In an article on ESPN.com, Jayson Stark is reporting that the Phillies latest offer of J.A. Happ, Michael Taylor, Carlos Carrasco and Jason Donald for Roy Halladay has been rejected by the Blue Jays.
At one point, Taylor, Carrasco and Donald were all on Philadelphia’s list of “untouchables”, none the less the Blue Jays had informed the Phillies that this proposal was “not going to work”.
Fore more details on this, check out Stark’s article.

The Least You Should Know:
Livan Hernandez was shaky early, allowing three runs in the first and it looked like the Mets were going down the familiar path of falling behind early, and going through the motions.
However, Hernandez settled in nicely and got through seven innings, and didn’t allow another run, struck out seven and walked just one.
Everyone in the starting lineup got atleast one hit, including Hernandez.
Other Observations and Notes:
The Mets won a series, and they won a series against a contender.
Luis Castillo is hitting .301 on the year as he went 7 for 12 against Houston this weekend.
I am hoping the offense has found it’s way after a very good weekend.
The Mets return home to play the Colorado Rockies tomorrow night, with Oliver Perez facing Ubaldo Jiminez.
Tonight at 6 pm, I will be a guest on The Happy Recap’s online radio show.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe believes the Indians rejected two offers from the Red Sox that could have swapped C Victor Martinez for either top pitching prospect Clay Buchholz, or Martinez for pitchers Michael Bowden and Justin Masterson and an outfield prospect.
…yikes… so, i’m thinking the Mets would need to start with Fernando Martinez, Robert Parnell and a pitching prospect, i’m guessing, and it doesn’t even read like that would be enough…
Cafardo says the Rays and Giants have interest in Martinez, as well.
…well, the Rays have a ton of young pitching, and i’d think the Giants must be offering LHP Jonathan Sanchez…
The Mets (45–51) take on the Astros (50–47) today at 2:05 pm in Housto, for the final game of a three-game series, with Livan Hernandez (6–5, 4.93 ERA) taking on Brian Moehler (7–5, 4.92 ERA).
Angel Pagan will bat leadoff today, followed in order by Luis Castillo, David Wright, Daniel Murphy at first, Jeff Francoeur in right, Cory Sullivan in left, Brian Schneider behind the plate and Alex Cora at shortstop.
…nice… short of schneider for santos, this is the same lineup as the day before… imagine that… this for the team who has used 70 different lineups through 96 games this season…
Hernandez has not faced Astros this season. He last defeated the Astros in May 2007, when he pitched a complete game. This year, he allowed 15 runs in two starts to begin July, but then rebounded to throw seven innings letting up two runs in a win against the Nationals earlier this week.
The Mets are 26–15 in games when they hit a home run, and 31–15 when they steal at least one base.
The Mets began the weekend having used 47 players this season, more than any other team except the Padres, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
In a report for the Star-Ledger, Brian Costa explains why the ‘constant roster changes have resulted in a clubhouse in which unfamiliar faces are the norm.’
Mike Silva writes on NY Baseball Digest that the honeymoon is over for Gary Sheffield and the Mets, adding, “I am surprised it took so long for it to happen.”
In a post to his blog for WFAN, broadcaster Wayne Hagin looks back at some first-hand stories with Rickey Henderson.
Lastly, in the Daily News, Adam Rubin is back with more dirt on Tony Bernazard, and more tales from the 80s.
The Mets announced John Maine will meet with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to get a second opinion on his injured right shoulder.
Maine complained of discomfort in his throwing shoulder followed a simulated game this week in St. Lucie.
He has been on the disabled list since June 7.

The Least you Should Know:
- Jeff Francoeur, David Wright and Omir Santos each hit home runs, while Jonathan Niese pitched seven impressive innings for the win.
- Luis Castillo, Daniel Murphy and Cory Sullivan also had RBI.
Etc., Misc., and other Observations:
- Niese walked two of his first four batters of the game, but escaped the first inning having allowed just one run. After that, he looked fantastic. What’s more, he looked very poised on the mound. He moved the ball up and down in the zone, was rocking that great 12–6 curve ball, and he had the Astros looking frustrated.
- “I just tried to go back to my Triple-A starts and remember what I did and how I had success there,” Niese said after the game.
- For all of my knocking of the Mets offense, they have 25 hits and 14 runs in the last two days.
- Francoeur is hitting .333 with a .340 OBP, two HR and 12 RBI in 11 games since joining the Mets.
- Angel Pagan continues to look like a potential starter, and, at worse, a true fourth outfielder for this club in the future.
- Despite hitting a home run on back-to-back, Jerry Manuel said Santos will not start on Sunday, in a day game following a night game.
- That was Wright’s first home run in July.
- “Hopefully, we can kind of get a winning streak together and play for something,” Francoeur said after the game.
- Hopefully, Jeff. Keep fighting, man.
- Hey, if the team that showed up tonight, the one getting two-out hits, playing sharp defense and pitching well, is the team you’ll be fighting with, I think you have a shot to make things interesting.
The Mets concluded their three-game series with the Astros, as well as a 10-game road trip, on Sunday at 2:05 pm, with Livan Hernandez (6–5, 4.93 ERA) taking on Brian Moehler (7–5, 4.92 ERA).
