    over/under on bunt attempts: 3.5

    • Razor Shines says:

I wonder if Jerry just broke the record for sac bunting for the first out of the game three games in a row?

    Flashback to 1979……

    • LindseyRalphBob says:

This lineup has a total of 22 Home Runs this year. I have never seen anyhting like it. At least the 1979 team had John Stearns and Steve Henderson.

  3. Jolting Joe says:

Yawn. Does anyone really care anymore?

I do, they are the team I grew up rooting for, and am not going to quit on them just because they have had a bad run…

If that was the case I would have become a Yankees fan decades ago.

I’ve bben there for them when they stunk and when they were the lords of baseball…

      So, yes I care….

  4. dave27 says:

We’re playing the Nationals for 3 days, and tonight is the only night I’m giving us the slight pitching edge…and the way we typically hit guys making their ML debut I should probably rethink that as well.

  5. dave27 says:

Can anyone believe this team went into Philadelphia a week before the break 1 game out of first?

At least we don’t have to hear “and after all of that, we’re still only 1 game out!”

  6. wright5murph28 says:

Well see the thing is, the phillies are playing out of this world right now..and the mets not so much…thats why this downfall is even worse…but does anyone expect the phils to play this lights out over the rest of the 2nd half? no they wont, they literally cant lose now..and the game they were probably going to lose got post poned due to rain a couple days ago….if the mets were to somehow sweep the nats and the phils lose 2 of 3 to the cubs or even get swept as the cubs have picked it up lately….the mets could gain 3 or 4 games in the standings over the next 7 with them facing the nats/astros and phils playing cubs/padres..

Point is…this stretch is worse because the phils literally cant lose and thats not gunna continue that way…i mean will the season still be over if the mets gain 2 or 3…or even 4 games in the standings this week? Why am i that optimistic…i dont know maybe because we are at the first half equivalent of april 15 and look how much happened between beginning of april up until last week….

Its getting old and meaningless seeing people every day after every loss say “seasons over blah blah” Like what is the point…if the mets finally put together some offense and beat up on the nats and the phils struggle vs the all of a sudden playing better cubs…is the season still gunna be over or is everyone going to start saying how if they hang around long enough again..maybe they make a run……point in all this being stop saying after every loss seasons over…its pointless..people were jumping off bridges this morning/yesterday and if the mets take care of business with the nats and phils finally lose some games to the cubs…mets are in alot better position just 2 or 3 days later then they were yesterday…

    • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

All this is true. However, I used to say this last year and in 2007 when the Mets were collapsing. “Well, the Phillies are so hot right now and the Mets are not, and the Phils can’t possibly continue being this hot.” That didn’t work out so well. The current group of players are not capable of generating enough offense. That’s the bottom line. David Wright is capable of getting hot, but all he does nowadays is hit singles. Not good enough.

      • wlaadair says:

So the double he hit Friday doesn’t count because they lost 11-0?

        • Chan Ho Parking Lot says:

The point is he is not good enough to carry the team by himself if he is not hitting home runs. He is simply not doing enough damage.

          • methead says:

Wright has been clutch this year. Had this team been healthy all year we would be talking how Wright is going to drive in 120 runs and bat 320 while scoring 100 runs.

You are right, he has and never will be a player that carries a team. There arent that many guys out there who that. I just think we should leave him alone. He is the one bright spot in that lineup.

    • starz31 says:

this is not a discussion about whether or not DWright is capable at carrying us a team…whatever

regarding Wright5murph’s post…Totally agree. I know we suck now…and will continue to do so for some time, but I will still be following this team because that just what I do. I’m addicted… the mets are helluva drug

  7. Horseman says:

Newsflash, David Wright is the best player on the mets. Period. I don’t want to read, he is unclutch and all this other bs. Of all the “core” he is the only one playing. He could say he’s hurt given that slide the other night and call it a season. But does he? No. He is a real met. Not like the others who are on the DL. As Wagner would say, Fn Shocker!!!

    • starz31 says:

lol..when the team’s not going well, lets pick the only good player we have (offensively) left and criticize him for not putting the team on his back PLUS not being able to heal Reyes in meer minutes with a drop of his own golden blood. I cant believe he’s failed us! trade him while he’s still healthy!!

      • Razor Shines says:

As I’ve said on here many times, it will be five years or so down the line when Met fans start to appreciate what David Wright is and stop wanting him to be something he is not.

    • Patrick says:

oh please, don’t feed the horse crap that the other players are bagging it to try and prop up Pony Boy as the greatest Met since sliced crap.

Other stars manage to do just fine without a huge cast around them.

      • Horseman says:

And Wright is doing just fine hitting behind Murphy and having the ex brave behind him. Trade Reyes in the offseason.

    • dave27 says:

Actually Beltran is the best player on the Mets and his injury is what sent them spiraling over the edge…but I otherwise agree on the Wright-bashing. He’s in a no-win situation…he’s being pitched around now, and the minute he gets hot it’ll get that much worse.

  8. One Day This Team Will Kill Me says:

I dont want to nitpick here, but Nieve hurt himself in the 2nd inning last night and the Mets couldnt figure out how to get a bench player here before game time tonight?

Like I said its nitpicking, but it just helps the argument that this organization doesnt do anything right

    • starz31 says:

who knows when they made the decision vs when they told the media…but I agree with your point. If they did wait, then this is just plain foolish, and sadly, i wouldnt be surprised.

    • Mets5rocks says:

yeah , it’s not like the Mets didn’t know Nieve was going to be placed on the DL! I knew just by looking at the way went down that he was going on the DL! Seems like that phone call could have been made last night!

  9. starz31 says:

more Versatile…lol…I could have told you that 3 months ago.

  10. When all the injured players come back, the Bisons are going to be a juggernaut!

  11. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

Tell Sheff to drink the p90X recovery drink!

Its got great stuff in it. He will feel like a million in no time.

  12. NYCESQ says:

    Nieve has a torn quad.

    Poor guy.

  13. BullpenHelp says:

    Jon Heyman just twittered:

“minaya, manuel have been told by mets boss jeff wilpon they wont be fired over this painful season.”

So let’s put that to bed. It’s Minaya and Manuel again in 2010!
