Anthony McCarron, in today’s Daily News, is reporting that Jose Reyes will play in a simulated game today in Port St. Lucie.
Reyes, who has been frustrated that he has been unable to play, told McCarron:
“It’s going to be hard for me to wait until I’m 100 percent… Maybe that doesn’t happen this year. After rest and the offseason, maybe it’ll be 100 percent next year. If I feel like I’m 80 percent and able to go, I’m going to play because I don’t know if 100 percent is going to be there this year. I might have to learn to play at 80 percent.”
…given the Mets position in the standings, if he is not 100 percent, i can’t say that i agree he should come back and risk further injury that could sideline him into next season…
…however, there is still a lot of baseball left in 2009 and if the Phillies slip and the Mets can gain some ground in the coming weeks in the division and Wild Card, it might make sense to bring him back…

Yea, definitely don’t bring him back unless he is 100%. No reason at this point in the season. For some reason I get the feeling that the Mets are hiding the fact that Jose needs surgery and they are simply trying to rehab him enough to play now and then get surgery in the offseason.
6 games behind the WC is not a large deficit remember we blew a 7 game lead in 2 weeks before. I would be cautious with Reyes and Beltran as you hate to lose them for next year just to make a last ditch run at this year. But if Reyes can be effective at less than 100% and he cannot do anything to the injury that would require missing next year I would say let him try if he wants. Sometimes finishing off the tear is better than trying to heal the partial one.
stop it metsfan, 6 games might as well be 60 games for this team…reyes needs to get surgery (if that will make him 100%) and come back next year.
if they can win a series against the Nats its over.
please stop believing that this team can get on a run, enough with the nonsene
if they “can’t win a series…”
it certainly wont be on a run without Beltran, Reyes and Delgado that much is true.
There is zero value in a player like Reyes playing at 80%. Shut him down.
You are 100% realistic. This season is over as far as competing for a playoff spot. Anyone who can’t see this or accept it is in total denial. Have they even looked what we are putting on the field these days?
We are as far from being a playoff team as the Nationals are in our current state; in fact the Nationals have a measurably better hitting team than us.
And better starting pitching, in fact. Sad, isn’t it?
