Injury: Wright OK after Hard Slide

by Michael Baron on July 19th, 2009 at 8:49 am

In the fifth inning with two men on base, Braves starter Kenshin Kawakami dropped a sacrifice bunt down which Johan Santana fielded and threw to third to get the lead runner.

He made a perfect throw with plenty of time, but Matt Diaz slid hard into third base, and David Wright twisted his ankle on the play in what looked like a serious injury.

However, after trainer Ray Ramirez and Jerry Manuel came out, Wright stayed in the game after declaring himself to be ok.

Wright reassured his was ok after stealing second base in the eighth inning.

After the game, Wright told reporters:

“I just rolled my ankle a little bit…A good, hard, clean play and we move on.”
