the 1st place?
Bunch of hindsight whiners. LOL
why should we give them credit? why take the guy and not use him? this is actually the second time in 2 years they took a reliever in the rule 5 and didnt keep him and he went on to being effective on another team. Give them credit? for what? wasting a potentially good rule 5 pick? The mets think you just build a team by signing free agents, you draft, sign, trade, pick a couple gems in rule 5 thats how you build a team. Look down I-95 at the phillies…free agents- ibanez, feliz trade-lidge, draft- howard, utley, rollins, hamels, rule 5- victorino….THAT is how you build a team and until this FO figures that out they dont deserve credit for anything.
just to be clear Im not trying to be rude to you Im just so sick of this organization and needed to vent.
I’m not a hindsight whiner. I didn’t understand why they released him when they did (since he hadn’t surrendered an earned run), and I don’t understand why they released him now. They dropped him to promote Nelson Figueroa for one start, then sent Figgy back down (through waivers, I might add). It’s poor roster management.
Why on earth would I give the team credit for finding a good player, and then thinking so little of him that they released him? This makes sense in your brain-hole, methead?
Why do we even need injury reports anymore, the seaosn is over for our Metsies, lets get it together for 2010 and make sure we build a winner.
Translation: Gary Sheffield will receive season ending surgery on a torn hamstring. So much for selling the only piece that may bring back something more than a bill for a plane ticket.
LOL. wouldnt be surprising. hahahaha.
Whatever..I thought we would make a run in the 2nd half but none of our core players are coming back for at least 3 weeks. Thats going to be too late. And no trade is going to help us, so please stop with the whining for a trade (unless they get a player like Carlos Lee)
I hate to say this, but put a fork in this team. I hope I am wrong just like I was wrong when I wanted Delgado released last year before he was unstoppable. Something tells me….I am right this time. hahahaha
Look on the bright side guys and girls, we will have plenty of money coming off the books this year (delgado, wagner alone are about $30 mill), and we will probably have a low enough draft pick so that we wont lose it upon signing free agents. The bad news is that Omar will probably still be here spending that money on guys like redding, castillo, tatis and drafting 5th round talent with those picks.
