The Least You Should Know:

Misc., Etc., and Other Observations:

  • Everybody clap yo hands… and point them to the sky, who was called out of the dugout for a smile-inducing curtain call.  This was great to see.  The crowd was excited, the team was pumped, smiling, and, for the first time in a while, looking like they were having fun… and winning.
  • The Mets have scored 29 runs in four games.  Incredible.
  • Luis Castillo had two more hits, and two runs scored, and is now batting .305.  He has nine hits in his last four games, during which the Mets have scored 29 runs, 11 of which he had a hand in.  I’m happy for Luis.  He shook off criticism, worked hard, and produced.  He dropped a devastating pop up, got mocked, but shook it off and, again, is producing.
  • I hate the off-field drama.  I really do.  So tonight’s game was a breath of fresh of air.  It was important.  End of story.  I was on the edge of my sofa as though it was September, because, when a team must go roughly 45–20, a game in July is like a playoff game.  I was pumped when Tatis hit the grand slam, I got giddy.  I will not lie, I started thinking of what could be… I’m a dreamer, what can I say.

The Mets play the Rockies again tomorrow at 7 pm in Citi Field, with Mike Pelfrey (7–6, 4.99 ERA) taking on Jason Marquis (12–6, 3.49 ERA).

Who were those guys? They actually resembled a baseball team. What I like is that they are scoring runs but are also finding ways to come back. They did it yesterday and today. 3 game streak. Go crazy folks, go crazy.

  3. Andrew says:

So, does this mean we’re gonna have a Rockies-esque winning streak?

Because that would be THE BOMB.

    I’d take 4 in a row…

I may be in the minority (and I know Matt disagrees with me since he did not respond to my email), but I think F-Core has a lot to do with the resurgence of this team.

I love F-Core’s personality and baseball approach. Sure he still has not walks (other than the intentional walk this evening) and he is a free swinger, but right now on the field he is plugging the power gap that has been plaguing this team.

I think F-Core’s personality and approach is contageous. I think it has loosened up the personality of this team allowing it to play. It had gotten so bad that even David Wright was stifled. I think F-Core has loosened up everyone, even David Wright.

Sure Omar called this a change in venue trade. But give Omar credit here. This has turned out to be a great trade, at least so far. And yes, F-Core is only 25. Could F-Core displace DWright as the face of the team, No, I am not saying that.

I just think this team was mentally and physically defeated, and F-Core has been a key element to changing this.

Will it continue? I am not sure. I still think we are missing components. I just like what I see.

Even with today’s win it was nice that the media was able to speak to someone other than David. This will also help David.

I just echoed the same thing to someone else, kudos! I think lots of players made careers putting the ball in play like Dave Parker or Bobby Bonds. And he’s still young enough to learn to take walks, first though you have to fix the swing and they appear to be doing that. I just think if he shortened his swing a bit he could be a monster at the plate. We’ll see.

    • Andrew says:

I gotta agree with you. Sure seems like Frenchy infected the team with hitting,.

This series is a MUST WIN series for the METS. we can be sitting at 4.5GB by the end of this series!! Then we can talk about a WC. Omar can get a bat or arm and we may have a chance. This team has its destiny in its own hands. LETS GO METS !!!!

great win, and I’m totally psyched. Maybe all the off-field drama is a calculated move…aww, I can’t even say it with a straight face. What a train wreck. But still a great win. Finally, some exciting baseball!

    Couple things…

    1. Hearing Ojeda say “Good things to take from today was mets won and everyone kept there shirts on”…It woulda been absolutely hilarious if adam rubin took his shirt off and challenged omar to fight. Give him a little Tony B…

    2. Did anyone hear Wilpon during the 2nd omar press conference then in his own….first he had to correct omar because omar said “i do not regret” then jeff said no, not proper place and then omar said “i do regret” like does jeff need to talk for him…is he that dumb…
And lastly…how dumb/bad does omar look right now when jeff wilpon pretty much agreed 100% with everything adam rubin said…which makes omar look like the liar..

I have to say I really enjoyed that game today. Perez is still a joke, but that was a fun game to watch.

I never believe in that rah-rah nonsense about “grit” and “edge”, but even I have to admit the dugout had a different look to it tonight. I know that’s easy to say when they’re winning, but it felt different.

As for Francoeur, I’ve been pretty vocal against him, but I really like him. Not so much as a player (I think he’ll come back down to earth), but he seems like a great teammate. Good interview, funny guy, always moving in dugout. I’m rooting for him.

  9. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

momentum is as good as tomorrows starting pitcher. For the 58th time in his career Pelfrey will be met with a BIG start where he needs to deliver for the team. Lets see which Ollie I mean Pelf shows up.

Lets not forget the 2001 METS. Things went the same way for them, they made a good run late, but, came up short. The hammer will fall, these are the METS. If they can will sweep or win 3 I will start to beleive again.

  13. Andrew says:

Nobody seems to be complaining that Tatis came up with the potential to ground into a double play.
